Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. COX, of Lawrence, in the county of Douglas and State of separated from each other by the partition D.
The fiues E F extend toward the ends of the boiler, and are made broad enough to expose the entire bottom of the boiler to the heat of the smoke, which escapes through pipes G at the ends of the apparatus. The boiler is made with double walls II, to form an air-space, I, to impede the radiation of heat. Instead of the air-space I, non-conducting material may be secured to the outer surface of the sides of the boiler.
The boiler is formed with an offset, J, on the inner side, forming a support for the grating K, which divides the boiler into two compartments, L M, the upper compartment being used for steaming feed-such as corn in the ear-while the lower compartment is used for boiling shelled grain. The boiler is covered by a concavo-convex lid, N, which assists in confining the steam.

The furnaces may be constructed for either coal or wood, as desired.
With the above-described construction, by
locating the furnace or furnaces under the cendistributed throughout the apparatus, causing the feed to be evenly cooked. This construc tion also admits of the use of a comparatively small furnace, requiring comparatively little fuel.
What I claim is 1. The feed-cooking apparatus having the long boiler combined with a furnace having. separate chambers located under the center of the boiler, and separate flues for said chambers extending to opposite ends of the boiler, A
substantially as shown and described.
