Description
March 3, 1964 1-. CHATJIMIKES 3,122,762
LAST FOR MAKING FOOTWEAR Filed Sept. 11, 1961 FIG. I
FIG. 2
' INVENTOR. THEODORE CHATJIMIKES A TTORNEYS.
3,122,762 LAST FQR MAKKVG FOSTWEAR Theodore Chatjimikes, 14 Rue Theophiie Roussel, Paris, France Filed Sept. 11, 1961, Ser. No. 137,223 3 Claims. (Cl. 12-133) This invention relates to lasts for making footwear and more particularly to lasts having interchangeable toe elements.
The primary object of the invention is to produce footwear of various models from one and the same last.
The novel features that are considered characteristic of the invention are set forth with particularity in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its organization and its method of operation, together with additional objects and advantages thereof, will best be understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures and in which:
FIG. 1 is an exploded elevational view of a last according to the invention showing an enveloping toe element about to be placed on the last;
FIG. 2 is an enlarged, fragmentary vertical section of the last of FIG. 1 with the toe element assembled;
FIG. 3 is a fragmentary plan view of the last with the toe element assembled; and
FIGS. 4 and 5 are views similar to FIG. 3 showing different toe elements.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings there is shown in FIGS. 1-3 a last generally designated by the numeral and having a body portion 11 and a toe portion 12 of reduced cross section separated from the body portion by a shoulder 16.
A hollow toe element 13 shaped to receive the toe portion 12 may be detachably assembled on the last by means of screw 14 inserted upwardly through an opening in toe portion 12 and threadably secured in a threaded socket 15 in the toe element 13.
FIGS. 4 and 5 illustrate different and interchangeable toe elements 13' and 13" respectively afiixed to the last body 11 and effective to provide a last with longer and differently shaped toes.
According to the invention, the interchangeable toe pieces can be of metal, wood or another material such as 3,i22,?52 Federated Mar. 3, 1%64- plastic and if desired may be fixed to the last by more than one screw or by screws disposed in different manner.
The described toe covering element 13 may be very simply removed and replaced by another by merely unthreading the screw and reinserting and threading the screw into a diiferent toe covering element. The toe element is similar to produce, easier to replace, less costly of material and has more support on the last than conventional, sectional lasts.
Although certain specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described, it is obvious that many modifications thereof are possible. The invention, therefore, is not to be restricted except insofar as is necessitated by the prior art and by the spirit of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A last for making footwear comprising a body having a toe portion integral therewith and extending forwardly therefrom, a hollow toe element fitted about said toe portion and covering the same, and assembly means including a detachable fastening element inserted through one of said toe element and said toe portion and cooperating with a complementary fastening element on the other of said toe element and toe portion to permit removal of and replacement of the toe element by another, interchangeable toe element.
2. A last according to claim 1 wherein said toe portion is formed on said body by a portion of reduced section separated from the rest of the body by a shoulder, said toe element fitting over said toe portion and snugly against said shoulder.
3. A last according to claim 1 wherein said detachable assembly means comprises a screw received in a threaded part of said toe element and inserted substantially vertically through the bottom of said toe portion of the body.
