UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFIGEI CLIFFORD H. PRESCOTT, OF LAWRENCE, MASSACHUSETTS.
-DRAWING-BOARD AND T-SQUARE.
A SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,545, dated April 14, 1885.
Application tiled December 30. 1884. (No model.)
To all whom, t may concern:
- ABe it known that I, CLIFFORD H. Pans- CoTT, a citizen of thel United States, residing at Lawrence, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Boards and T-Squares; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures o reference marked thereon. r
Figure l of the drawings is a perspective view cf my invention;V Fig. 2, anV edge view thereof; and Fig. 3, a detail view of the head of the T- square and guide-rod, showing them connected together.
The present invention has relation to that class of combined T- squares and drawingboards in which the headof the square is connected to the board and adaptedto slide along the edge thereof, and is especially designed as an improvement on my former patent, No. 308,040, dated November l1, 1884; and it consists in the details of construction substantially as shown in the drawings, and hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the drawing-board, and B the T- square, the head a thereof having connected toits inner edge a met-al saddle, C. In the present instance-I have shown the head a formed of wood,l and the saddle` constructed of metal consisting of areetaugular strip provided at its extremities with notched projections b, and midway of its end'san eye, c, through which the guide-rod D passes, the rod `fitting in the notched extremities or projections b.
Should it be considered preferable to form the head a of metal, the `notched projections and eye may be cast with it.
rIhe rod D fits in a grooved metallic strip, E,
suitably connected to one edge of the board A; but, if preferred, the groove may be made in the edge of the board, which would serve the same purpose-but not aswell. The rod D has one of its ends bent at, right angles to form a slotted extension, d', the opposite extension, d, being made separate and afterward secured to the end of the rod in any suitable manner. By means of these slotted extensions the rod is held within the groove at then edge of the board by screws e, theelongated slots in the extensions admitting the adjustment of the rod within the groove and held in its adj usted posit-ion by the set-screws, thus enabling the head of the T- square to slide with greater or less friction upon the grooved edge of the drawing-board.
The above-described means isa very simple and eective way to hold the T- square head against the edge of the drawing-board and ad!i mit it sliding as required.
Having` now fully described myvinvention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by 65,
Letters Patent, is-
l. rIhe combination, with a drawing-board having a groove in one of its edges and a guide-rod located therein, of a T- square connected to the rod and adapted to slide thereon, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. I
2. The combination, with a drawing-board having a groove in one of its edges and a guide-rod adjustable therein, of a T- square connected to said rod and adapted to slide thereon, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
3. The combination, with a drawing-board having a groove in one of its edges and a guide-rod terminating at its ends in angular slotted extensions and held within the groove by set-screws entering theslots of said extensions, of a T- square connected to the rod and adapted to slide thereon, substantially as and 8 5 for the purpose described.
4.. A drawing-board having in one of its edges a groove and a guide-rod, in combination with the head of a T- square provided with a saddle consisting of notched proje'cgo tions, and an eye for connecting the head to the rod, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. Y
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence g5
