BALE=EJECTOR FOR BALlNG-PRESSES.
$PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 31%,523, dated March Application filed August 27, I884. No model.)
T all whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN LUM DUVA-L, of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bale-Ejectorsfor BalingPresses, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front elevation of the head block and follower of a baling-press. Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the broken line m m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional end elevation of the upper part of the follower enlarged, and showing in side elevation a truck in its channel. Fig. 4 is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the broken line 3 y, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the truck.
The object of this invention is to provide a mechanism for attachment to baling-presses provided with a follower moving upward to compress the bale, for removing the bale from the press, and operated by the movement of the follower as it moves downward with the compressed bale.
The invention consists in the combination, with a baling-press follower having channels with inclines and recesses at their rear ends, of trucks provided with ropes or chains, pulleys, pulley-segments having arms, and sta tionary arms for drawing the trucks forward, and with ropes or chains, pulleys, and weights for drawing the trucks rearward. The trucks have recesses with inclined shoulders in their sides to receive prongs having front and rear shoulders, and attached to pins pivoted to the said trucks, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the head-block, and B the follower, of a balingprcss, about the construction and operation of which there is nothing new.
0 represents the rods connecting the follower B with the power by which it is operated.
In the top of the follower B, at ,the bottom of two or more of the grooves for the balebands, are formed channels D to receive the trucks E.
In the bottoms of the channels D, at the rear side of the follower B, are formed recesses F to receive the trucks E, and from which inclines G lead to the bottoms of the said chan nels D. The recesses F are made of such a depth that when the trucks E are in them the points of the prongs H will be below the bot; toms of the channels D, so that they will not come in contact with the covering of the bale. The prongs H are placed in recesses I in the sides of the trucks E, and are attached to the ends of rods J, passing through and pivoted in the said trucks. with inclined shoulders K at their rear sides, for the rear shoulders L of the prongs H to rest against when the points of the said prongs are raised, and with inclined shoulders M at their forward sides for the forward shoulders N of the said prongs to rest against when the said prongs are lowered. The shoulders K L are so formed that the prongs H, when raised, will stand at an angle of about forty-five degrees, as shown in Fig. 3, and the shoulders M N are so formed that when the prongs H are lowered their points will rise a little above the tops of the trucks E, as shown in Fig. 2.
To the forward ends of the trucks E are attached,byscrew-eyes O or other suitable means, the ends of chains or wire ropes P, which pass forward along the channels D, pass over guide-pulleys Q, pivoted to supports attached to the forward side of the follower, and are attached at their lower ends to the lower corners of the segments B of grooved pulleys pivoted to the said forward side of the follower B. The segments R are provided with arms S to engage with stationary arms or toes T, attached to posts U, forming apart of support to platform or door in front of press.
To the rear ends of the trucks E are attached, by screw-eyes V or other suitable means, the ends of chains or wire ropes XV, which pass over guide-pulleys X, pivoted to supports attached to the rear side of the follower B, and to their other ends are attached weights Y, of suflicient gravity to draw the trucks E back to the recesses F when the bale has been discharged. The lower sides of the forward ends of the trucks E are beveled, as shown in Fig. 3, so that the said trucks when drawn forward will readily pass up the in The recesses I are made clines G, and the said trucks may be mounted upon small wheels or rollers, if desired, to cause them to move with less friction than when they slide through the channels D. \Vith thisconstruction, as the follower B moves upward in compressing a bale the upper sides of the arms S strike against the lower sides of the arms T, which swings the segments R upward until the arms S have passed the arms T, when the said segments drop back into their former positions.
When the bale has been compressed and bound, and the follower B begins to move downward, the arms S strike the arms T, which swings the segments R downward, and causes the ropes or chains P to draw the trucks E forward. As the trucks E move up the inclines G to the bottom of the channel D, the points of the prongs H strike the bale, are turned upward into the position shown in Fig. 3, and then carry the bale forward until it projects so far in front of the press as to overbalance and fall to the floor. When the follower has moved so far down that the arms S leave the arms T, the trucks E are drawn back to the recesses F by the weights Y, and the follower is ready to press another bale. The lower sides of the forward ends of the trucks E are beveled, to cause them to pass up the inclines G readily.
If desired, the trucks E can be provided with small wheels or rollers to lessen the friction as they move back and forth.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination, with the follower B of a baling-press, having channels D, recesses F, and inclines G, of the trucks E, having prongs H, and an operating mechanism, substantially as herein shown and described, whereby the compressed bale will be removed from the press, as set forth. v
2. The combination, with the follower B of a baling-press, having channels D, recesses F, and inclines G, of the trucks E, the ropes or chains 1?, pulleys Q. segments R, having arms S, the stationary arms T, and the ropes or chains W, pulleys X, and weights Y, substantially as herein shown and described,whereby the said trucks will be operated from the movements of the said follower, as set forth.
3. In a bale-ejector for ba ling-presses, the trucks E, constructed, substantially as herein shown and described, with recesses I, having inclined shoulders K M, and provided with the rod J, and the prongs H, having shoulders L M, as set forth.
