Be it known that I, ELIAS OPPENHEIMER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Iniprovexnents in Stocking and Sleeve Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and' exact description. Y
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figui-el is a front elevation of one of my improved stocking and sleeve supporters shown opened. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same, taken through the line as an, Fig. l, and shown closed.
The object of this invention is to provide stocking,` and sleevesupporters simple in construction, and convenient and reliable in use.
The invention consists in a stocking and sleeve supporter constructed with a plate having a forwardly-projecting inwardly-inclined flange upon its curved lower end and two or more slots in its shank, a platejhaving an in- 1wardly-projecting outwardlyinclined flange upon its curved lower end, and a connectingpivot, whereby the said plates will .he heid from being drawn apart by the strain of the article being held, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claims.
Thesupporteris constructed with two plates, A B, connected bya pivot, O. The haseplate A. has a forwardly-projecting iiange, D, formed upo'nits lower end, which iiange is inclined inward, as shown in Fig. 2. The anged lowv er end ofthe plate A. is curved upon the are of ka circle having its center at the pivot C. The shank of the plaie B is connected with the shank of the plate A by a rivet, C, which is riveted loosely, so as to serve as a pivot to the said plate B. The lower end ofthe plate B has a rearwardly-proj eoting dange, E, formed uponit, which ange is inclined outward, as shown in Fig. 2. The ilanged end of the plate B is curved upon the are of a circle having its center at the pivot and the said plate is made oi'vsuch a length that the ilange E will be parallel with the ange D, and at such a distance from it that the edge of a stocking or a fold of a sleeve can be inserted between the said fianges. inclined ilange D will support the ilange E against the strain of the article being held, so that the plate B cannot be forced-outward, and thus made to release the said article.
` The shank of the hase-plate A projects and has two or more transverse slots, F, formed in it to receive the strap G of the supporter, which is flexible and preferably elastic. In the arrangement shown in the drawings the strap G is passed forward-througlrthe second slot h and back through the first slot, and is held from slipping by the pressure oi' the said strap against the rear side of the end of the said shank. With this construction thelengtlr of the strapG can heeasily adjusted by swinging the shank of the plaie A forward, and drawing the said strap through the slots F in one or lthe other direction.
If greater security against slipping is required, the strap G can be passed forward through the first slot F, buck through lthe second slot, forward through the third slot, and back through the irst slot, or arranged in any other desired ina-nner.

A stocking and sleeve supporter constructed substantially as herein shown and described,
and consisting of the plate A, having'A a forwardly-projectinginwardly-incliued flange, D, upon its curved lower end, and two or more slots in its shank, the plate B, having a rearwardly-projecting outwardly-inclined flange, E, upon its curved lower end, and the connecting-pivot C, as set forth.
