ARRANGEMENT IN RECEIPT-ISSUING MACHINES FOR THE MARKING OF TICKETS Filed Sept. 15, 1960 INVENTORS 0945 .5 J 6771/7 BY 5 4, a 44%550/1 United States Patent 3,116,685 ARRANGEMENT IN RECEIPT-ISSUING MACHINES FOR THE MARKING 0F TICKETS Nils Evert Johan Stfihl, Stocksund, and Oscar Uno Larsson, Hagersten, Sweden, assignors to AB Almex, Stockholm, Sweden Filed Sept. 13, 1960, Ser. No. 55,781 Claims priority, application Sweden Oct. 1, 1959 3 Claims. (Cl. 101-66) The invention according to this patent application refers to a method for the marking of time cards, such as weekly or monthly cards for riding by trains, busses or other trafiic means, by means of a receipt-issuing machine, which is so arranged that the elements intended for the issue of receipts are automatically disengaged, when a card is introduced into the machine, in connection with which the elements, when the card upon the marking of the same is removed from the machine, are automatically returned into operative positions to permit of being again utilized optionally either for the printing of receipts or the marking of cards. The arrangement for carrying the method into etfect consists of a scanning member located at the opening intended for the introduction of cards and adapted to be actuated by the cards in consideration, which scanning member is arranged by means of motion-transmitting members to bring a counter roller adapted to be pressed against the receiptissuing roller of the machine out of the operative position, in order thus to prevent the discharge of a receipt at the marking of cards.
The present invention relates to a modified form of embodiment of an arrangement for automatically disconnecting the machine elements intended for the issue of receipts at the marking of cards by means of a receipt-issuing machine according to claims 1, 2 and 3 of the Patent No. 2,945,432. The arrangement is principally distinguished by the feature that the counter pressure roller adapted to be pressed against the receipt-issuing roller of the machine is rotatably mounted on a double-armed lever, which is adapted by the actuation of the machine elements to swing through a certain swinging angle in every working cycle, in connection with which a scanning member adapted to be actuated by a card introduced into the machine is arranged to retain the lever in a certain swinging position in order thus to prevent the counter pressure roller from pressing against the receiptissuing roller at the marking of cards.
An arrangement according to the invention and features characteristic of the same will be described hereinbelow and is illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawing. FIGS. 1 and 20f the drawing are diagrammatic views of the arrangement. FIG. 3 shows the swingable lever and the scanning member actuating the same as combined with the stand of the machine.
In the drawing, 1 designates a plane or approximately plane stand member of the machine, which member is provided with an attachment for journals and the like for the arrangement of elements comprised in the machine, 2 denotes a receipt-issuing roller mounted on a journal 3, and 4 designates a strip actuated by said roller for the printing of receipts and tickets. A double-armed lever 6 is swingably arranged on a journal 5 secured in the stand member 1 in a plane approximately paralleling said stand member. Secured on one end portion of the lever 6 is a journal 7, on which is rotatably mounted a roller 8 adapted to be pressed against the receiptissuing roller 2. The roller 8 is adapted to be pressed against the receipt-issuing roller 2 by means of a spring 9 actuating the lever 6. The lever 6 is provided with an arm 10 directed angularly to a longitudinally direction ice thereof, an antifriction roller 11 being mounted on the end portion of said arm 10. 14 denotes a cam adapted to be rotated by means of a shaft 13, said cam being arranged when rotated to actuate the roller 11 in order thus to swing the lever 6 into a swinging position'so adapted that the counter pressure roller 8 is brought into an inoperative position away from the receipt-issuing roller 2. The cam 14 is so combined with the manually or mechanically operated elements of the machine that the cam is caused to be rotated one revolution for every working cycle, besides which the cam is arranged to come to rest in a position to exert pressure against the antifriction roller 11 to swing the lever 6 through a certain swinging angle in order thus to bring the counter pressure roller 8 away from the operative position against the receipt-issuing roller 2.
15 designates a scanning member, which is rigidly connected to an axle 16 and a hook 17. The scanning member 15 and the hook 17 are swingably arranged on the stand member 1 by means of the axle 16. The housing 18 of the machine is provided with an opening 19 for the introduction of a card 20 for the purpose of marking the latter. Arranged immediately inside the opening 19 in the housing 18 is a screen 21, against the lower side of which screen the scanning member 15 is adapted to bear in the inoperative swinging position. 22 designates a spring combined with the hook 17 and the scanning member 15, said spring being arranged to swing the scanning member against the lower side of the screen 21.
Receipts to tickets printed on the strip 4 and issued by the roller 2 are severed by means of a knife 23 a conventional type. 24 denotes a typewriter ribbon arranged in a manner known per se, and 25 designates a control strip.
Receipts or tickets are printed from the lower side on the strip 4 by means of a printing means known per se and not shown in the drawing.
In the marking of a card 20 in the machine, the same is introduced, as shown in FIG. 1, through the opening 19 in the housing of the machine, said card then actuates the scanning member 15 and swings the same and the hook 17 rigidly connected with the member. Hereby the hook 17 is brought into such a position above the free end portion 26 of the lever 6 that the hook prevents the lever from swinging at the marking of the card. In the marking of a card, the counter pressure roller 8 will thus be prevented from pressing the receipt strip 4 against the issuing roller 2, which makes the latter inoperative and the receipt strip becomes stationary. In the marking of the card, the latter is located between the stationary receipt strip 4, and the typewriter ribbon 24, the printing hammers operating against the lower side of the card being then adapted with the receipt strip as a webbing, but without this being provided with any print whatsoever, to bring about the intended print or marking both on the card and on the control strip as Well.
FIG. 2 shows the counter pressure roller 8 in the operative position against the receipt-issuing roller 2 in the printing of tickets and receipts.
