HENRY HALLER, or BROOKLYN, ASSIGNOR TO GEORGE 1?. ROLL, OF
NEW YORK, N. Y.
SEAMLESS SHOE.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,643,'da.ted May 12, 1885.
Application filed March 3, 1885. (X0 model.)
T 0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY HALLER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Seamless Shoes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a shoe specially adapted for a walking-shoe,and for out-door games and for sporting purposes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents an incomplete blank for the body of alow-cut shoe made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is an incomplete blank for the body ofa high-cut shoe made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a completed blank for a low-cut shoe made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 4 is a plan view of a completed blank for a high-cut shoe made in accordance with this invention. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the body of this improved shoe. Fig. 6 is a bottom plan View of the body of this improved shoe. Fig. 7 is a side elevation of the complete shoe made in accordance with this invention.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspouding parts.
In carrying out my invention the leather or other suitable material which is to form the body of the shoe is first cut by one of the patterns shown in Figs. 1 and 2, according as a low-cut or a button shoe is desired to be made. Thepattern A (shown in Figs. 1 and 2) is pro vided at the toe and heel ends with central V-shaped indentations, a, for the front and back seams. NVhen the blank is cut out, it is folded up and crimped by a suitable crimpingmachine, so that the lower edge assumes the contour shown in Fig. 3. Au angular portion, b, is then cut out at the lower part of the toe portion of the folded blanks, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, after which the blank is sewed up along the front and back, so as to form a seamless body with a longitudinal front seam, d, and short lateral scams (1 below the toes, and with a back seam, e. The cutting out of the lower toe portion prevents the formation of wrinkles below the toes. The body A is then placed on the last and stretched, so as to conform to the shape of the last. The shoe is finished while the body is on the last by attaching the counter, tip, sole, and heel.
An insole may be used, if desired; but it is not required, as the bottom of the seamless body may be used as the insole.
The welt is entirely dispensed with.
The shoe has no seams at the parts exposed to wear, and fits the foot easily and snugly, so that it is of special advantage for use in all kinds of games and sports.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A blank for a shoe, comprising the bottom and upper in one piece, and provided with V- shaped recesses at toe and heel parts, and with lateral recesses at the toe part, opening into the V- shaped recess thereof, substantially as described.
2. The'body of a boot or shoe constituting the upper and the bottom in one piece, the heel and toe ends being united by scams 6 and d, which extend beneath the heel and toe, respectively, the said extended toe-seam being connectedflwith lateral seams d d,suhstantially as described.
3. A boot or shoe comprising a single piece of leather, or other suitable material, which serves as an upper and also as an inner or middle sole, the toe and heel being closed by seams extending into the sole portion, the toe-seam being connected with lateral seams d d, in combination with an outer sole, which covers the said seams in the sole portion, substantially as described.
4. A boot or shoe comprising a single piece of leather, or other suitable material, which serves as an upper and also as an inner or middle sole, the toe and heel being closed by seams extending into the sole po:rtion, the toeseam being connected with lateral seams d cl, in combination with an outer sole, which covers the said seams in the sole.- portion, and a toe-cap, which covers a portion of the toeseam in the upper, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in pres ence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY HALLER.
