SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,236, dated May 5, 1885.

T0 all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE A. SPRoss and BOLLA MEEKER, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothes- Racks; and we do hereby declare the following to be-a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

Our invention relates to clothes-racks adapted especially for use in airing clothes after ironing, the object being to provide a device of this character of neat and durable form, and so constructed and arranged as to be readily folded against the wall, to which it may be attached when not required for use.

The invention consists in the combination, with a two-part folding bracket, of arms secured thereto, and in the features of construction hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure l illustrates our invention in perspective, and Fig. 2 represents the same in folded position.

The supporting-bracket of the rack consists of two sections, A and B, of substantially the same shape and size. The section A is adapted to be secured upon awall, O, or other surface, and is provided near its lower edge with a transverse cleat, D. The section-B is pivotally secured to the upper section, A, by means of side links, D D', which are respectively held upon the side edges of the sections by pivots E. The relative arrangement of the sections A and B is such that when the device is in the folded position shown in Fig. 2 the upper edge of the lower section, B, will overlap the lower edge of the section A. The lower section, B, is also provided near its upper edge with a transverse cleat, against which the lower end of the section A abuts to hold the device in the position shown in Fig. l.

Upon the lower rounded end of the section B are pivotally secured a series of arms, F, held by pivots f and readily adjustable.

It will be apparent that by placing the upper end of the lower bracketsection under the lower edge of the upper section the arms F will be supported in a horizontalposition. Vhen it is desired to fold the arms F against the wall out of the way, it is only necessary to raise said arms to release the lower section, B, of the bracket, which latter will then drop with the arms F to the position shown in Eig. 2.

Having fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. In a clothes-rack, the combination, with a stationary section adapted to besecured to a wall or other support, of a movable section provided with arms, and having a link-connection with the stationary section, so that said movable section may engage the edge of the stationary section in use and depend from the latter when not in use, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with the bracket-scctions having a link-connection, of a transverse cleat on the movable section to support the latter ata right angle to the stationary section when in use, substantially as set forth.
