CAP HAVING A SERIES OF COMB TEETH FOR A RAZOR Filed May 1. 1961 Fig. 1
lA/VEA/TOQ United States Patent 3,116,550 CAP HAVING A SERIES OF COMB TEETH FOR A RAZOR Mariano De-Paoli, 25 Rue de Rebevocl, Paris, France Filed May 1, 1961, Ser. No. 106,819 Claims priority, application France Apr. 30, 1960 4 Claims. (Cl. 30-34) The present invention relates to dry razors in which the cutting head comprises a movable part with a longitudinal reciprocating movement relative to the fixed part, and relates more particularly to the caps forming shearing-comb guards which cover the cutting heads of these razors.
The present invention has for its object a cap or guard of the above mentioned type, which improves notably the efficiency of the cutting head, which it covers.
Although the invention can be applied to cutting heads of various kinds, it presents a special eificiency with the cutting head already described in the inventors patent application S.N. 633,469 filed on January 10, 1957, now US. Patent 3,037,280.
According to the invention, the cap made preferably from a plastic material is provided with, in the vicinity of the inside edge, nearest to the said cutting head, a series of teeth, separated by notches in such a way as to facilitate the penetration of the bristles into the shearing zone of the cutting head.
It is advantageous in the majority of cases to give the teeth, thus created in the inside edge of the cap, an angle perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cutting head in such a way that when the razor is moved over the skin surface to be shaved, the bristles to be cut are guided into the notches situated between these teeth and so are placed in the shearing zone in an advantageous position facilitating their cutting.
The invention will now be described with reference to a particular example in no way restricting, in which the cutting head of the razor is the one described in the patent application S.N. 633,469 filed on January 10, 1957 of the applicant now US. Patent 3,037,280.
This example is illustrated by the two annexed designs which show:
FIG. 1 an elevated View of a cap-like guard according to the invention.
FIG. 2 a perpendicular sectional view of the longitudinal axis of the cap-like guard.
The cap-like guard according to the invention can be made preferably from a plastic material, as for example from high impact polystyrene, from polyethylene.
This cap-like guard 1 is attached, by all known means onto the casing 2, as shown in FIG. 1 by dotted lines: one of the simplest and most efficient methods being to utilize the elasticity of the part of the cap-like guard in the vicinity of the lower edge 3.
According to the invention, the upper edge 4 of the caplike guard 1 shows along its two longitudinal sides a series of teeth 5 separated by notches 6. These teeth, comporting no sharp edges which risk cutting the skin, are by pref- 3,116,550 Patented Jan. 7, 1964 erence, rounded ofi at the ends and are slightly bent at these ends so that they are as close as possible to the cutting head which they cover.
The notches 6 are of a depth sufficient to allow the penetration of the bristles without, however, the teeth 5 becoming too fragile at the ends.
This is therefore the realization of a cap-like guard increasing the efficiency of the razors cut, and moreover, which is simple and economically manufactured.
What I claim is:
l. Cap-like guard for and normally forming part of a dry razor with alternating movement, said cap being normally disposed very near to the cutting head of the razor and being provided, in the vicinity of the inside edge nearest to the cutting head and at the level of the cutting head, with a series of teeth separated by notches and disposed in planes substantially parallel to the alternating movement whereby the penetration of the bristles into the shearing zone of the cutting head is facilitated.
2. Cap according to the claim 1 in which the teeth of the cap have a direction, perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the cutting head.
3. A cap-like guard for an electric razor normally disposed to cover the cutting head of such razor, said caplike guard being provided with an aperture, said aperture accommodating therein the cutting head and being defined by approximately rectangular edge portions including longitudinal edge portions, said longitudinal edge portions each having a row of teeth at the level of the cutting head, said teeth being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and the plane of the aperture, and the teeth being separated by notches whereby the penetration of hairs into the cutting zone of the cutting head is facilitated.
4. A cap like shearing-comb guard for an electric razor normally disposed to cover the cutting head of such razor, said cap-like guard including side walls and being provided with an aperture, said aperture being of such size as to accommodate therein the cutting head and being defined by approximately rectangular edge portions including longitudinal edge portions, said longitudinal edge portions each having a row of teeth at the level of the cutting head, said teeth being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the aperture and disposed approximately within the plane of the side walls, the teeth being separated by notches whereby the penetration of hairs into the cutting zone of the cutting head is facilitated, and the teeth being rounded off and bent at the ends thereof so as to be as close as possible to the cutting head covered thereby.
