(Cl. 2--150) This invention relates to four-in-hand type neckties, and more particularly to four-in-hand ties having preformed knot portions and which can be quickly fitted and removed from the neck of the wearer.

In the prior art there are many four-in-hand type neckties having performed knots generally simil-ar in type with that which the present invention is concerned. However, the various neckties disclosed therein involve an assortment of complicated constructions which have been found to be unsatisfactory either from an appearance or a manufacturing point of view.

It is accordingly the general object of this invention to provide a novel four-in-hand neckties having a preformed knot portion.

Another object of this invention is to provide a novel four-in-hand type neckties having a preformed knot portion which can be quickly fitted and removed from underneath the collar of the wearer.

A further object of this invention is to provide a novel four-in-hand type necktie having a preformed knot portion which can vbe adjusted to the neck size of the wearer.

A still further object of this invention is to provide a novel four-in-hand type of necktie having a preformed knot portion which gives the appearance of a conventionally formed four-in-hand type necktie.

Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent to those skilled in the art from the following description `when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Briefly stated, the present invention provides a novel preformed necktie comprising a preformed knot portion having an opening extending therethrough, a relatively wide tie portion attached to and depending from the front side of the knot portion and a relatively narrow tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the opening in the knot portion underlying the wide tie portion. The neck embracing loop of the narrow tie portion is adapted to be fitted around the neck and under the collar of the wearer and is provided with a means for enlarging and diminishing the size thereof to permit the loop to be iitted over the head of the wearer and also to permit adjustment of the loop to the neck of the wearer.

Referring to the drawing, there is shown a necktie 2 formed from a suitable fabric comprising a knot portion 4, a relatively wide front tie portion 6 and a relatively narrow rear tie portion 8, having a neck embracing loop lil. The knot portion 4 can be formed in any desirable shape in conformance with preference or the current Vfashion, and is provided with a vertical opening 12 therethrough.

Attached to the inner front surface of the knot portion ice 4 and depending therefrom as in a conventional arrangement is a relatively wide front tie portion 6. The front tie portion 6 is preferably made of the same fabric as the knot portion, having any suitable design, and can also be formed as Ian integral depending member of the knot portion.

The relatively narrow rear tie portion 8 having the upper end thereof formed into a loop 1t) extends through opening 12 in the knot portion 4, so that the lower end thereof normally underlies the front tie portion 6 and the upper end of the loop extends above the knot portion. The loop is provided with any suitable means for enlarging and diminishing the size thereof. Preferably, as shown in the drawing, a slide fastener 14 is used. Preferably, the camming member 24 is secured to or supports the knot portion in any suitable manner. As best shown in FIGURES 2, 4 and 5, the camming member is attached to the inner back surface of th-e knot portion and is provided with a pivotally connected gripping tab 26, which extends through an opening 2S in the rear of the knot portion. It further will be appreciated that other means can be employed to secure or -support the knot portion on the rear tie portion. The knot portion can be formed tightly so that it will be prevented from slipping down, due to the friction action between the engageable surfaces of the knot portion and the rear tie portion. Also, the camming member 24 can be provided with a rearwardly and upwardly extending projection 25 which would be adapted to engage the lower rear edge of the knot portion to support the same, as shown .in FIGURE 6.

To wear the specific embodiment of the present invention, as shown in the drawing, the loop is enlarged by holding the loop with one hand and grasping and pulling the gripping tab of the camniing member downwardly. The enlarged loop is then fitted over the head of the wearer and moved downwardly so that the loop fits loosely `about the neck of the wearer, and the wide tie portion lies forwardly relative to the narrow tie portion. The loop is then fitted under the collar of the wearer and the necktie is pulled forwardly and downwardly so that the upper part of the loop rests against the back of the wearers neck.

With the necktie in the position as described, the lower end of the rear tie portion is pulled downwardly and held by one hand while the wearer grasps the gripping tab or the knot portion and pulls its upwardly, causing the camming member to interlock the rows of interlocking members. As the knot portion approaches the front of the neck of the wearer, the knot portion is fitted under the collar and the size of the neck embracing loop is adjusted to the desired amount of tightness.

To remove the necktie requires essentially the reverse of the operation described above. The knot portion is pulled downwardly, opening the slide fastener, and enlarging the neck embracing loop. The loop is then removed over the head of the wearer.

The novel necktie of the present invention provides not only a necktie having an authentic appearance of a conventionally tied necktie, but further provides a necktie which can be quickly and easily fitted and removed from the neck of the wearer.

From the foregoing detailed description, it will be evident that there are a number of changes, adaptations, and modifications of the present invention which come within the province of those skilled in the art. However, it is intended that all such variations not departing from the spirit of the invention, be considered as within the scope thereof as limited solely by the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A necktie comprising a knot portion having an opening therethrough, a first tie portion secured to the knot portion,ra second tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the opening in the knot portion, the lower inside edges of the neck embracing loop of the second tie portion having interlocking means, camming means operatively mounted on the interlocking means for interlocking and unlocking the same to vary the sizeof the `loop and the camming means being secured to the knot portion.

2. A necktie comprising a knot portion having an opening therethrough, a lirst tie portion secured to the knot portion, a second tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the opening in the knot portion, the neck embracing loop having interlocking means, cam'- ming means slidably mounted on the interlocking means for interlocking and unlocking the same to vary the size of the loop and the camming means having a support means for supporting the knot portion.

3. A necktie comprising a knot portion having a rst opening therethrough, a rst tie portion secured to the knot portion, a second tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the rst opening in the knot portion, the lower inside edges of the loop of the second tie portion having interlocking means, camming means slidably mounted on the interlocking means for interlocking and unlocking the same to vary the size of the loop, the camming means being secured to the knot portion and having a tab extending rearwardly through a second opening in the knot portion.

A necktie comprising a knot portion having an opening therethrough defining front and back parts, a relatively wide tie portion secured to the front part of the knot portion and depending therefrom, a relatively narrow tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the opening in the knot portion, the lower opposed edges of the neck embracing loop of the narrow tie portion having interlocking means, camming means slidably mounted on the interlocking means for interlocking and unlocking the same to vary the size of the loop, and the camming means being secured to the inner surface of the back part of the knot portion.

5. A necktie comprising a knot portion having an opening therethrough dning front and back parts, a relatively wide tie portion secured to and depending from the inside surface of the front part of the knot portion, a relatively narrow tie portion having a neck embracing loop, extending through the opening in the knot portion, the lower inside edges of the neck embracing loop of the narrow tie portion having interlocking means, camming means slidably mounted on the interlocking means for interlocking and unlocking the same to vary the size of the loop and the camming means being secured to the inside surface of the Vback part of the knot portion and having a gripping tab extending through an opening in the back part of the knot portion.

Claims

1. A NECKTIE COMPRISING A KNOT PORTION HAVING AN OPENING THERETHROUGH, A FIRST TIE PORTION SECURED TO THE KNOT PORTION, A SECOND TIE PORTION HAVING A NECK EMBRACING LOOP, EXTENDING THROUGH THE OPENING IN THE KNOT PORTION, THE LOWER INSIDE EDGES OF THE NECK EMBRACING LOOP OF THE SECOND TIE PORTION HAVING INTERLOCKING MEANS, CAMMING MEANS OPERATIVELY MOUNTED ON THE INTERLOCKING MEANS FOR INTERLOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE SAME TO VARY THE SIZE OF THE LOOP AND THE CAMMING MEANS BEING SECURED TO THE KNOT PORTION.
