CONVEYER FOR COAL-CARTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,869. dated March 31,- 1885.

To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. NAYLOR, of Baltimore city, State of Maryland, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Conveyers for Goal-Carts, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view with the body of the cart removed. Fig. 2 is a rear end view, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation, of the conveyer. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of my device with the body of the cart thereon, and Fig. 5 is an end view of Fig. 4.

My invention relates to an improved coalconveyer for carts, dumping-wagons, 817C.
The object of my improvement is to facilitate the placing of coal into cellars, and to overcome the difficulties heretofore experienced in elevating the body of the cart with the full load of coal therein, my invention obviating entirely the raising of the cart; and it consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter explained.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A is the frame; A, a stationary rod running from front to rear. A is a square rod, also running parallel with rod A, both being journaled in the front and rear ends of the cart. Rod A has near its rear end and on the inside of the frame A a gear-wheel, B, rigidly affixed thereto, gearing into still another gearwheel, B, on the end of ashaft, Bflwhich extends through two supports,b b, the said shaft extending through the side of frame A, upon the end of which is a crank, b.
O is a cross-beam through which rods A A pass, the square rod A revolving in its respective ends of said cross-beam O by means of a spool (not shown) revolving in cylindrical holes cut therein, the said spools having a square hole cut therein to admit of the square rod A resting firmly therein.
0 is a gear-wheel with a square hole in its center, through which the square rod A passes, and by which the said gear-wheel U is revolved.
C is still another gear-wheel, gearing into gear-wheel C, from which it receives its m0- mentum. This gear-wheel G has also a square hole in its center through which passes the square end of rod 0 from which it receives its rotating power. The outer end of rod 0 is loosely journaled in the outside of slot c,cut in the cross-bealnC, while the other portion passes loosely through a hole cut in the inside of cross-beam O as well as a hole in the brace 0. Rod (3 has at its inner end a semicircular opening into which loosely fits the head of another rod,D, rigidly pinned therein by any well-known means, preferably the one shown.
Around rod D is rigidly aflixed a wormscrew, D, which rests in a semicircular bedplate, D On the outer end of rod D is ailixed an extension, d, for purposes hereinafter explained. The semicircular bed-plate D is rigidly affixed to the under side of cross-beam G at one end, while the outer end passes through proper slides affixed rigidly to the under side of the frame A at its rear end; or it may be arranged by resting in a skeleton frame, E, as seen in Fig. 2, or in any well known manner, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The operation of my device may be described as follows: The cart-body having a central sliding board or any other well-known means to let the coal fall through its center into the conveyer, and being placed upon the frame A, and itbeing desired to unload the coal, the conveyer is slid along upon rods A A until it reaches the cellardoor. The opening in the cart-floor above referredto is then opened, when the coal will of itself fall through into the conveyer D, lying underneath thereof, when the crank bis revolved by the operator, which causes the gear-wheels B B to revolve, thereby revolving the square rod Aflwhich in turn revolves gear-wheel G, which also revolves gear-wheel G which revolves the rod 0 thereby causing the rod D with its wormscrew D to revolve rapidly, so that the coal, falling into the conveyer D", is ejected from the conveyer with such great velocity that the time occupied in unloading the cart is not to be at all compared with the time consumed in hoisting the body of carts whose bodies have to be first raised and the coal then dumped into the chute.
