SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 317,018,6lated May 5, 1885.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE L. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, 'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. V

This invention has relation to improvements in buttons applicable to wearing-apparel; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of devices, as hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the appended claim.

The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention, in

which- Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of my button. Fig.=2 is a plan view of one-half of the same. the bar detached from the button. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the bar in modified form. Fig. 5 is also a similar view of the bar in modification. Fig. 6 is avertical sectionalview. Fig. 7 is also a vertical section. Fig. 8 is an edge view of Fig. 5. Fig. 9 is a face view of the button, and Fig. 10 is an edge view of the same.

Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, a and b designate the outer and inner disks which form the button. The inner disk, I), is constructed somewhat smaller than the outer one, and each of which is provided with a marginal flange, c, which is adapted to engage one an other in securing them together, and each is further provided with a central raised portion, d, which is perforated, as at e, for the passage of a needle, by which they are secured by sewing to the garment. \Vithin the intervening space, f, between the disks aforesaid, is seated the securing-bar g, to which the thread is applied. This portion gpresents a horizontal bar, the ends of which are bent to form the arc of a circle, as shown in the Fig. 3 is a plan view of raised portion of the inner disk, thus permitting the central horizontal depressed portion to lie flush with the face of the said raised perforated part of the inner disk or below the same,

thereby bringing the bar close to the'surfaee 0f the garment,per1nitting more space between the button and garment for the suspender-end, &c., and at the same time preventing women the thread by which it may be secured to a garment.

I have shown in the drawings the bar in modified form, the result being the same in all when applied to the button, and a button constructed as shown is durable,easily applied to a garment, and at the same time cheap to manufacture.

Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,

The combination, with the disks a b, having marginal flanges c and raised portion d, of the securing-wire g, the ends of which are bent first in one direction, reversed, and bent in the opposite direction in the arc of a circle, thus bringing the horizontal bar in the center of the opposite ends of the bent portion, as shown and described, and for the purpose specified.
