Description
Aug. 3, 1965 T. o. MURRAY CORRUGATED WALL BOARD INVENTOR. 720/1743 Qfi/rray United States Patent 3,198,342 CORRUGATED WALL BOARD Thomas 0. Murray, 1127 N. State St., Chicago 10, Ill. Filed Get. 28, 1963, Ser. No. 319,12% 1 Claim. (Cl. 211-86) This invention relates to a corrugated wall board having improved facility for attachment of supporting hooks and more readily attachable to a wall or other surface without the need of intermediate attaching strips.
Among the objects of my invention is to provide a corrugated wall board, which because of openings in its bulges, provides greater space to the rear thereof for attachment of supporting hooks.
Another object of my invention is to provide a corrugated wall board adapted to be directly attached to a Wall or other object such as a stand, island or easel, with fastening means and without the need of intermediate attaching strips.
My invention also has such other objects, advantages and capabilities as will later more fully appear and which are inherently possessed by this invention.
While I have shown in the accompanying drawings a preferred embodiment of my invention, yet it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification and change without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, FIG. 1 is a face view of my corrugated wall board on a wall; FIG. 2 is an enlarged detailed sectional view on line 2-2 of FIG. 1; FIG. 3 is an enlarged detailed sectional view on line 3-3 of FIG. 1; FIGS. 4, 5, 6 and 7 are perspective views of my corrugated wall board on a display stand, circular island, easel and portable tool chest respectively; FIG. 8 is a face view of my corrugated wall board in transverse position; FIG. 9 is a top plan view, FIG. 10 a side elevational view, FIG. 11 a rear elevational view, and FIG. 12 a front elevational view of my hook.
The embodiment selected to illustrate my invention comprises a wall board 10 formed of a sheet of material having a plurality of corrugations 11 with alternating outwardly curved bulges or ridges 12 and inwardly curved grooves, hollows or depressions 13. My wall board 10 has a plurality of openings 14 which may be round holes, slits or other shaped openings. While these openings may be any place on my wall board, yet in my preferred embodiment I provide them in the center or outward extent of bulges 12.
My wall board is made of metal or plastic. In my preferred embodiment I use thin corrugated aluminum.
In another embodiment I use thin corrugated fiber glass.
My corrugated wall board 10 is directly attachable to the surface of a wall, by driving nails or screws through the wall board into the wall. I do not need any intermediate attaching strips as has been customary in attaching prior art wall boards, such as for example a wooden strip which is first attached to the wall, with the wall board then attached .to the wooden strip. I prefer to attach my wall board direct to the wall with nails or screws 20 extending through the grooves 13.
In the preferred form of my wall board the corrugations are so formed that the bulges 12 are substantially one quarter inch forward of the grooves 13.
My wall board 10 is also adapted to be cut to any size or shape and for direct attachment in a continuous strip to all four walls of a display stand as shown in FIG. 4, to the round walls of an island display as shown in FIG. 5, to the surface of an easel as shown in FIG. 6, and to a workmans portable tool chest as shown in FIG. 7.
While my wall board is usually attached to a wall or other object so that the corrugations extend in a longitudinal, or vertical direction, yet my wall board may be attached to a wall or other object so that the corrugations extend in a transverse direction as shown in FIG. 8.
While my openings 14 may receive any desired pegs or hooks for the support of desired objects, yet I have provided a preferred hook 115, preferably made of metal having an upper inwardly extending hook 16 to enter opening 14 and engage the wall board below the opening 14 for support of the same. My hook 15 has opposite slightly inwardly flared side wings 17 for engaging the outer walls of the bulge 12 adjacent opening 14, and a depending portion 18 with a bent up hook portion 19 at its lower end to receive and hold a desired object.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
A thin aluminum wall board comprising a single corrugated sheet with a plurality of alternating outwardly extending rounded ridges and inwardly extending rounded hollows and adapted to be cut to any size and shape to be fitted to a desired object, said. hollows having a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings therethrough to receive fastening means to attach the wall board direct to the desired object without the need of any intermediate attaching means, said ridges having a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings therethrough for the reception and holding of supporting hooks, said ridges providing greater space to the rear thereof for the accommodation of supporting hooks extending through the openings.
