Description

y 21, 1964 CARL-ANKER MEJYR 3,141,473
CONNECTION MEANS FOR GAS HOSES Filed Jan. 15, 1965 FIG. 3 l9 so '2 INVENTOR CARL-ANKER MEJYR ATTORNEY5 United States Patent 3,141,473 CQNNECTING MEANS FOR GAS HOSES Carl-Anker Mejyr, Flen, Sweden, assignor to Aktiebolaget Bahco, Stockholm, Sweden, a corporation of Sweden Filed Jan. 15, 1263, Ser. No. 251,520 2 Claims. (Cl. 137322) The present invention relates to a connecting means for connecting one end of a gas hose to a fuel container containing a combustible gas compressed into liquid phase. The invention is mainly intended to be used for such gas stoves in which the burner head or heads are accommodated within a box and adapted to be connected to the gas container by means of a hose one end of which is adapted to be detachably connected to the gas container Whereas the other end is connected to the burner head or heads by means of a threaded connection or alternatively is permanently connected thereto.
Hitherto it has been necessary for such a connection of the hose to the gas stove that the gas container is turned around which involves a rather difiicult manipulation, esspecially if the container is large.
The object of the present invention is to avoid this difficulty and the connecting means is according to the invention substantially characterized in that it consists of a ring member to which one end of the hose is connected and which is rotatably mounted on a connecting stud which can be screwed into the outlet of the container, said stud being provided with a spindle which is locked in axial direction but is rotatable independently of the stud by means of a handle, the lower end of said spindle being screwed into a slide displaceable only in an axial direction and adapted to actuate and open a closing valve in the gas container during a downward displacement of the same, and in that channels are provided between the slide and the inner side of the stud and between the outer side of the stud and the ring member connected to the hose which channels are sealed towards the atmosphere and when the container-valve is opened allow the gas to flow from the gas container to the hose via a bore or opening in the wall of the ring member.
It is suitable that the ring member at its upper and lower edges is provided with sealing rings which are intended to be compressed when the connecting stud is screwed into the container in order to seal against the ring member as well as against the connecting stud and the container.
The invention will be further described in the following in connection to the attached drawing.
FIG. 1 shows in perspective view a gas stove which communicates with a gas container through a hose connected to the gas container by the aid of a connecting means according to the invention.
FIG. 2 shows the connecting means in a larger scale and partly in section.
FIG. 3 shows the connecting means in vertical section.
In FIG. 1 there is shown a gas stove made as a camping stove of the kind in which the burner heads 11 and 12 are placed within a box 13 with a cover and connected to the gas container 14 by means of a hose 15 one end of which is disconnected from the gas container 14 in the storage position of the stove. The other end of the hose 15 is connected to the burner heads by means of "ice a threaded connection or alternatively permanently con nected thereto, as the invention is of most importance especially in combination with such hose connections.
The connecting means according to the invention comprises, as best seen from FIGS. 2 and 3, a ring member 16 to which one end of the hose 15 is connected and which is rotatably mounted on a connecting stud 17 intended to be screwed into the outlet of the gas container. This connecting stud 17 is provided with a finger grip 18 at its upper end in order to make it possible to screw the lower threaded end 19 of the stud into the outlet of the gas container 14. The outer diameter of the stud 17 is somewhat smaller than the inner diameter of the ring member 16 so that a small annular clearance 20 is formed between them, which clearance is sealed towards the atmosphere by means of sealing rings 21 and 22 at the upper and lower edges of the ring member 16. The ring member is further provided with a radial bore or channel 23 by means of which the clearance 20 communicates with the hose 15.
A spindle 24 the upper end of which is provided with a handle 25 is arranged within the stud 17 and is prevented from axial displacement therein by means of a locking ball 26 in a radial bore 27 in the stud 17 and cooperating with an annular groove 28 in the spindle. The lower threaded end of the spindle 24 is screwed into a nonturnable but axially displaceable slide 29 which has square or any other suitable cross-section and is guided in a channel in the stud, said channel having substantially the same cross-section as the slide, so that the slide can be moved upwardly and downwardly respectively dependent on the direction in which the spindle 24 is turned.
In its lower position the slide 29 acts on the valve spindle of a valve (not shown) in the outlet of the container so that this valve is opened. Also between the slide 29 and the inner side of the stud there is a clearance 30 which allows the gas to flow to the interior of the stud 17 and therefrom through the bore 23 to the hose. Stud 17 is provided with an internal sealing ring 31 which seals the interior of the stud towards the atmosphere and with an external sealing ring 32. When the connecting means is attached to the gas container the sealing ring 22 is pressed against the upper side of a collar provided around the outlet of the gas container whereby this sealing ring 22 as well as the sealing ring 21 are axially compressed so that the circumferential surfaces of the rings seal against the outer side of the connecting stud 17 as Well as against the ring member 16.
Several modifications and detail changes can be made Within the scope of the invention.
I claim:
1. Connecting means connecting one end of a gas hose to a fuel container containing a combustible gas compressed into liquid phase, characterized in that said connecting means consists of a ring member to which one end of the hose is connected and which is rotatably mounted on a connecting stud which can be screwed into the outlet of the container, said stud being provided with a spindle which is locked in axial direction but is rotatable independently of the stud by means of a handle, the lower end of said spindle being screwed into a slide displaceable only in an axial direction and adapted to actuate and open a closing valve in the gas container during a downward displacement of the same, and in that channels are provided between the slide and the inner side of the stud and between the outer side of the stud and the ring member connected to the hose which channels are sealed towards the atmosphere and when the container-valve is opened allow the gas to flow from the gas container to the hose via a bore or opening in the Wall of the ring membet.
2. Connecting means according to claim 1, characterized in that the ring member at its upper and lower edges is provided with sealing rings which are intended to be References Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS Brotz July 24, 1928 Barker Nov. 7, 1961
