Filed Oct. 23, 1961, Ser. No. 146,933 8 Claims. (Cl. 101-407) This invention relates to an improved fixture and guide means for a roll leaf hot stamping machine.
It is an object of this invention to provide a cushion means for a roll leaf hot stamping machine for marking a roll of soft material such as paper, ribbon, plastic tape, or the like in the shape of a narrow strip or band to compensate for irregularities in the material or type.

' It is still a further object of this invention to provide a device wherein the material to be marked and the marking foil are readily reeved and guided during stamping operations in accurate alignment with the marking type in the heated type head of the roll leaf hot stamping machine.

Patented June 2, 1964 therethrough. This tape further seats in the upper portion of channel 28 which functions as a guide therefor.
A foil guide is mounted upon either side of master fixture and is formed by a pin 42 supported between brackets 44 and 46 in turn held by screws 48 which screw into holes 50 in master fixture 10. The foil 52 of the hot stamping machine is reeved through these guides.
FIGURE 4 is a view taken along line 4-.-4 of FIG- AURE 2.
This device is designed for use in a hot roll leaf stamping machine as illustrated for example in my Patent No. 2,517,493 issued August 1, 1950, and in the adoption of that machine to mark tape and the like, as described in my co-pending application Serial No. 652,985 filed April 15, 1957, now U.S. Patent No. 3,008,866. Generally, the device embodying this invention includes a master holding fixture 10 having holes 12 therethrough at the'corners thereof to permit same to be secured by screws 14 to the bed 16 of a stamping, machine 18.
A channel 20 is formed in the upper surface of fixture 10 and has one extremity thereof blocked by plate 22 fixed to member 10. The individual fixture 24 is machined to slide into channel 20 and abut plate 22, being locked into place by set screw 26.
The upper surface of fixture 24 has a channel 28 t I 7 formed .therein, into which the cushion 30 snugly fits.
The cushion is formed of a suitable resilient material A such as rubber and has a thickness less than the depth I marked.
In operation, an individual fixture 24 is selected having a channel of the same width as the tape or the like to be marked and is inserted into master fixture 10 and secured by set screw. 26. The material 40 to be marked is reeved through hold down strips- 32 and 'then foil 52 reeved through guides formed by pins 42. The stamping machine is then operated to place the desired' markings on the tape as same is pulled through the fixture.
While what hereinbefore has been described is the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is readily apparent'that alterations and modifications can 'be re sorted to without departing from the scope of this invention, and such alterations and modifications are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A fixture and guide for a roll-leaf hot stamping machine adapted to mark a continuous strip of material, 7
comprising a master fixture having a channel therein, an individual fixture insertable into the channel of said master fixture and having a channel therein, a resilient cushion within said individual fixture channel upon which said continuous strip to be marked is supported, hold down plates affixed to said master fixture adjacent to each extremity of the channel therein.
2. A fixture and guide for a roll-leaf hot stamping machine adapted to mark a continuous strip of material, comprising a master fixture having a channel therein, an individual fixture insertable into the channel of said master. fixture and having a channel therein, a resilient cushion within said individual fixture channel upon which said continuous strip to be marked is supported, hold down plates affixed to said master fixture adjacent to each extremity of the channel therein, said cushion being of less thickness than the depth of the channel in said individual fixture.
3. A fixture and guide for a roll-leaf hot stamping machine adapted to mark a continuous strip of material,
- comprising a master fixture having a channel therein, an individual fixture insertable into the channel of said The individual fixtures 24 vary to fit difierent widths of tape or other strip material to be marked by varying the width of channel 28 and the width of cushion insert 30. A fixture and guide for a roll-leaf hot stamping machine adapted to mark a continuous strip of material, comprising a master fixture having a channel therein, an individual fixture insertable into the channel of said master fixture and having a channel therein, a resilient individual fixture, a pair of foil guides on said master I fixture at either side of the channel therein.
8. A fixture and guide for a roll-leaf stamping machine adapted to mark a continuous strip of material,

Claims (1)

1. A FIXTURE AND GUIDE FOR A ROLL-LEAF HOT STAMPING MACHINE ADAPTED TO MARK A CONTINUOUS STRIP OF MATERIAL, COMPRISING A MASTER FIXTURE HAVING A CHANNEL THEREIN, AN INDIVIDUAL FIXTURE INSERTABLE INTO THE CHANNEL OF SAID MASTER FIXTURE AND HAVING A CHANNEL THEREIN, A RESILIENT CUSHION WITHIN SAID INDIVIDUAL FIXTURE CHANNEL UPON WHICH SAID CONTINUOUS STRIP TO BE MARKED IS SUPPORTED, HOLD DOWN PLATES AFFIXED TO SAID MASTER FIXTURE ADJACENT TO EACH EXTREMITY OF THE CHANNEL THEREIN.
