Be it known that I, ZEBULON DAVIS, of Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio,
have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vapor-Burners f'or Heating Purposes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in vapor-burners which are designed for heating purposes; and it consists, first, in a burner having two arms which are connected by means of a web for the flame to strike against; sec- 0nd, in a vapor-burner provided with two as to form a second arm, K.
arms, one or both of which are provided with suitable flanges which extend along the arm, for the purpose of distributing heat to all parts of the burner, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to provide a vapor-burner which is specially designed for heating purposes, and which has its two arms doubled so as to pass directly over the top of the flame, and connected by means of a web, against which the flame catches in such a manner that it is not readily blown out, and in which flanges are placed upon the arms of the burner, so as to conduct the heat evenly to all those parts where the vaporization of the fluid takes place.
The accompanying drawing represents a side elevation of a burner embodying my invention.
B represents the stand-pipe, from the top of which rises the arm or tube K. This arm or tube K extends upward a suitable distance, and is bent at right angles, so as to pass over the top of the flame, and is bent downward, so Through these two'arms the fluid passes on its way to the needle-point, where it is vaporized by the heat. The lower end of that arm, K, which is not connected directly to the top of the stand-pipe forms a support both for the horizontal plugvalve D and the needle-valve H.
cup 0 is made to surround the upper end of the stand-pipe B and the lower part of the needleharrel through which the needle passes.
The drip-.
Upon the stand-pipe B and the needle-barrel is formed the inclined flange S, which conducts the oil to the drip-cup, which oil, in starting the burner, flows down the socket-leg of the burner. The rib runs around the socket and intercepts all flow down the socket below it, and serves to conduct the oil directly into the cup. The plug needle-valve D is used both to regulate the size and force of the flame, to extinguish it, and to fill the drip-cup in starting the burner.
In order to afford a surface for the flame to impinge upon, and thus prevent the flame from being readily pufled or blown out, the two arms K are connected together by means of a web, A, which is preferably cast as'a part of the arms. This web, of any size or form, extends across from onearm to the other, and directly over the top of the flame. The flame clings to this web by frictional contact to such an extent that the flame, when turned down, cannot be easily accidentally extinguished. This web also serves to deflect the flame against the two arms K K, so as to assist in the va porization of the fluid.
In order to conduct the heat evenly to all parts of the burner where the vaporization takes place, suitable flanges or ribs, O, are formed upon the arms K K, and which may project outward at any suitable angle. These flanges become heated by the flame, and then serve to conduct the heat evenly along the upper ends by a suitable pipe or connection,
which pipe and connection form a suitable conduit for the oil or vapor, and which arms are united together by a web which extends across above the top of the flame, substantial] y as shown.
