UNITED STATES PATENT.
ALFRED A. HINDS AND LAMBERT E. MACE, OF LEXINGTON, INDIANA.
PORTABLE CHUTE.
SPECIFICATION forming part. of Letters Patent No. 312,468, dated February 17. 1885.
Application filed January 2, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, A. A. HINDS and L. E. MACE, of Lexington, in the county of Scott and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Chutes; and we dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings. and to the letters of refer- IO ence marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The invention relates to inclined slideways, and is specially adapted to transfer tiles, bricks, orsimilar articles from the dryingsh ed to the -kiln, or from the kiln to the yard. The slidway is made in sections, each of which has its floor composed of rollers having bearings in the sides of the sections. A removable cover or housing may be placed over each sectionto protect the articles passing thereover from the rain. The rear or delivering section of'the slideway is curved and reversible end for end, so as to deliver to either side, as desired. A plane inclined in a reverse direction to the slideway is connected to the rear section, so that the bricks or tiles sliding thereon fromthe rear section may have their momentum gradually lessened and be brought to a stop.
In the drawings forming part of this specificatiouFigure l isaplan view, partly broken away, of my improved chute. Fig. 2isa central vertical section of the same on line 00 m, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on liney g on Fig.
5 2. Fig. 4 is a detail side view.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the slideway composed of any number of similar sections, 13 B, composed of the side beams or strips, 1) b, and the rollers b b, hav- 0 ing opposite bearings in the side beams. The longitudinal sections of the rollers may have any desired contour, but are, preferably, rectangular for the transfer of bricks or similar rectangular articles.
5 O is a removable housing attached to each section by means of the rods 0 and staples G.
The sections are connected at their meeting ends by means of the hooks D on the ends of one section, engaging in the staples d on the 5o-ends of the adjacent sections. The sections are supported by the pivoted legs E, and rendered adjustable in inclination by setting the said legs in positions more or less inclined. The deliveringsection F is made on a curve, and has hooks D at eitherside and capable of engaging staples d on the end of the adjacent section.
G is an inclined plane continuing the slideway, but with a reverse inclination, so that the articles passing from the rear section B will be brought to a stop thereon, as explained. The meeting end of the inclined plane Ur is provided with staples d, which engage with the hooks on the end of the curved section F.. The inclined plane G is provided with proper 6 side strips to prevent articles from sliding off laterally, and is supported upon pivoted legs 9, by means of which its inclination is made adjustable, as shown.
\Nhen it is necessary to alter the inclination of parts, the legs Eand g are always turned in the direction in which they will brace the slideway.
Having described our invention, we claim 1. A slideway for tiles, bricks, or other articles composed of sections coupled end to end by proper devices, and with its rear or delivering section curved and reversible end for end to deliver the articles to either side, substantially as specified. 8o
2. The combination, with an adjustable inclined slideway, of an adjustable plane inclined in an opposite direction to the slideway and attached to its delivering end, in order to gradually lessen the momentum of the articles 8 5 passing thereover and bring them to a stop, substantially as specified.
3. The combination, with the adjustable inclined way A, composed of the sections B, having their floors formed of rollers with oppo- 0 site hearings in their sides, of the removable housing 0, formed in sections and attached to the sections of the slideway by the rods 0 and staples 0", substantially as specified.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing as 5 our own we affix our signaturcsin presence of two witnesses.
