UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY A. TWEED, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
KNOB FOR STOVE-DOORS.
Application filed February 4. 181-2.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY A. TWEED, of the city of Brooklyn and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Knobs for Stove-Doors, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawlugs.
My invention is especially applicable to that class of knobs which are made of stamped metal and when completed are hollow. In knobs of this class the attaching-screw is held to the knob by means of a screw-thread cutin a body of metal, which is in some way attached to the knob. These knobs are generally circular in form, and it is consequently important to prevent the revolution of such metal within the knob.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a vertical section, and Fig. 2 an independent detailed view.
A and B represent the two parts of a knob. C, Fig. 2, is a circular plate of metal having a. screw-thread cut through it, with which thread the screw D is adapted to engage.
In process of formation the metal plate 0 is first dropped into the bottom of the cylinder, which is afterward to be shaped to the con- (No model.)
figuration shown at B, and is then so struck with a die as to force up the metal of the lower part or bottom of the cylinder into the indentations or grooves E, which have been previously formed by a die. The part B being spun in over 0 said plate is prevented from moving vertically by the inwardly-projecting portion of said part B, and is prevented from revolving by the metal of the part B entering within the grooves or indentations E. In this way a cheap and sure method is provided of 0 HENRY A. TWEED.
