corporation of Delaware Filed Jan. 5, 1962, Ser. No. 164,445 Claims priority, application France Jan. 17, 1961 3 Claims. (Cl. 287-14) This invention relates to devices for fixing an antenna rod on a rod-shaped or tubular support.
An object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, rapid mounting and easy dismounting of an antenna and fastener or clamp in which the antenna can be brought into a position parallel to and in engagement with the support for transport purposes.
In order that the invention may readily be carried into effect it will now be described, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing.
FIGURE 1 shows the fixation of an antenna and support rod fastened according to the invention in the operative position.
FIGURE 2 shows the antenna rod in the position for transport.

An antenna element 3 which may be mounted on a supporting rod 4 with the aid of the fastening means according to the invention has for this purpose a central portion 5 of reduced diameter. The fastener comprises an arched clamping plate 1 of sheet metal having an arcuate grooved portion 6 for reception of the element 3 and a lug 7 projecting from lip 1a of plate 1 which engage the reduced portion 5 of elements in mounting the assembly. The other member of the fastener comprises a U- shaped supporting plate 2, of sheet metal or the like,
having recesses 8 and 9 of a substantially semi-circular shape in its leg portions to enable it to engage a pole or rod 4. Apertures 10, 11 and 12 of supporting plate 2 are located in the bend of the U in which the lug 7 may engage at will. The aperture 10 receives the lug 7 in the operating position of antenna element of FIGURE 1 and the upright or flared edge 10a of aperture 10 engages in the recess portion 5 of the antenna element 3. Each of the apertures 11 and 12 serves merely for positioning the parts for transport purposes (FIGURE 2). The supporting plate 2 also has a matching arcuate groove and a bore 13. The bore 13 corresponds with holes in rod 4 and a threaded bore 14 in plate 1 (or even simpler an aperture drilled out widely on which a threaded nut 15 is soldered) so that a bolt may be passed through the assembly and the antenna element rigidly secured on rod 4 in the position of FIGURE 1.
For transportation of a television antenna in which each antenna rod has been mounted in the described manner, the rear nut, for example winged nut (not shown), for
each antenna element is slightly unscrewed so that the rod' can be turned and drawn downwards to a fiid fifiz Patented Sept. 22, 1864 greater or lesser extent, as shown in FIGURE 2 and again tightened. The antenna element may otherwise have an abutment at each end, preferably in the form of a thickened part.
It will be evident that the manufacturer can thus dispatch premounted antennas in a compact way, while final mounting at the place of destination may be carried out in a simple and rapid manner by operations in the reverse sense.
What is claimed is:
1. A fastening device for securing antenna elements on a pole comprising a generally Ushaped supporting plate, said plate having a semi-circular recess in each leg thereof for encircling a pole and a transverse arcuate groove extending across the bight of said U-shaped plate parallel to and between said legs, and a plurality of spaced apertures in said bight; a clamping plate having an arcuate groove defined by a lip substantially matching the arcuate groove of said supporting plate and defining a passage for receiving an antenna element between said clamping and supporting plates, the lip of said clamping plate which defines said arcuate groove having a lug projecting therefrom, said lug being receivable in one of said spaced apertures for positioning said clamping plate relative to said supporting plate in an operative position and an inoperative position, and means for bolting said plates together and adapted to secure said fastening device to a pole.

The combination comprising an antenna element and a fastening device for supporting said element on a pole; said antenna element having a central portion of reduced diameter, said fastening device including a supporting member and a clamping member, said supporting member comprising a generally U-shaped supporting plate, said plate having a semi-circular recess in each leg thereof for encircling a pole and a transverse arcuate groove extending across the bight of said lU-shaped plate parallel to and between said legs, and a plurality of spaced apertures in said bight, at least one of said apertures being located centrally of said supporting plate in said arcuate groove; said clamping member comprising a clamping plate having an arcuate groove substantially matching the arcuate groove of said supporting plate and defining a passage for receiving said antenna element between said clamping and supporting plates, the lip of said clamping plate which defines said arcuate groove having a lug projecting therefrom and curved thereunder, said lug being receivable in said one of said spaced apertures in the operating position of said antenna element and curved to substantially the curvature of said reduced diameter of the antenna element, and adapted to engage said reduced diameter, said lug being receivable in another of said spaced apertures in an inoperative collapsed position of said antenna element, and means for bolting said plates together and adapted to secure said fastening device to a pole.
3. A fastening device according to the combination of claim, 2 with the addition of a flared edge on said supporting plate, said flared edge projecting into said one of said spaced apertures.

Claims (1)
1. A FASTENING DEVICE FOR SECURING ANTENNA ELEMENTS ON A POLE COMPRISING A GENERALLY U-SHAPED SUPPORTING PLATE, SAID PLATE HAVING A SEMI-CIRCULAR RECESS IN EACH LEG THEREOF FOR ENCIRCLING A POLE AND A TRANSVERSE ARCUATE GROOVE EXTENDING ACROSS THE BIGHT OF SAID U-SHAPE PLATE PARALLEL TO AND BETWEEN SAID LEGS, AND A PLURALITY OF SPACED APERTURES IN SAID BIGHT; A CLAMPING PLATE HAVING AN ARCUATE GROOVE DEFINED BY A LIP SUBSTANTIALLY MATCHING THE ARCUATE GROOVE OF SAID SUPPORTING PLATE AND DEFINING A PASSAGE FOR RECEIVING AN ANTENNA ELEMENT BETWEEN SAID CLAMPING AND SUPPORTING PLATES, THE LIP OF SAID CLAMPING PLATE WHICH DEFINES SAID ARCUATE GROOVE HAVING A LUG PROJECTING THERE-
