CURTAIN-FIXTURE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.312,532, dated February 17, 1885.

.To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that L'PETER Von LACKUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waterloo, in the county of Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Gurtain-Fixtures,of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front view of my improved curtaiufixture. Figs. 2, 3, and 4 are details to be referred to.

This invention relates to curtain-fixtures; and it consists in certain improvements in the arrangement and construction of the same, all of which will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe the exact manner in which I'have carried it out.

In the drawings, A represents a metallic strip secured to the window-frame by screws or any other well-known means; and it is provided with a rack adapted to engage a projection formed on a key, for a purpose to be hereinafter explained.

The metallic strip,above referred to is approximately \J shape in cross section. its flaring sides serving as a guide for a sliding block or casting, to be hereinafter referred to.

B represents a sliding block, which is also provided with converging sides, and so constructed in relation to the strip A that its sides partially inclose the sides ofthe strip, which serves as a guide for the vertical adjustment of the block. F represents a flat spring, having one end riveted or otherwise rigidly secured to the sliding block, while its upper or free end is adapted to bear against the arm E, and securely holds the projection 0 within the opening 0 and in contact with the teeth of the rack.

The window-frame is provided on each side with a device similar to that above referred to, and to lower the curtain the operator grasps the handles of the keys, and turning the same he depresses the springs and withdraws the projections e from their contact with the racks, when the curtain can be lowered to any desired position. To again secure the curtain, the operator releases the keys and the springs again throw the projections einto engagement with the racks, thereby forming a substantial and effectual device for securing the curtain, and providing means for the necessary ventilation of the room.

If desirable, I can dispense with the flat spring shown in Fig. 1, and may substitute the device shown in detail in Fig. 4, in which figure a coiled spring, 9, is secured on the key, and is provided with a projecting bent-end, which bears against the projected arm and securely holds the stud projection in engagement with the rack.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

'1. The strip A, /-shaped in cross-section and provided with arack, in combination with a vertically-sliding block having converging sides and bearings for the curtain-roll and keys, and an opening, a, substantially as described.

2. The block B, constructed and arranged as described, in combination with a key provided with an arm, E,and a projection, e, and a spring for holding said arm in contact with the rack, substantially as set forth.
