R. P. A. TURCOT.
` FILTER. No. 316,674. Patented Apr. 28.1885.
TNE'SEEE.' .ZNVEN TUE.'
NITED 4STATES PATENT OEEICE.
REMI P. A. TURCOT, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
FILTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 316,674, dated April 28I 1885.
Application filed April 18, 1884. (N o model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, REMI P. A. TURcoT, of the city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Filters, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification.
My invention relates to that class of filters which are designed to be attached directly to the nozzles of faucets; and the objectof my in vention is to produce a filter of simple construction and efficient in its operation.
My invention consists in certain peculiar and novel features ol'construction and arrange` ment, as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lis a View, partly in section and partly in side elevation, of my filter applied to a plain faucet. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the filter applied to a threaded nozzel.
In the said drawings, A designates a faucet, which is either formed with a plain nozzle, as shown in Fig. l, or a threaded nozzle, as shown in Eig. 2.
B designates the filtering-chamber, which is composed of two separate sections, b b', the meeting edges of which are so formed as to make a water-tight joint when brought together. Each of these members is formed with a central aperture, and is of substantially the shape shown in the drawings.
The space B is designed to receive any suitable iltering material.
O designates a tube, upon the lower end of which is formed two or more radial thumbpieces, c, and the upper end of which is enlarged and internally screwthreaded, as indicated at c. This tube passes through the aperture of the member b', and its enlarged portion c lies beneath and surrounds the aperture of the member b.
Within the tube Gis a diaphragm, c2, above and below which are a number of holes or perforations formed through the sides of the tube.
As shown in Eig. l, the filter is attached to a plain nozzle by an externallythreaded split ring, D, the reduced lower portion of which fits into the enlarged portion c of the tube O, 5o while the enlarged upper split portion surrounds the nozzle.
E designates a clamp -:uut, which screws around the split portion of the ring D and compresses the latter around the nozzle.
As shown in Fig. 2, the split ring and clampnut are dispensed with, and in lieu thereof the tube E is used, the lower reduced end of said tube being externally screwthreaded and tting into the enlarged portion c of the tube O, While the internally-threaded portion of the tube F is screwed directly upon the faucet. The water flows from the faucet through the chamber B, thence through the perforations of the tube O, and out of said tube. The apcrture of the lower member is closed by a washer, G.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The filtering-chamber composed of the 7o sections b b', in combination with the perforated tube O, having the enlarged portion c', the diaphragm c2, and the thumb-pieces c, and the connection for holding the filter upon the faucet-nozzle, as described.
2. The chamber B, composed of the sections b b', in combination with the perforated tube O, having the diaphragm, the split ring D, the nut E, and the washer G, as described.
REMI P. A. TURCO'I.
