Description

(No Model.) G. R. DAVIS.
HARROW ATTACHMENT FOR GULTIVATORS.
No. 315,132. r Patented Apr. '7, 1885.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CALVIN R. DAVIS, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR TO THE KIMBER- LIN MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
HARROW ATTACHMENT FOR CULTIVATORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 315,132, dated April 7, 1885.
Application filed November 12, 1884. (No model.) I
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN R. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Harrow Attachments for Cultivators, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved harrow attachment for cultivator-plows.
The object of my improvement is to attach to a single plow-standard of an ordinary cultivator-plow in place of the ordinary single plow, by means of an improved fixture, a gang of three light shovel-shaped stirringteeth, as hereinafter described.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention.
Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved attachment applied to a cultivator-plow standard. Fig. 2 is a plan of the attachment. Fig. 3 is a partial plan showing the manner of attaching to arectangular plowstandard.
The plow'standard a is of the usual wellknown form, having a cylindrical portion, b, inclined forward. Tothis cylindrical portion a single shovel-plow is usually secured. I remove from the plow'standard the plow, and attach to the standard a frame, c, having diverging sides. Said frame is formed, preferably, of malleable iron, and is secured to the plow-standard by means of an inclined clampsocket, d. 'Said socket is so arranged relatively to'the frame and to the standard that when the frame is secured to the standard, the
diverging sides of the frame extend backward and equally to each side of the standard.
Projecting forward from frame c,and inline with the standard a is an arm, 6, having on its outer end a vertical portion, f, to which is attached by means of a single bolt a shovelshaped barrow-tooth, A. The diverging sides of frame 0 are turned outward at their rear ends to form short arms 9 and h, which receive two other shovel-shaped barrow-teeth, B and C, which are secured to their places by a single bolt through. each. The teeth A, B, and O are each formed from a flat steel bar, having the lower end bent forward, slightly widened, and tapered to an obtuse point.
For the purpose of adapting my attachment to be secured to a plow-standard which is rectangular, the front of frame 0 is perforated at i, Fig. 1, and the frame is secured to the standard by a bolt, j, passing through the standard and through hole t, as shown in Fig. 3.
I claim as my invention- 1. The above-described harrow attachment for cultivators, consisting of the triangular frame 0, having the socket d, arms e, g, and h, and harrow-teeth A, B, and C, all combined in the manner specified.
2. The combination, with a plow-standard, of frame 0, having inclined socket d, arms 6, g, and h, and barrow-teeth secured thereto, all substantially as and for the purpose specified. 4
CALVIN R. DAVIS.
