(Cl. 340-321) This invention relates generally to service type hats, such as for remen and policemen and the like and more particularly to providing sirens and ashers thereto.

While the present invention is particularly adapted to such devices embodied with the general category of toys, it should be readily visualized that such devices can lind great utility as emergency equipment. n

Accordingly, an object of the present invention lis to provide a service hat with operating alarm mechanisms.

Another object of the present invention is to provide the foregoing which is of rugged construction and is light weight and uncumbersome. u

Still, another object of the present invention .is to provide the foregoing wherein the service hat is readily removable.

And still, another object of the present invention is to provide the foregoing wherein a small power pack' is carried remote from the hat for powering and controlling the alarms.

The foregoing and other objects and advantages will be more clearly understood by referring to the following description and the accompanying drawings wherein:

While the present invention is illustrated and described in combination with a iremans hat, it should be understood that this is but one embodiment thereofand it 1s not intended to define the limits of the present invention. Referring now to the drawings and particularly to'FIG- URE l, a iiremans hat 10 has a siren 11 mounted in the front portion thereof and a lamp base 13 on the top which supports a bulb 12 within a colored doine 14. A socket 15 is xed to the hat 10 and is electrically connected to the siren 11 and bulb 12 as is shown in FIG- URE 2.

As shown in FIGURE 2, a common ground line 16 from socket 15 is connected to both siren 11 and lamp 12.

Hot wires

17 and 18 are connected to siren 11 and lamp 12, respectively, from the same socket. Thus., by lenergizing wire 17, wire 16 will complete an electrical circuit for operating alarm 11 when a source of power. and ground are connected to socket 15. Bulb 12 .is similarly lit. A plug 19 of a power pack 20 is provided to cooperate with socket 15 to provide energy to the alarms.

Power pack 20 has a storage base 30 as will be further ICC discussed, and a head 21 with three

contacts

22, 23, and 25. Contact 22 is the ground contact and is connected to plug 19 by wire 16a. Contacts 23 and 25 are hot contacts and are connected to plug 19 by

17a and 18a, respectively. Thus, socket 15 and plug 19 connect

16a, 17a, and 18a, respectively. Contact 23 is provided with a push button operator 24 while contact 25 is provided with an operator 26 mounted on a pivot 27.

The storage portion 30 of power pack 20 has a ground contact 31 at its top that always makes connection with contact 22 when the head 21 is connected to the pack. A buss bar 32 is disposed adjacent contact 31 and is contacted by contact 23 by depressing button 24 thus forming a normally open switch. Contact 25 and buss bar 32 also form a normally open switch which can be held closed by pivoting operator 26. A pair of batteries 33 are connected in series by a connector 34 between the contact 31 and buss bar 32, in the storage pack portion 30. Conventional connecting means such as the connector 35 is provided to couple head 21 to the storage portion 30. Storage portion 30 also has a front panel 36 connected to the pack by a hinge 37, and a clip 38 fixed to panel 36 provides means for hanging the power pack 20 to a users garments. A conventional flasher (not shown) may be provided in the lamp base 13, in the power pack 2t) or in the connection formed by the socket 15 and plug 19.

While certain novel features of my invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claims, it will be understood that various omissions, substitutions arid changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. In combination with a service type hat, a lamp connected to the hat, a siren connected to the hat, a power pack disposed remote from the hat and having a source of electricity for energizing the lamp and the siren, wires connecting the source of electrical energy to the lamp and the siren providing a pair of open interlocked circuits, the power pack having a pair of open switches each connected in one of the circuits, and means for manually closing each of the switches for energizing the lamp and the siren.

2. The combination in accordance with claim l and a plug and socket being connected in the wires to detachably connect the hat to the power pack.

3. The combination in accordance with claim 2 wherein the wires provide a common ground line for both the lamp and the siren and individual hot lines to the lamp and to the siren.

4. The combination in accordance with claim 3 wherein the power pack has a storage portion for holding and connecting batteries in series, and a head portion with the open switches connected to the storage portion.

5. The combination in accordance with claim 4 and the power pack having a clip for connection to garments of a user of ythe hat that is remote from the hat when worn.

Claims

1. IN COMBINATION WITH A SERVICE TYPE HAT, A LAMP CONNECTED TO THE HAT, A SIREN CONNECTED TO THE HAT, A POWER PACK DISPOSED REMOTE FROM THE HAT AND HAVING A SOURCE OF ELECTRICITY FOR ENERGIZING THE LAMP AND THE SIREN, WIRES CONNECTING THE SOURCE OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY TO THE LAMP AND THE SIREN PROVIDING A PAIR OF OPEN INTERLOCKED CIRCUITS, THE POWER PACK HAVING A PAIR OF OPEN SWITCHES EACH CONNECTED IN ONE OF THE CIRCUITS, AND MEANS FOR MANUALLY CLOSING EACH OF THE SWITCHES FOR ENERGIZING THE LAMP AND THE SIREN.
