(Ci. 222 131) This invention relates to improvements in a Discharge Spout for use with containers or jugs such as are used for transporting hot and cold liquids.
The principal object of the present invention is the provision of a dispensing or discharge spout that is formed of individual parts capable of assembly into an operative device without the use of any auxiliary securing or clamping means, such as nuts, bolts, screws, or the like.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a dispensing or discharge spout for accomplishing the foregoing object in which the parts are formed as plastic casting or moldings to dimensions that they are readily assembled without any further machining.
A further object of the present invention is the provision of a dispensing or discharge spout that will accomplish the foregoing objects that is readily adaptable to jugs, containers, or other tiltable device and wherein use may be made of a single member or of a plurality of members such as an outer casing and an inner liner or container, per se, and which inner and outer members may or may not be materially spaced from one another, and with insulation between the members when they are spaced from one another.
`Other objects and advantages of the present inventlon should be readily apparent by reference to the following specification considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof and it is to be understood that any modifications may be made in the exact structural details there shown and described, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from or exceeding the spirit of the invention.

Throughout the several views of the drawings similar reference characters are employed to denote the same or similar parts.
The invention is illustrated in the drawings in connection with what is generally termed a picnic jug that is a transportable container of a capacity from approximately a quart to one or several gallons. These picnic jugs are generally of a substantially circular or substantially square plan and readily transportable through a carrying handle. The said picnic jugs are further generally insulated against loss of internal heat, when heated lliquid is therein, and are insulated against the ingression of heat, when the contents thereof is cold.
It is to be understood, however, that the improved discharge spout of the present invention may be used with equal facility with all types of tiltable containers and is not limited to the particular containers or jugs herein disclosed and hereinafter particularly described. The discharge spout of the present invention will generally be used with a container having an inner liner enclosed or encased by an outer shell through and between which the discharge spout extends, nevertheless the said discharge spout of the present invention may be employed with a single member container for discharging the contents therefrom.
Specifically the dispensing or discharge spout of the present invention is illustrated in connection with one form of a container which comprises an outer casing 15 shown in the drawings as consisting of a lower portion 16 and an upper portion 17. The upper and lower portions 16 and 1'7, of the form shown in FIGS. 1 to 6, are formed of so-called plasticy material, such as polystyrene foam, wherefore the walls are quite thick and in and of themselves form an insulating wall against the transmission of heat and cold.
The lower portion 16 of the outer casing 15 is relatively shallow by comparison with the full height of the container and of cup-shaped form with a peripheral upstanding tongue 18 at the inner rim of the cup.
The upper portion 17 of the outer casing, constituting the major portion of the said outer casing, is illustrated, for artistic eiect, with a plurality of depressed portions 19 giving the effect of ribs. The lower end of the said outer casing upper portion 17 is provided with a countersunk seat 20 complementary to the tongue 18 and adapted to receive the said tongue 18. In practice the said upper and lower portions 16 and 17 are nested or fitted to one another through the said tongue 1S and seat 20 and are ermanently secured to one another through adhesive 21.
The upper portion 17 of the outer casing is provided at its upper end with an upstanding substantially circular boss 22 including an inwardly projecting rim or flange 23 provided with a central aperture 24.
The outer surfaces of the outer casing are illustrated as formed to a large radius and therefore give the impression of being rectangular or square in plan. The said outer casing is provided with a cavity 25 circular in plan and vertically following the reduced diameters of the upper end of the upper portion 17 of said outer casing 15.
Disposed within the casing 1S is a liner or container, per se, 26, preferably similar to the casing 15 formed of so called plastic material, such as polyethylene, and circular in plan. The liner or inner container 26 is provided with a bottom 27 adapted to rest on the bottom 28 of the outer casing lower portion 16 with an upstanding wall or body portion 29 at the perimeter of the bottom 27 and which wall is reduced in diameter at 30 to be within the reduced portion or circular boss 22 of the outer casing upper portion 17. The liner or inner container 26 above the reduced diameter portion 30 is further reduced in diameter as at 31 to extend or project Ythrough the outer casing outlet aperture 24. Upwardly of the sleevelike projection 31 the liner or inner container 26 is further reduced to provide a neck 32 exteriorly of which is formed ridges, in effect, screw th-reads 33. The neck is provided at its upper end with an inwardly projecting ange 34 forming a support for a cup 35 to depend within the neck 32 and downwardly projecting with respect thereto. The said cup 35 is suspended within the neck 32 through an outwardly projecting radial flange 36 at the upper end of its body portion and resting on the neck inwardly projecting flange 34.
A cap 37 including a body portion 3S and a downwardly projecting peripheral skirt 39 closes the upper end of the jug, per se, and cup 35. The cap is secured in operative position through ridges or screw threads 40 inwardly projecting from the cap skirt 39 cooperating with the inner container screw threads 33.
The outer casing upper portion 17 has a top portion 41 outwardly and downwardly extending from the circular boss 22 with said top portion having an upwardly projecting pad or boss 42. The inner container or liner between the wall or body portion 29 and the reduced portion 30 thereof is likewise provided with an outwardly and downwardly extending top 43. The said outer casing top 41 and inner container or liner to-p 43 lie in spaced apart planes at angles with one another, as seen most clearly in FIG 3. The said inner container or liner top 43 is provided at the point thereof beneath the outer container boss or pad 42 with an upwardly formed depression with said depression resulting in a base portion 44, a part of said inner container top 43, that is parallel with the upper surface of the boss or pad 42. The said base portion 44 of the inner container or liner top depression 43 is provided with an aperture 45 in axial alignment with an aperture or opening 46 through the outer member top boss or pad 42 and which aperture 46 is substantially centrally of the said boss or pad 42. It is through the aligned openings or apertures 45 and 46 that the improved dispensing or discharging spout, indicated in its entirety by the reference numeral 47, of the present invention, extends.
As shown most clearly in FIGS. and 6, the dispensing or discharge spout 47 comprises a stem or sleevelike member 48 having at its inner end a radial flange 49. The major or body portion 50 of the sleeve 48 is circular in cross-section and of a given diameter and extends from the radial flange 49 to a point beyond the outer surface of the boss or pad 42. The projecting portion of the said sleeve body portion beyond the boss or pad 42 is provided with a circumferential groove 51 one wall of which is in substantial alignment with the upper surface of said boss or pad 42. The body portion 50 of the sleeve 48 extends outwardly of the groove 51 as a reduced nozzle portion 52 having at its outer end a thickened rim 53.l
The sleeve body portion 50 has mounted thereon adjacent its radial ange 49 a compressible grommet 54, preferably formed of relatively soft deformable material, such as rubber, although other relatively flexible and compressible material may be employed. The grommet 54 is provided midway of its length with a groove 55 receiving the inner container or liner top portion 44 immediately adjacent the aperture 45 and which grommet due to its groove 55 forms, in effect, on each face of the said liner or inner container, around the aperture 45 a positioning washer 56 and 57.
In practice the outer diameter of the sleeve body portion 50 is made somewhat greater than the diameter of the central passageway of the grommet 54 wherefore considerable pressure is required to force the sleeve body portion 50 through the said grommet aperture. By this construction the material of the grommet between the base of its groove and its aperture is placed under compression for effecting a seal against flow around the sleeve 48 and grommet and through the aperture 45 of the inner container and grommet for sealing any leakage relative to the sleeve except by way of its central passageway 58.
The discharge or dispensing spout sleeve 48 after being pressed home through the grommet 54 is retained in operative position by a exible washer or the like 59 which is disposed in the sleeve circumferential groove 51. In practice the said lock member 59 may conveniently be formed of exible plastic, such as polyethylene. The said locking member has a central passageway of a diameter which is substantially equal to the base diameter of the said peripheral groove 51 but substantially less than the exterior diameter of the sleeve body member 50, wherefore said locking member must be compressed or deformed to pass over the sleeve to enter the groove 51. In order to facilitate this operation the reduced nozzle portion 52 is connected with the sleeve body 50 by an upward inclined portion 6? which progressively expands the inner diameter of the locking member central aperture in being pressed or pushed to its locking position.
The open upper end of the discharge spout 43 is closed by a cup-shaped closure member 61 which includes a closing body portion 62 from the periphery of which depends a skirt 63 with a cuplike interior 64. The inner diameter of the cuplike interior 64 is such that a relatively tight friction iit is effected ywith the thickened rim 53 of the sleeve 48. The relation of these parts is such that some force is required to push the closure member 61 home and the same force is required to disengage the parts, wherefore, the closure member is frictionally retained from inadvertent disassociation with the nozzle.
In practice, and to insure against loss of said closure member 61 the closing body portion 62 thereof has integral therewith a strap or leash 65 which is connected at its other end with the dispensing or discharge sleeve locking member 59, again, by being formed integral therewith. In other words, in practice, the locking member 59, the closure member 61 and the strap or leash 65 are formed integral with one another, as from plastic, again, polyethylene, and with said strap or leash 65 as being flexible. By this construction the said closure member 61 can be operatively associated with the spout, as shown in full lines in FIG. 6, or may be disassociated therefrom, as shown in phantom lines in said FIG. 6, and without danger of being lost or misplaced.
In order to transport the jug the said outer casing upper portion 17 outwardly of the reduced portion or circular boss 22 is provided with sockets 164 and 165 respectively receiving inserts 66 and 67 each provided downwardly of its upper end with an aperture respectively receiving a trunnion 68 and 69 at lower ends of arms 7) and 71 of a bale handle and the upper ends of which arms 70 and 71 are joined by the bale handle body portion 72.
In FIG. 7 the dispensing or discharge spout of the present invention is illustrated in connection with a container or jug of spaced inner and outer members or containers, such, for example, as disclosed in applicants pending application, Serial No. 75,617, filed December 13, 1960.
Specically, the said container or jug in FIG. 7, and as generally set forth in the above identified pending application, comprises a plastic outer member 73 formed by the so called blow method and includes a body portion or wall '74 having depending from its bottom 75 a flange 76 which downwardly and outwardly inclines. The said outer member wall 74 has at its upper end an inwardly and upwardly inclined top 77 terminating in a reduced circular or boss portion 7S. The said top 77 and the circular or boss portion 7S are, in reality, connected with one another through the inwardly projecting bead 79.
y The said outer member 73 is provided through its depending iiange 76 with an opening through which, as will d be obvious from the drawings, and as will presently be made clear, is inserted the inner member or container, indicated in its entirety by the reference numeral 80. The said outer member downwardly projecting flange 76 is adapted to secure thereto a bottom closure 81 which at its periphery has an upstanding inwardly inclined flange 82 that cooperates with the downwardly and outwardly inclined liange 76 in securing the parts to one another.
The circular reduced portion 78 at the upper end of the outer member is provided with an inwardly projecting flange 33 that cooperates, as will presently be made clear, with the bead 79 in securing the inner member or container Si) within the outer member 73.
The said inner member 89, similar to the outer member 73, is formed of plastic by the blow7 method and comprises a wall or body portion 84 rising from the perimeter of a bottom 35. The said inner container wall 3ft has at its upper end an upwardly inwardly inclined top 86 which in effect underlies the outer member top 77 and with said tops substantially parallel with one another. Upwardly projecting from the inner member or container top Se is an upstanding reduced sleeve portion S7 including an outwardly formed bead S3. The said sleeve portion S7 projects through the top opening of the outer member as provided by its ange 83. The said inner member or container Sil is provided above its sleeve-like portion 87 with a further reduced sleeve or neck portion 89 on which is formed outwardly projecting ribs or threads 90 and through which the cup 35 and closure cap 37 are secured to the jug.
The inner member or container Sti has its body portion or Wall 84, its bottom S5 and upwardly, inwardly inclined top 86 inwardly spaced from the corresponding outer member body or wall portion 74, bottom 75 and inwardly, upwardly inclined top 77 with, as noted above, said inner member or container top Sd and the outer member top 77 substantially parallel with one another and with said space between said parts being indicated by the reference numeral 91.
The outer member top 77 is provided substantially midway of the distance between the body portion or wall 74 and the circular boss 78 with a pad or boss 92 substantially centrally of which there is provided an aperture 93. The inner member or container top 86 is likewise provided with an opening or aperture 94 which is in axial alignment with the aperture 93. Extending through the said axially aligned openings or apertures 93 and 94 is the dispensing or discharge spout mechanism 47, above described in detail, and which as seen in FIG. 7 follows the saine outline and detail as illustrated in FIG. 3.
In practice, and as set forth in the above identified pending application, the outer member 73 and the inner member or container 80 are each formed of the above identified plastic material, preferably, such as polyethylene and wherefore the said parts are slightly llexible and compressible when in the thinness illustrated and permissible in articles as disclosed herein. In practice and after the said inner member or container 8@ and the outer member 73 have been made or formed, the ferrule 54 is rst placed in the inner member or container aperture 94 whereupon the said inner member or container 80 is inserted through the bottom opening of the outer member 73 and pushed or pressed home, that is, the neck is pushed through the outer member top opening as is the sleeve 87 until the bead Sii of the inner member or container sleeve S7 is within the groove or space between the outer member bead 79 and flange 78. This association of the parts is possible due to the slight compressibility of the parts due to the nature of their material, as above set forth. It is in this manner that the inner member or container 89 is suspended within the outer member 73 with the space 91 between them.
The said inner member or container S0, as noted above, in its final position has its aperture 94 in axial alignment with the outer member aperture 93 and at this time the sleeve 5t? is pressed through the grommet 5d until its ilange 49 is against the lower face of the grommet and at which time a seal is provided for the opening or aperture 94 against passage of liquid.
The sleeve 48 is locked in position by the locking member or washer 59, which, as noted above, may carry the sleeve outlet closure 6I.
After the said inner member or container 8@ and outer member 73 are secured to one another and the dispensing or discharge spout mounted in position but before the bottom opening closure member 8l is applied to the outer member bottom opening, the space 91 between the said inner member or container and outer member is supplied with insulation. T he insulation preferred is of the foam type which, as is well known, consists, essentially of mixing two liquids such as toluene and di-isocyanate. In other words, proper quantities of the said liquids are placed in the said space 91 whereupon the said bottom closure cap Sl is mounted in position.
The chemical reaction of the insulation, or foam, forming liquids commences substantially immediately upon -association and continues until the said chemicals have affected all of the liquids and which means that the entire space 9i is taken up by the said foam. The foam hardens to a substance referred to as a foam plastic of a denite shape and rigidity. This action therefore, results in the space between the inner member or container 86 and outer member 73 providing a substantially solid construction which spaces the said inner member or container and outer member from one another against collapse and at the same time locks the discharge or dispensing spout S9 in operative position and at the same time locks the bottom closure member 3l in its operative position.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in FIGS. 8 and 9, the rubber gro-mmet 54, above, is dispensed with and the seal between the parts is effected by the stem or sleevelike member 48 itself.
In lthis instance, use is made, as above, of an inner container or liner 26 formed of polyethylene having in its wall 29 the opening d5 through which extends the said sleevelike member or discharge sleeve, indicated by the reference numeral 48. The discharge sleeve 4S similar to the discharge sleeve 4S, above, is formed of polyethylene and is, therefore, similar to the inner container 25, somewhat compressible under some pressure.
As illustrated in said FIGS. 8 and 9 the discharge sleeve 4h just inwardly of its end radial flange 49 is provided with a slightly enlarged portion 95 which, while not absolutely necessary, is preferably formed to have a flat portion 96 preceded by an upwardly extending angular portion 97 from the periphery of the body portion 5t). In practice the opening 45 in the inner container wall 29 is formed to a diameter substantially equal to the discharge sleeve body portion StD while the enlarged portion 95 of the said discharge sleeve is formed to a diameter somewhat in excess of the diameter of the sleeve body portion 5b and opening 45.
In practice, the parts are assembled, as above set forth, namely, by inserting the discharge sleeve 48 through the opening d5 from the interior of the inner container 26. No appreciable resistance is Oifered to this insertion of the discharge sleeve until the upwardly inclined portion 97 starts through the opening 45 whereupon some pressure is required to seat the discharge sleeve with its ange 49 adjacent the inner wall of the container. This final seating `or positioning of the discharge sleeve 48 effects a compression in both the enlargement or shoulder 95 of the sleeve as well as a compression of the material of the inner container wall 29 immediately adjacent and around the opening 45. The compression of the parts is such as to establish a positive seal between the discharge sleeve 48 and the inner container.
The modification illustrated in FIGS. 10 and 11 contemplates the use of spaced apart inner member or container and outer member or enclosing casing, similar to 7 the disclosure in FIG. 7. Specifically, in this instance, it is contemplated to utilize an inner container 98 drawn of metal and including an inwardly, upwardly inelining top 99 through which is formed an opening Mtl, corresponding to the opening 45 in the modifications above described. In the present instance, it is contemplated that the material normally within the opening 100 is outwardly bent or formed to provide an outwardly projecting circular flange itil for the said opening 104).
With the modified construction in FIGS. and l1 the discharge sleeve 48', above, is employed and which sleeve includes a body portion Sil including an enlarged portion 95 that includes a relatively at shoulder 96 and an upward inclined lead portion 97. In this modification, similar to that in FIGS. 8 and 9, the discharge sleevey body portion 59 is formed to a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the opening 10i) in fthe inner container top 99 and outwardly projecting sleevelike flange lill with the enlarged shoulder portion 95 of the sleeve tcr a diameter in excess of the said opening 101.
Again, the parts are assembled, as above set forth, namely, by inserting the discharge sleeve 4S through the opening lill from the interior of the container 9S and, again, substantial resistance to this assemble of the parts is only encountered when the enlarged shoulder 95 is being forcefully pushed into the opening Ml. In the modification in FIGS. 10 and l1 the sealing compression is effected only in the shoulder 95 of the sleeve 48 since as noted above, the inner container 98 is formed of relatively non-compressible material, such as metal.
From the foregoing, it will now be understood that the improved dispensing or discharge spout of the present invention is adapted for use with containers including an inner liner or container and an outer member or casing and whether said inner member and outer member are spaced from one another or substantially adjacent one another, and that the objects above have been otherwise attained. It should also be noted that this invention is an adaption and carrying forward of the invention disclosed in applicants pending application for Dispensing Spigot for Containers, Serial No. 122,606, filed June 28, 1961.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing and an inner container, said outer casing `and inner container each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a dispensing and discharge device comprising a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned apertures, means associated with one of said dispensing sleeve and inner container within its aperture lcompressed upon the extending of the sleeve through said apertures to effect a seal around the sleeve and through the inner container at its aperture comprising a centrally apertured grommet carried by the inner container within its aperture with said grommet being formed of compressible material, said dispensing sleeve having an external diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture through the grommet compressing the grommet between itself and inner container aperture wall for sealing the joint between the sleeve `and the inner container aperture wall, means on said sleeve for positioning it with respect to the said inner container, said sleeve having a length to project beyond the outer casing, and locking means on said projecting portion of the sleeve for positioning it with respect to the outer casing and locking the sleeve in operative position.
2. In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing and an inner container, said outer casing and inner container each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a dispensing and discharge device comprising a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the in- ILO ner container through said aligned apertures, means associated with one of said dispensing sleeve and inner container within its aperture compressed upon the extending of the sleeve through said apertures to effect a seal around the sleeve and through the inner container aperture comprising a centrally apertured grommet carried by the inner container within its aperture with said grommet being formed of compressible material, said dispensing sleeve having an external diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture through the grommet compressing -the grommet between itself and inner container aperture wall for sealing the joint between the sleeve and the inner container laperture wall, means on said sleeve for positioning it with respect to the said inner container, said sleeve having a length to project beyond the outer casing, locking means on said projecting portion of the sleeve for positioning it with respect to the outer casing and locking the sleeve in operative position, and removable means exteriorly of the outer casing for closing the sleeve.

In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing and an inner container, said outer casing and inner container each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with 'the other, -a dispensing and discharge device comprising a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned apertures, means associated with one of said dispensing sleeve and inner container within its aperture compressed upon the extending of the sleeve through said apertures to effect a seal around the sleeve and through the inner container aperture comprising a centrally apertured grommet carried by the inner container opening with said grommet being formed of compressible material, Isaid dispensing sleeve having an external diameter greater than the diameter of the aperture through the grommet compressing the grommet between itself and inner container aperture wall for sealing the joint between the sleeve and inner container aperture wall, means on said sleeve for positioning it with respect to the said inner container, said sleeve having a length to project beyond the outer casing, locking means on said projecting portion of the sleeve for positioning it with respect to the outer casing and locking the sleeve in operative position, removable means exteriorly of the outer container for closing the sleeve, and leash means tying said sleeve removable closure means to the sleeve when in inoperative position.

In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing formed of plastic foam such as polystyrene foam, an inner container formed of plastic material such as polyethylene, said outer casing and inner container each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a centrally apertured grommet formed of compressible material carried by the inner container aperture with said grommet aperture in axial alignment with the outer casing aperture, a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned grommet aperture and outer casing aperture with said sleeve having a diameter greater than the grommet aperture diameter compressing the grommet between itself and the inner container aperture Wall for effecting a liquidtight seal between the said sleeve and inner container aperture wall, said dispensing sleeve having a radial flange at its inner end limiting the position of the sleeve with respect to the inner container, said sleeve having a length to project a portion thereof outwardly of the outer casing, a locking member on said sleeve projecting portion cooperating with the outer casing in locking the sleeve in operative position, and a cuplike closure member on the projecting portion of the sleeve outwardly of the locking member for closing the sleeve.

In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing formed of plastic foam such as polystyrene foam, an inner container formed of plastic material such as polyethylene, said outer casing and inner container each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other said wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a centrally apertured grommet formed of compressible material carried 4by the inner container aperture with said grommet aperture in axial alignment with the outer casing aperture, a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned grommet aperture and outer casing aperture with said sleeve having a diameter greater than the grommet aperture diameter compressing the grommet between itself and the inner container aperture wall for effecting a liquidtight seal between the said sleeve and inner container aperture wall, said dispensing sleeve having a radial flange at its inner end limiting the position of the sleeve with respect to the inner container, said sleeve having a length to project a portion thereof outwardly of the outer casing, a locking member on Isaid -sleeve projecting portion cooperating with the outer casing in locking the sleeve in operative position, a cuplike closure member on the projecting portion of the sleeve outwardly of the locking member for closing the sleeve, and leash means connecting said cuplike closure member with the sleeve t prevent misplacement when in inoperative position.

In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing formed of plastic in the form of polyethylene, an inner container formed of plastic material such as polyethylene, said outer casing and inner container being spaced from one another and each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said substantially parallel wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a centrally apertured grommet formed of compressible material carried by the inner container aperture with said grommet aperture in axial alignment with the outer casing aperture, a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned grommet aperture and outer casing aperture spanning the space between said outer casing and inner container and with said sleeve having a diameter greater than the grommet aperture diameter compressing the grommet between itself and the inner container aperture wall for effecting a liquid-tight seal between the said sleeve and inner container aperture wall said dispensing sleeve having a radial ange at its inner end limiting the position of the sleeve with respect to the inner container, said sleeve having a length to project a portion thereof outwardly of the outer casing, a locking member on said sleeve projecting portion cooperating with the outer casing in locking the sleeve in operative position, a cuplike closure member on the projecting portion of the sleeve outwardly of the locking member for closing the sleeve, and plastic foam insulation in the space between said outer casing and inner container and encircling the dispening sleeve.

In a device of the class described the combination of an outer casing formed of plastic in the form of polyethylene, an inner container formed of plastic material such as polyethylene, said outer casing and inner container being spaced from one another and each including a wall portion in substantial parallelism with the other, said substantially parallel wall portions each having an aperture in axial alignment with the other, a centrally apertured grommet formed of compressible material carried by the inner container aperture with said grommet aperture in axial alignment with the outer casing aperture, a dispensing sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through said aligned grommet aperture and outer casing aperture spanning the space between said outer casing and inner container and with said sleeve having a diameter greater than the grommet aperture diameter compressing the grommet between itself and the inner container aperture wall for effecting a liquid-tight seal between the said sleeve and inner container aperture wall said dispensing sleeve having a radial flange at its inner end limiting the position of the sleeve with respect to the inner container, said sleeve having a length to project a portion thereof outwardly of the outer casing, a locking member on said sleeve projecting portion cooperating with the outer casing in locking the sleeve in operative position, a cuplike closure member on the projecting portion of the sleeve outwardly of the locking member for closing the sleeve, leash means connecting said cuplike closure member with the sleeve to prevent misplacement when in inoperative position, and`plastic foam insulation in the space between said outer casing and inner container and encircling the dispensing sleeve.

In a dispensing and discharge mechanism of the class described, the combination of an inner container including a wall having an opening therethrough, an outer casing including a wall having an opening therethrough in alignment with the opening in the inner container, a dispensing and discharge device in the form of a sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through the inner container wall and outer casing wall aligned openings, one of said dispensing and discharge sleeve and inner container being formed of relatively compressible material with said dispensing sl-eeve having an external diameter, at least, at the point when within the container wall opening, greater than the internal diameter of the container wall opening, wherefore one of said sleeve and container wall, around its opening, is compressed to effect a leak-proof joint between the sleeve and container opening wall, means on said sleeve for positioning it with respect to the said inner container, said sleeve having a length to project beyond the outer casing, and locking means on said projecting portion of the sleeve including a circumferential groove in said sleeve and a flat collar in said sleeve groove for positioning the sleeve with respect to the outer casing and locking it in operative position.

In a dispensing and discharge mechanism of the class described, the combination of an inner container including a wall having an opening therethrough, an outer casing including a wall having an opening therethrough in alignment with the opening in the inner container, a dispensing and discharge device in the form of a sleeve extending from the interior of the inner container through the inner container wall and outer casing wall aligned openings, one of said dispensing and discharge sleeve and inner container being formed of relatively compressible material with said dispensing sleeve having an external diameter, at least, at the point when within the container wall opening, greater than the internal diameter of the container wall opening, wherefore one of said sleeve and container wall, around its opening, is compressed to effect a leak-proof joint between the sleeve and container opening wall, means on said sleeve for positioning it with respect to the said inner container, said sleeve having a length to project beyond the outer casing, locking means on said projecting portion of the sleeve including a circumferential groove in said sleeve and a flat collar in said sleeve groove for positioning the sleeve with respect to the outer casing and locking it in operative position, removable means exteriorly of the outer casing for closing the sleeve, and leach means intergral with the sleeve locking means tying said sleeve closure means to the container when in inoperative position.

Claims (1)

  1. 8. IN A DISPENSING AND DISCHARGE MECHANISM OF THE CLASS DESCRIBED, THE COMBINATION OF AN INNER CONTAINER INCLUDING A WALL HAVING AN OPENING THERETHROUGH, AN OUTER CASING INCLUDING A WALL HAVING AN OPENING THERETHROUGH IN ALIGNMENT WITH THE OPENING IN THE INNER CONTAINER, A DISPENSING AND DISCHARGE DEVICE IN THE FORM OF A SLEEVE EXTENDING FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE INNER CONTAINER THROUGH THE INNER CONTAINER WALL AND OUTER CASING WALL ALIGNED OPENINGS, ONE OF SAID DISPENSING AND DISCHARGE SLEEVE AND INNER CONTAINER BEING FORMED OF RELATIVELY COMPRESSIBLE MATERIAL WITH SAID DISPENSING SLEEVE HAVING AN EXTERNAL DIAMETER, AT LEAST, AT THE POINT WHEN WITHIN THE CONTAINER WALL OPENING, GREATER THAN THE INTERNAL DIAMETER OF THE CONTAINER WALL OPENING, WHEREFORE ONE OF SAID SLEEVE AND CONTAINER WALL, AROUND ITS OPENING, IS COMPRESSED TO EFFECT A LEAK-PROOF JOINT BETWEEN THE SLEEVE AND CONTAINER OPENING WALL, MEANS ON SAID SLEEVE FOR POSITIONING IT WITH RESPECT TO THE SAID INNER CONTAINER, SAID SLEEVE HAVING A LENGTH TO PROJECT BEYOND THE OUTER CASING, AND LOCKING MEANS ON SAID PROJECTING PORTION OF THE SLEEVE INCLUDING A CIRCUMFERENTIAL GROOVE IN SAID SLEEVE AND A FLAT COLLAR IN SAID SLEEVE GROOVE FOR POSITIONING THE SLEEVE WITH RESPECT TO THE OUTER CASING AND LOCKING IT IN OPERATIVE POSITION.
