NITE ra'rns PATENT OFFICE.
PETER PINKE, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y.
VAPOR BATH.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,669, dated May 12, 1885.
Application filed November 7, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PETER D. PINKE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor Baths, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to an improved apparatus for producing vapor baths of all kinds-such as hot-air, steam, medicated vapors, and other baths; and the invent-ion con sists of a vapor bath in which a perforated shell is attached to a Bunsen burner, the shell consisting of a fixed lower section attached to the shank of the burner, and of a detachable upper section.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a vertical central section, of my improved vaporbath.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A in the drawings represents a Bunsen burner of the usual approved construction, which is supplied with gas by a flexible tube from a gas-bracket. To the shank of the Bunsen burner A is attached the lower section of a perforated shell, B B, which is made of suitable sheet metal and of oval or other suitable shape. The shell extends above the enlarged head A of the Bunsen burner A, and is provided with rows or holes I) 1) below and above the head of the Bunsen burner A. The upper section, B, of the shell is fitted to a seat of the lower section, B, and provided with a handle, d, of wood or other suitable non-conductor of heat,'so as to be readily removed from the fixed lower half of the shell.
When the vapor bath is to be used, the burner is lighted and the apparatus then placed beneath the bathing-gown. The air drawn in through the openings a a at the lower part of the shell keeps up the combustion of the gas and air mixture at the circumference of the Bunsen burner, while the air drawn in through the openings at the middle part of the shell B 4 5 is heated up and emitted in a highly-heated state through the openings at the upper part of the shell, and thence supplied to and distributed around the body below the bathingown.
, When medicated baths are desired, the medicaments are placed on the head of the burner and vaporized; or they are dissolved in water and placed into a closed vessel, which is placed on the head of the Bunsen burner, said vessel having a perforated bulb-shaped head through which the steam escapes. 'When a simple steam or so-called Russian 7 bath is desired, the boiler G is filled with plain water only.
It will be seen that all kinds of vapor baths can thus be quickly produced by a simple and inexpensive apparatus, which being heated by gas heats up the air and vaporizes the water or medicaments quicker than when alcohol or other heating sources are obtained, by which annoying delays are engendered.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A vapor bath consisting of a Bunsen burner and a perforated shell formed of a fixed lower section attached to the burner, and of a detachable upper section, substantially as set forth.
2. A vapor bath consisting of a Bunsen burner, a perforated shell attached to said burner and composed of a fixed section and an upper detachable section, and of a steamgenerating vessel supported on the head of the Bunsen burner, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres ence of two subscribing witnesses.
PETER D. PINKE.
