Description

(No Model.)-
J. W. BAGHUS. WINDOW SCREEN. No. 319,168. Patented June 2, 1885.
Fly/j Fig Z.
UNITED STATES PATENT @rricn. I
JAMES WASHINGTON BAOHUS, OF NEW WINDSOR, ILLINOIS.
WINDOW-SCREEN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 319,168, dated June 2, 1885.
Application filed January 14, 1885.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved guide for guiding it and holding a window-screen at any desired elevation.
The invention consists in U-shaped guides provided with inwardlyprojecting tongues integral with the body of the guides, all as here inafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forininga part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts inall the figures.
Figure l is a face view of my improved window-screen and its attachment. 'Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional plan view of one side of the frame and of one guide. Fig. 4 is a side View of the guide and its slide.
The screenframe A is made of sheet metal doubled over to have a U shaped cross-section and adapted to receive the edges of the wirenetting B, upon which the frame is firmly clamped.
Indentations are to be made in the sides of the frame to prevent the netting slipping in the frame. A durable cement is placed in the bottom piece of the frame to prevent water entering the hollow in the said piece.
On the inner side of each upright of the window-frame a U-shaped sheetmetal upright or guide, G, is secured to the blind-stop in such a manner as to project over the side bars of the sash, and in said uprights the screen slides.
Tongues D are punched out of the front part (No model.)
of each guide 0 and project inward, the
tongues in the upper parts of the guides pro- 45 jecting upward and those in the lower parts projecting downward. The free ends of the spring-tongues D rest against the frame of the screen, and hold the same in place at any desired elevation, and at the same time permit of raising or lowering the frame very easily.
An opening, E, is formed in the outer part of the right-hand guide 0, which can be closed by a slide, F.
The left-hand edge of the screen is placed in the left-hand guide, and then the righthand edge of the bottom or of the top of the screen is passed down or up through the opening E, whereby the right -hand side of the screen is passed into the right-hand guide. Then the opening E is closed by means of the slide F.
The screen fits very close, does not occupy much space, and is not apt to rattle.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An improved guide for window-screens, consisting of a U-shaped strip having inwardly-projecting tongues, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. As an improved article of manufacture, the U-shaped guides (3 for window-screens, having the inwardly-projecting tongues D, the said tongues being integral with the body of the guide, as set forth.
3. The combination, with the U shaped guides 0, having tongues'D, and one guide having the opening E, of a window screen.
adapted to slide in the guides, and of the slide F, for closing the opening E, substantially as herein shown and described.
