Description

WALL. BRACKET Filed Dec. '7, 1960 IN V EN TOR.
United States Patent WALL BRACKET Alfonso Alvarez, 204 Bellevue Ave., Upper Montclair, NJ. Filed Dec. 7, 1960, Ser. No. 74,408 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-224) The present invention generally relates to a structural unit in the form of an assembly for supporting an article or device and connecting members together in many diversified relationships.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a wall bracket including a pair of detachably interconnected members having novel cooperating means for positioning and retaining the members in positive relation to each other.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a wall bracket capable of many uses such as, hanging pictures, mirrors or the like from the wall, supporting shelves mounted on a generally vertical wall, supporting partitions for removal, hanging cafeteria tables from walls, hanging chalkboards, tackboards, flags, map brackets, shelving, paper clips and the like.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a Wall bracket of the character described which is constructed of readily available material thus reducing the cost of manufacturing the item to an absolute minimum.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a clip incorporated into a variety of structures which is simple in construction, easy to use, effective for its particular purposes, and quite universal in use.
These, together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent, reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIGURE 1 is a front elevation of the structural unit of the present invention;
FIGURE 2 is a group perspective view of the invention illustrating the relationship between the supporting member and clips;
FIGURE 3 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 3--3 of FIG. 2;
FIGURE 4 is a transverse sectional view taken substantially upon a plane passing along section line 4-4 of FIG. 2;
FIGURE 5 is a transverse sectional view illustrating the structure of a flag holding clip construction; and
FIGURE 6 is a front view of the construction of the structure of FIG. 5 along reference line 66 of FIG. 5.
Referring now specifically to the drawings, the numeral 10 generally designates a channel-shaped supporting member or bracket for mounting on a companion surface such as a'wall or the like. The supporting clip is designated by reference numeral 12 and is detachably supported by the bracket 10.
The wall bracket 10 includes a vertical rear plate 14 having a plurality of openings 16 for receiving suitable fasteners. A bottom flange 18 is integral with flange 14 and disposed in right angle relation thereto. The bottom flange 18 is provided with a plurality of longitudinally spaced openings 20 therein. The openings 20 are rectangular in configuration and the side edges thereof are spaced from the side edges of the bottom flange 18.
Integral with the bottom flange 18 there is a front plate 22 disposed in parallel relation to the rear plate 14. The front plate 22 is approximately one-half of the height of the rear plate 14 thus defining an entrance throat or entrance area for the clip 12.
The clips 12 vary in construction but each form includes a vertical plate 24 for positioning between the plates 14 and 22. The lower edge of the plate 24 is provided with a depending lug 26 of less width than the plate itself, thus defining a pair of laterally extending shoulders 28. The lug 26 passes through one of the openings 20 and the shoulders 28 rest on the top surface of the bottom flange 18 thereby detachably supporting the clip 12 on the bracket 10.
As illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3, the upper edge of the plate 24 is provided with a laterally extending flange 30 for positioning over the upper edge of the front plate 22. Extending upwardly from the front edge of flange 30 there is a vertical attaching flange 32, having an aperture 34 therein for attachment of an article to be supported. The intermediate flange 30 has a width slightly greater than the distance from the forward edges of the openings in the bottom flange 18 to the outer face of the front plate 22 of the bracket.
In FIG. 4, the clip 12 includes a longer horizontal flange 36 for positioning over the top edge of the front plate 22 and a depending vertical plate 38 disposed alongside of the front plate 22. A horizontal flange 40 extends outwardly from the lower edge of the plate 38 for supporting an article. This form of thee invention is elongated and the lengths of the wall bracket and clip of the invention may vary although the bracket 10 is elongated for supporting a plurality of clips 12 or a variety of different clips.
The clip illustrated in FIGS. 5 and 6 includes a depending plate 42 extending below the bottom flange 18 of the wall bracket and terminating in a horizontal plate 44 and an upwardly extending flange 46. The flange 42 and plate 46 are provided with a pair of openings 48 and 50', respectively for receiving a flag staff 52, or similar rod. The openings 48 and 50 are arranged in staggered relation with the opening 50 at a higher level than the opening 48, thus supporting the staif or rod 52 in upwardly inclined position.
This clip will have many and varied uses such as to hang pictures, mirrors, display cabinet shelving, etc. to walls, self-supporting shelves, fireplace screens, window screens, educational maps, charts, visual educational materials, both on walls and ceilings, store displays, shelves in closets-adjustable, clothing hangers in family closets at various heights for grown-ups and children, and for hanging hats, shoes, ties, etc.
The uses and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent from the foregoing description. A single and economical structure has been provided as well as one which is adapted to many varied uses. It is apparent that many widely different embodiments of this invention may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and, therefore, it is not intended to be limited except as indicated in the appended claim.
I claim:
A wall bracket comprised by a rear plate having openings therein for the reception of fastening devices to secure the bracket to a wall, an integral flange on the bottom of the rear plate extending outwardly at right angles to the latter and having a series of rectangular openings along its longitudinal center line and a front plate integral with the bottom flange extending upwardly in parallel relation to the rear plate and to approximately half the height of the latter, and a clip comprised by a lower plate having shoulders in its side walls forming a central lug for reception in one of the rectangular openings in the bottom flange on the wall bracket, a right angle flange at approximately its mid-section and the length of the right angle flange being greater than the distance from the forward edges of the openings to the front plate, so that a portion of the right angle flange will be positioned above and closely adjacent to the top edge of the front plate of the Wall bracket and an upper plate integral With and at right angles to the right angle flange and disposed oppositely from the lower plate on the right angle flange for vertical alignment with the front plate of the Wall bracket when 5 the clip is in place on the latter.
