Description

SPACER FOR A SHAVING SYSTEM FOR WET SHAVING, AS WELL AS RAZOR PROVIDED WITH THE SPACER DESCRIPTION:
Technical filed of the invention
The invention relates to a spacer for a shaving system for wet shaving.
The invention also relates to a shaving system for wet shaving comprising at least one razor blade, together with a razor blade holder and a handle connected therewith, said razor blade holder is provided with a skin contact side which, during use, is pressed against the skin and is moved along the skin, which skin contact side is provided with an opening in which at least one razor blade is present, the cutting edge of said razor blade is at a distance of the skin contact side and extends at right angles to the direction of movement.
Background of the invention
Such a shaving system is generally known. The razor blade holder of this known shaving system has a further skin contact side at right angles to the skin contact side, which further skin contact side is provided with a further opening in which a further razor blade is present. This further razor blade is for trimming a beard (i.e., cutting of beard hairs), wherein the razor blade holder has to be moved in the direction of hair growth along the skin, in contrast to completely shave off the beard hairs wherein the razor blade holder with the skin contact side is moved along the skin in a direction opposite to the direction of hair growth.
Summary of the invention An object of the invention is to provide a spacer for a shaving system of the type described in the preamble with which a beard can be trimmed better than with the known shaving system. For this purpose, the spacer according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a frame which can be snapped on the razor blade holder, as well as a number of spacing bodies attached to the frame and at a distance from each other with openings there between, in the presence of the spacer on the razor blade holder said spacing bodies being in contact with the skin contact side, and during use, said spacing bodies being between the skin contacting side and the skin and thereby increase the distance of the cutting edge of the at least one razor blade to the skin.
When trimming of a beard when the spacer is used, the shaving system has to be moved in over the skin in the direction of hair growth just as in the shaving.
Preferably, the spacing bodies are formed by rods which are parallel to each other and in the presence of the spacer on the razor blade holder extend at right angles to the cutting edge of the at least one razor blade and are parallel to the skin contact side.
An embodiment of the spacer according to the invention is characterized in that the spacing bodies at least on the parts facing towards each other are provided with protruding ridges which are at a distance from each other and extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rods. These ridges push the beard upright (i.e., perpendicular to the skin) so that they can be trimmed better.
To be able to bend the beard hairs better the ribs are preferably also present on the side of the spacing bodies which during use, is in contact with the skin.
A further embodiment of the spacer according to the invention is characterized in that the ridges are provided with a front side which during the movement along the skin come into contact with the beard hairs and bend these hairs to a position at right angles to the skin, whereby there is a relatively sharp angle between the rods and the front side of the ridges. Because of this sharp angle the beard hairs cannot slip sideways from the ridges so that they can be mover better.
Preferably, also between the back of the ridges and the bars there is a relatively sharp angle so that the spacer is symmetrical and is always clicked in a proper position on the razor blade holder.
The shaving system according to the invention is characterized in that it is provided with the spacer according to the invention.
An embodiment of the shaving system according to the invention is characterized in that the frame of the spacer has the same shape as the perimeter of the razor blade holder to be able to be snapped firmly on the razor holder.
Brief description of the drawings Below, the invention will be further elucidated on the basis of an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawings of the shaving system with the spacer according to the invention. In these drawings:
Figure 1 shows an embodiment of the shaving system according to the invention in perspective;
Figure 2 shows the detached spacer of the shaving system shown in
Figure 1;
Figure 3 shows parts of the shaving system shown in Figure 1, during use, in side view;
Figure 4 shows parts of the shaving system shown in Figure 1, during use, in plan view;
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the spacer;
Figure 6 shows the spacer seen on a short side;
Figure 7 shows the spacer in bottom view;
Figure 8 illustrates the spacer in a side view; and
Figure 9 shows the spacer in plan view.
Detailed description of the drawings In Figure 1, an embodiment of the shaving system according to the invention is shown in perspective. The shaving system 1 has a razor blade holder 3 and a handle 5 connected therewith. The razor blade holder 3 is provided with a skin contact face 7 which during use is pressed against the skin and is moved along the skin. The skin contact side 7 is provided with an opening 8 in which there are three blade members 9, which extend at right angles to the direction of movement. The shaving system 1 also has a removable spacer 11.
In Figure 2, the spacer is displayed separately. The spacer 11 has a frame 13 with which the spacer can be snapped onto the razor blade holder. Furthermore, the spacer has a number of distance bodies 15 attached to the frame and at a distance from each other with openings 17 there between. These spacing bodies 15 are formed by rods which are parallel to each other and at right angles to the cutting edges of the razor blades 9 and extend parallel to the skin contact side 7 (see Figure 1). The frame 13 has the same shape as the perimeter of the razor blade holder to be able to be snapped firmly to the razor blade holder, in this embodiment, the frame has the shape of an elongated rectangle with rounded corners. The rods extend between the two longitudinal sides 13a, 13b of the frame 13 and are attached with their ends fastened to these longitudinal sides. The spacing bodies IS are provided with protruding ridges 19 at a distance from each other, which ridges extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rods. These ridges 19 are present on the side 15a of the spacer bodies facing the skin during use, and on the portions lSb of the spacing bodies facing to each other.
In order to clarify the operation of the spacer, relevant parts of the razor during use are shown in Figs 3 and 4 in side view and plan view, respectively. The distance bodies IS are with the lower side 15c in contact with the skin contact side 7 of the razor blade holder 3 of the shaving system. During shaving, the spacing bodies 15 are between the skin contact side 7 of the razor holder and the skin 21 so that they increase the distance of the cutting edge 10 of the blade 9 to the skin 21. The ridges 19 are provided with a front side 19a which during the movement along the skin 21 (direction of movement is indicated with arrow 23) come into contact with the beard hairs 25, 27, 29, and bend these to a position right on the skin (position of beard hair 29). Between the rods and the front side 19a of the ribs a relatively sharp angle 31 is present in order to be able to take along the beard hairs so that these do not slip off the ridges sideways. Between the rear side 19b of the ridges and of the rods there is also a relatively sharp angle 33 so that the spacer is symmetrical.
Beard hairs grow down into the position shown by beard hair 25. Those beard hairs 27 which come into contact with the front side 19a of the ridges 19 are gradually curved to the position represented by beard hair 29. Upon further movement over the skin 21 of the razor blade holder 3 the beard hair 29 will slide off of the ridge 19, but before they get the chance to bend back to the original position (as indicated by beard hair 25) they will be cut by the razor blade 9 .
In Figures 5 and 6, in which the spacer is illustrated in perspective view, and seen on a short side, respectively, it is clearly seen that the spacing bodies 15 extend beyond the frame 13 and with bent ends 16a and 16b are in contact with the outwardly facing sides of the longitudinal sides 13a, 13b of the frame.
By way of illustration in Figures 7, 8 and 9 the spacer is shown in bottom view, side view and top view, respectively. The bottom 15c of the spacing bodies is flat and free of protrusions, as shown in Figure 7. In Figure 8, it is clearly visible that the ridges 19 are present on the sides 15b facing each other and on the upper side 15a of the rods. Also, it is to be clearly seen in these Figures that the spacing bodies 15 are present at a small distance from each other in order to realize that as much as possible beard hairs come into contact with the ridges in order to increase the shaving efficiency.
Although the present invention is elucidated above on the basis of the given drawings, it should be noted that this invention is not limited whatsoever to the embodiments shown in the drawings. The invention also extends to all embodiments deviating from the embodiments shown in the drawings within the context defined by the claims.
