NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANCIS M. SWARTZ, OF JAOKSONTOVN, OHIO.
SHEEP-STOCK.
EEPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 312,403, dated February 17, 1885.
Application filed June 2, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. SWARTZ,
' a citizen of the United States, residing at Jacksontown, in the county of Licking and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Sheep-Stocks, of which the following is a description.
This invention relates so that class of devices which are used as stocks in which to hold sheep for tagging and similar purposes. It is very common for sheep to get burrs and other excrescences entangled in their Wool, and it is necessary that these should be removed before shearing. It is also necessary in cases of foot-rot and other diseases to trim the hoofs of sheep.
The object of this invention is to hold the sheep for all such purposes, as above stated.
To this end the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts forming a sheep stock, hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 is an end View, of my invention.
Arepresents a frame provided with four legs,B,andfourhorns,O. DDaresideboards, hinged at d to the horns. E is a trough hung by straps F to the side boards.
In using this stock the sheep is placed on his back in the trough. His Weight pulls on the straps F, closing the side-boards, D, down upon him, as shown in dotted lines, thus making him hold himself. If he struggles, he will cause the side boards to press closer andcloser down on him, thus insuring his being closely held under all circumstances. A
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the supporting-frame A, having the horns G, of the side boards, D, hinged to the said horns, and the trough E, loosely hung to the inner faces of the side boards, substantially as shown and described, whereby the weight of the sheep Will cause the side boards to close down, for the purpose specified.
FRANCIS M. SW/ARTZ.
