UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTOINE BENEZIT, or VILLENEUVEsUR-LOT, FRANCE.
ALARM FOR SHOP-DOORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,999, dated April 21, 1885.
Application filed December 30, 1884. (No model.) Patented in France April 26, 1884, No. 161,739.
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE BENEZIT, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Villeneuvesur- Lot, France, have invented new and useful Improvements in Alarms for Shop-Doors and the like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object an improved bell arrangement for indicating when a door or the like is opened.
Figure l is an elevation of the bell mechanism; Fig. 2, a plan of the same and of its connection with the handle of a door.
This bell device is fixed on the door itself, and above or at the side of the handle. The bell arrangement consists of two plates, A and B, held together at a suitable distance by pil lars b 1). Between the plates the whole of the mechanism is mounted. The mechanism consists chiefly of wheel-gearing operated by a toothed segment, 0, connected with a rod, D, on the door-handle by awire or the like. The toothed segment is part of a lever fulcrumed at about the center of the segment. A spring, B, bears on the end of the said lever. When the handle is operated so as to open the door, the rod fixed thereon and connected with the segment causes the latter to rotate. The
segment in turn rotates a toothed wheel, E, 30 fixed on the arbor of a spring-barrel, F, similarly to the arrangement in a clock. This causes the spring to be wound up, and another wheel on the top of the barrel rotates and transmits its motion to a pinion, G, fixed on the arbor of an escapement-wheel, H, which is in this manner caused to revolve Very rapidly, and imparts rapid to-and-fro motion to an escapement, S, gearing therewith and carrying the bell-hammer M, and thelatter sounds the bell '1.
The spring B causes the segment 0 to resume its normal position when the door-handle is' ANTOINE BENEZIT.
