Description
United States Patent O 3,153,408 MVABLE @VEN UNER Frederielr Brillas, 331i) hurting Ave., Bronx, NY. Filed @ce 31, 1962, Ser. No. 234,457 z claims. (el. ias-39) This invention relates to cooking ovens and more particularly to easily removable liners therefor.
The present invention inds ready application in domestic ranges and ovens wherein foodstuifs are often splattered and spilled onto the inner surfaces thereof and which foodstuffs must be regularly removed.
Most ovens and ranges are constructed with the side, back, top and bottom integrally and inseparably assembled. In normal use, foodstuifs being prepared in the oven are deposited on the inner surfaces thereof by either splattering, spilling, boiling over, or just being carried olf in the cooking smoke. Such deposits are unsightly and emit obnoxious odors when the oven is subsequently used. A,
Removal of the deposits is is difcult because they are usually encrusted to the surfaces and because the oven surfaces are so closely `spaced that it is difficult to maneuver therein. Removal of the deposits which accumulate in the corners are especially difficult if not at times impossible to remove.
It is an object of this invention to provide a novel oven liner.
Another object is to provide a novel oven liner constructed from separable units.
Another object is to provide a novel oven liner constructed of separable units which lare easily assembled into a composite liner without the use of securing meinbers.
Another object is to provide a novel yoven liner constructed of separable units which are easily disassembled and removed from the oven to facilitate cleaning thereof.
Still another object is to provide a novel oven liner constructed of separable units and whereinsome or all of said units are telescopic to allow expansion or contraction thereof so as to iit into ovens of diiferent sizes.
The present invention contemplates an oven liner comprised of top, bottom, rear, and side plate members adapted to be positioned in spaced relationship inside an oven and rrnly held in place therein by ridges provided on certain ones of said plate members and a single spring member.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

Referring to the drawings for a more detailed description of the present invention, an embodiment thereof is shown in position in a floor type range adapted for domestic use and generally designated by the numeral 11. It should be understood, however, that the hereinafter described application of the invention to a floor type range for domestic use is for purpose of illustration only inasmuch as the subject invention nds ready application to wall type ovens and to ovens and ranges for restaurant, institutional and other uses.
An oven section, generally designated by numeral 13 is provided in range 11 having a top wall 15, a bottom Wall Patented Oct. 20, 1964 ICC 17, a right wall 19, a left wall 21, a rear wall 23 and a front wall 25 (FIG. l). An opening 27 is provided in front wall 25 to allow access to the interior of oven 13. A. door 29 hingedly connected to front wall 25 is pivotable from a position closing opening 27 to a position removed from opening 27 as shown in FlG. l.
A top plate 31, a bottom plate 33, a right side plate assembly 35, a left side plate assembly 81 and la rear plate 39 when assembled within yoven 13 provide a composite, separable liner therefor. Top plate 31 and bottom plate 33 each have formed therein channels 43, 45 along their richt and left edges respectively. Right side plate assembly 35 and left side plate assembly 81 as viewed in FIG. 2 each comprises as shown in FIG. 3 two slide plates S3, 85 and a guide plate 87. A chanel S9 is provided along each of the upper and lower edges of guide plate 87 adapted to guide slide plates 33, 35 for movement toward each other or away from each other. Channels 47 are mounted on the slide plates 83, 85 to support and guide the oven racks 49 movement within the liner. Openings 89' are out in channels 43 and 45 to accommodate channels 89.
' rivets e9 a leaf spring '71 (FIGS. 2 and 3) which constitutes means preventing inadvertent removal of the oven liner when positioned in oven 13.
To assemble oven liner into oven 13 rear plate 39 is rst inserted adjacent rear wall 23. Bottom plate 33 is placed upon bottom wall 17. Right side plate assembly 35 and left side plate assembly 31 are positioned in channels 43 and 45, respectively, of bottom plate 33. Top plate 31 is then positioned with channels 43 and 45 thereof set over the upper edges of right side plate assembly 35 and left side plate `assembly 31, respectively. Spring 71 must be flexed while top plate 31 is being positioned, but once top plate 31 its positioned spring 71 is released and exerts a downward pressure upon top plate 31, right side plate assembly 35, left side plate assembly 81 and bottom plate 33 to maintain same in proper position. Rear plate 39 is maintained in position by bottom plate 33, right side plate assembly 35, and left side plate assembly 81.
An opening 7 5 (FIG. 3) is provided in the liner by making top plate 31 shorter in depth than plates 33, 35 and 81. The short height of right side plate assembly 35 and left side plate assembly 31 provides a space '77 above top plate 31. Open '75 and space 77 allow for proper circulation of the heat of oven 13 throughout the liner. When the oven liner is properly positioned in oven 13 racks 49 may be inserted in channels 47. Racks 49 not only support the foodstuffs during preparation but also serve to space and support right side plate assembly 35, left side plate assembly S1 and rear plate 39.
In use, plate assemblies 81 and 35 are positioned inside `oven 13 and slide plates 83, 85 spaced the proper distance apart to overlie their respective side walls. The topplate, bottom plate and rear plate may also be constructed in a manner similar to plate assemblies 81 and 35.
The plate members may be constructed of any suitable metal coated with enamel to allow easy cleaning thereof. The plates may also be constructed of an inexpensive material such as aluminum and disposed of instead of cleaned.
Additional apertures may be provided in the plate members to allow for positioning of said plate members around either the heating fixtures (electric or gas) or other iixtures which may be found in oven 13.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made Within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent An oven liner adapted to be removably positioned in an oven comprising,
nel means coacting with said right and left pl-ate means and said top and bottom plate means to maintain same in spaced box-like relationship, and
c) -spring means Carried by said top plate means adapted to bear against a top inside wall of the oven when `said top, bottom, rear, right and left plate means are assembled in spaced relationship therein for applying pressure against said plate means to maintain said top, bottom, right and left plate means in position in the oven, said rear plate means being adapted to occupy a position in the oven to the rear of said top, bottom, right and left plate means, said top, bottom, right and left plate means adapted to maintain said rear plate means in proper position in 'the oven, e
d) said top, bottom, rear, right and left plate means consisting of spaced slide members and a guide member interconnecting said spaced slide members for movement towards and away from each other to pro- Vide adjustable plate means adapted to fit yovens of different sizes.
2. An oven liner adapted to in an oven comprising,
(a) top, bottom, rea'r, right and left side plate means,
be removably positioned adapted to be positioned with their respective edges in adjacent relationship to form a box-like oven liner open at the front thereof,
(b) channel means formed in theright and left edges of said top and bottom plate means, said right and left plate means seating in said channel means when said right and left plate means are positioned between said top and bottom plate means, said channel means coacting with said right and left plate means and said top and'bottom plate means to maintain same in spaced box-like relationship, and
(c) spring means carriedby said top plate means adapted to bear against a top' inside wall of the oven when said top, bottom, rear, right and left plate means are assembled in spaced relationship therein for applying pressure against said plate -means to maintain said top, bottom,- right and left plate means in position in the ove'n, said rear plate means being adapted to occupy a position in the oven to the rear of said top, bottom, right and left plate means, said Y top, bottom, right and left plate means adaptedto maintain said rear plate means in proper position in the oven,
(d) said right and left side plates consisting of movable slide plate members mounted in a guide member, for movement toward and away from each other to form side plates which are adjustable.

- 2. AN OVEN LINER ADAPTED TO BE REMOVABLY POSITIONED IN AN OVEN COMPRISING, (A) TOP, BOTTOM, REAR, RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE PLATE MEANS, ADAPTED TO BE POSITIONED WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE EDGES IN ADJACENT RELATIONSHIP TO FORM A BOX-LIKE OVEN LINER OPEN AT THE FRONT THEREOF, (B) CHANNEL MEANS FORMED IN THE RIGHT AND LEFT EDGES OF SAID TOP AND BOTTOM PLATE MEANS, SAID RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS SEATING IN SAID CHANNEL MEANS WHEN SAID RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS ARE POSITIONED BETWEEN SAID TOP AND BOTTOM PLATE MEANS, SAID CHANNEL MEANS COACTING WITH SAID RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS AND SAID TOP AND BOTTOM PLATE MEANS TO MAINTAIN SAME IN SPACED BOX-LIKE RELATIONSHIP, AND (C) SPRING MEANS CARRIED BY SAID TOP PLATE MEANS ADAPTED TO BEAR AGAINST A TOP INSIDE WALL OF THE OVEN WHEN SAID TOP, BOTTOM, REAR, RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS ARE ASSEMBLED IN SPACED RELATIONSHIP THEREIN FOR APPLYING PRESSURE AGAINST SAID PLATE MEANS TO MAINTAIN SAID TOP, BOTTOM, RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS BEING IN POSITION IN THE OVEN, SAID REAR PLATE MEANS BEING ADAPTED TO OCCUPY A POSITION IN THE OVEN TO THE REAR OF SAID TOP, BOTTOM, RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS, SAID TOP, BOTTOM, RIGHT AND LEFT PLATE MEANS ADAPTED TO MAINTAIN SAID REAR PLATE MEANS IN PROPER POSITION IN THE OVEN, (D) SAID RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE PLATES CONSISTING OF MOVABLE SLIDE PLATE MEMBERS MOUNTED IN A GUIDE MEMBER, FOR MOVEMENT TOWARD AND AWAY FROM EACH OTHER TO FORM SIDE PLATES WHICH ARE ADJUSTABLE.
