Description
March 10, 1964 A. T. KORNYLAK CONVEYOR FRAME Filed Feb. 10, 1961 INVENTOR. f/70 /n Z7/0/77y/afi.
Zia-E 7* United States Patent Oflice 3,124,239 CONVEYOR FRAME Andrew '1. Kornylak, 4110 Heaton St, Hamilton, Ohio Filed Feb. 10, 1961, Ser. No. 88,434 3 Claims. (Cl. 198-204) This invention relates to a conveyor frame, and more particularly for a frame or guide way for a belt or slat type conveyor.
An object of this invention is to provide a conveyor frame particularly adapted to accommodate a conveyor of the type disclosed in the US. patent application of Andrew T. Kornylak, Serial No. 843,139, filed September 29, 1959, now US. Patent No. 3,082,861.
A principal object of this invention is the provision of a side frame member which when suitably associated with a like member and allochirally arranged constitutes a supporting frame for an endless type conveyor.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a conveyor frame having means for conveniently attaching accessories thereto where desired.
These and other objects will become apparent upon consideration of the following specification, taken with the accompanying drawings which together form a cornplete disclosure of my invention.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a part elevation of one side frame member;
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary section substantially on the line 22 of FIG. 1 and showing portions of a conveyor in position thereon;
FIG. 3 is an axonometric view of a portion of a complete conveyor frame, and
FIG. 4 is a fragmentary axonometric view showing the manner of attaching an accessory to a side frame member.
The complete frame as shown in FIG. 3, comprises a pair of like side frame members 12. The side frame members 12 are identical, and are allochirally arranged, being spaced apart a suitable distance by means of suitable tie bars 14.
Each side frame member 12 comprises a pair of substantially parallel spaced apart channel members 16 which, when arranged as in FIG. 3, to form the complete frame structure 10, have inwardly facing open portions. The channels 16 are spaced apart by means of an additional channel member 18. Each channel member 16 comprises a bottom 20, a short side 22 and a long side 24 having an inwardly turned portion 25 as will later appear. The channel 18 comprises a bottom 28 and a pair of sides 39, 32 having inturned hook shaped ends 34 and 36 respectively, for a purpose later to appear.
A conveyor slat 38 having inturned sides 4-0 is provided with a channel shaped bracket 42 having a pin 44 carrying rollers 46 and 48, all as described in the co- 3,124,239 Patented Mar. 10, 1964 pending application referred to above. The slats are interconnected to form an endless belt, and the main roller 46 rides on the flange 24, while the roller 48 rides on the flange 22 on the return flight.
The channel 18 with its inturned flanges 34 and 36 forms a means for attaching accessories to the frame. An example is the legs 56, 52. Other accessories such as conveyor switches, and brackets for dividers may be attached to the channels 18 by the means now to be described. A nut 54 having grooves 56, 58 adapted to engage the flanges 34 and 36 respectively is inserted in the channel 13 and held against the flanges 34, 36 in a desired location by means of a spring so bearing against the nut 54 and the bottom 23 of the channel 18. A leg 5-1 having a suitable hole therein is placed over the nut and is clamped to the channel by means of a bolt 62 threaded into the nut 54. Other legs or accessories may be clamped to the frame at any desired location by means of nuts such as 54 and bolts such as 62.
Having now described my invention, I desire it to be understood that modifications may be made within the skill of the art and the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A conveyor frame comprising a supporting means, a pair of laterally spaced allochirally arranged longitudinally extending frame members mounted on said supporting means, each frame member comprising a pair of substantially parallel spaced apart channel members constituting upper and lower track members for the upper and lower reaches of an endless conveyor, each channel member comprising a bottom, a short side and a long side, and wherein the long side includes a lip turned inwardly at an angle in the direction of the short side, each of said laterally spaced pairs of channel members having the openings facing one another, and each channel member of a pair fixedly engaging a third channel member having its opening facin in the opposite direction and wherein the third channel member comprises a bottom and sides, said sides having flanges and said flanges being inturned toward said bottom.
2. The structure as defined in claim 1 wherein the supporting means includes means for attaching leg members to said third channel, said means comprising a nut engaging the inturned flanges and a bolt passing through an opening in the leg and cooperating with said nut.
3. The structure as defined in claim 2, including a spring urging said nut against said inturned flanges.
