` UNITED STATES' PATENT rrrcn.
A. Z'. MOBRIDE, OF STEVART COUNTY, GEORGIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTONPRESSES.
{Speciication forming part ofLetlers Patent No. 3L323, dated February 1861.
T0 all whom t may concern:
, Be it known that I, ANDREW Z. MOBRIDE, in the county of Stewart and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement on a Machine for Packing Cotton; and -I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ofthe same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Y Figure l is a perspective view of one ofthe eottonboxes. Fig. 2 is another box. Fig. 3 stands immediately over the third box. Fig. 4C represents the fourth box, over which it is placed. Figs. 5 and 6 are short posts at the ends of the boxes. Figs. 7 and 8 are views of four upright posts supporting the cap-piece, through which the screw passes. Figs. 10 and l1 represent the two follow-blocks. Fig. 13 is a cap or top piece supported by the four posts shown by Figs. 7 and S. Figs. 15 and 16 show a view of the lever, which is placed To enable others skilledvin the art to make` and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my cotton-press in any of the known forms, iirst, by having two hewn sills placed at the bottom for a foundation. At or near the end of these two sills there are posts standing upright and securing the ends of each box, four extending upward to a sufficient height to support the cap-piece,through which the screw passes. Above in the center there is a stationary post, on which the screw stands and revolves when turned by the lever. The screw is of wrought-iron or cast, and also the tap, the tap being of a horizontal form extending downward, and at the ends ofthe arms the follow-blocks are fastened, so that when the screw revolves thetap moves up or down, thus forcing the follow-blocks in or out of the boxes.
Vhat IA claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the screw and tap A with its follow-blockslO and 1l, when constructed and operated substantially as described.
his A Z. MCBRIDE.
