((31. 4159) The present invention relates to an improved hair washing, :shampooing, and rinsing sink and a specially constructed reclining couch or lounge, which is expressly designed and appropriately adapted so that it may be 115321 with maximum efliciency in combination with said s An object of the invention is to provide desirable and acceptably suitable facilities which lend themselves to practical use in a hair dressing and styling establishment in a manner which will be of assistance to the attendant and of comfort and convenience for the customer.

Briefly summarized the sink comprises a stationary tub which is supported from a wall or equivalent vertical support in a horizontal position and at a suitable elevation. The tub is of appropriate capacity and depth, has hot and cold water supply and mixing spigots, drain, soil pipe and a trap connection between the soil pipe and drain. The users reclining couch is characterized by an appropriate leg-supported frame, elongated gently inclined cushion means atop said frame and wherein the end portion of the cushion means adjacent the sink end is not only properly sloped but is disposed at the precise height necessary to cooperate with the associated front wall of the sink.

The sink is unique in that the upper portion of the front wall is provided with an outstanding shelf having upstanding flanges at its respective transverse ends and provided across the lengthwise edge with a straight-across head, said thus flanged shelf constituting a drainboard and coacting with the bead in providing an eificient head and neck rest for the occupant of the couch.

The couch is novel in that it is provided with a waterproofed cushion of requisite length and suitable shape to accommodate the occupant. The structure embodies leg frames made up of separably connected component parts and wherein the legs themselves are joined to lengthwise supporting rails in a manner to facilitate setting up the couch in the first instance and subsequently dismantling it for space-saving storage, transportation and other handling purposes whenever necessary or desired.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

FIGURE 1 is a view in perspective showing the overall ready-to-use assemblage characterized by the shampoo couch and special purpose sink at the cooperating end of the couch;

FIGURE 2 is a central longitudinal view in section and elevation taken on the plane of the section line 2-2 of FIGURE 1;

FIGURE 3 is a cross-section on the section line 33 of FIGURE 1 looking in the direction of the arrows; and

FIGURE 4 is an exaggerated detail view in section and elevation illustrating the specific construction of a foot at the bottom of one leg of the couch frame.

The fact that FIG. 1 illustrates the all-inclusive readyto-use shampooing couch and sink combination suggests initial reference thereto. The numeral 6 designates a studio or room floor and 8 a vertical room wall. The special-purpose :shampooing washing and rinsing sink is designated as an entity by the numeral 10 and the com- 3,110,039 Patented Nov. 12, 1963 plemental or companion couch by the numeral 12. Referring now to FIGS. 1 and 2 conjointly it will be evident that the sink is of a relatively deep type of requisite material and capacity and may be, and perhaps could be, designated as a stationary tub. At the right in the drawings the rear vertical wall 14 is provided with a top flange 16 joined with a vertical apron flange 118 which is bolted or otherwise secured to the surface of the wall. The transverse end walls are denoted at 20 and are provided at upper forward end portions with gradually narrowing outstanding extensions constituting vertical flanges 22 and which border the transverse ends of the elongated rearwardly and downwardly sloping shelf 24 which is formed integral with and projects outwandly beyond the upper end of the front wall 26, and which in conjunction with the end flanges provides an appropriately pitched drain board. Across the longitudinal edge a tubular bead 28 is mounted and'it extends from one flange 22 to the other. This construction provides a rigid drain-board construction and also a suitable head and neckrest. It is believed that the functions and purposes of this improvement is clearly illustrated in phantom lines in FIG. 2. The bottom wall is provided with an appropriate drain 3i operatively connected with a trap-equipped conduit 32 which is communicatively connected with a soil pipe or other disposal means embodied in the Wall structure (not detailed). The usual water supply pipes 34 are provided and are joined to a common mixing head or fixture 36 at the upper end and which fixture is disposed above the flange l6 and provided with the control valve or handle 38. An appropriate nipple is provided at 40 to accommodate one end of an attachable and detachable hose 4-2 equipped with a spray nozzle 44 which serves in an obvious manner when washing, shampooing and rinsing the customers hair.

There are at least two end-to-end fixed panels each inclined in the same general direction as the end panel, that is, the panel 48 which is adjacent to and cooperable with the front wall 26 of the sink. The panels are provided on their underneath side with longitudinal spaced opposed tubular aluminum or equivalent rails designated generally at 50 and screwed or otherwise bolted or fastened in place as at 52. 54 and 56 are apropriately positioned and mounted to conform with the panels 46 an 48. Mounted atop the frame (panels in combination with the aluminum rails) is an appropriate foam rubber or equivalent compressibly resilient pad 58 which is enclosed in a suitable waterproof jacket or covering 60. The leg frames at the respective ends of the frame and which are denoted generally by the numeral 62 are the same in construction and a description of one will suflice for both. The tubular legs 64 have upper ends removably bolted as at 66 to end portions of the rails. An appropriate brace 68 is positoned between the lower portions of the legs and bolted in place. The

70 and 72 designate the brace components of the X-shaped braces and which parts are secured together in crossed relation at 74 and have their ends screwed or otherwise fastened to the legs as at 76. The diagonal stays 78 have their upper ends appropriately fastened at 89 to the side rails and have their lower ends screwed or correspondingly fastened at 82 to the legs. The lower end of each leg is of the construction shown in FIG. 4 wherein it will be seen that an appropriate adjustable leveling foot is disclosed. This construction comprises a nut 84 which is fixed in the bottom of the leg to accommodate the screw-threaded shank 86 which shank is provided on its lower end with a ball-shaped head 88 and provided above the head with a tool grip 90. The head 88 pro- 3 vides a ball jointing member which is fitted into a socket 92 provided therefor, said socket having an appropriate wear-resisting lining 94. The socket is formed in an appropriate shiftable floor contacting glide or cup 96. Thus the foot is vertically adjustable and also has a desired universal-type joint connection with the leg.

It has been found that a knockdown table of the type illustrated is desirable compared to a table or couch having folding legs. Made in accordance with the construction illustrated the parts can be assembled in a carton and shipped and then readily erected in the studio or room and once erected and properly adjusted there is rarely any need for attention. By being made of aluminum frame components as is preferred the table or couch is light in weight and easy to handle and utilize. Moreover, the inclined end portion at the right is suitable and desirable for the customer as brought out in the drawings in FIG. 2 and what is also important, the level of the top side of the couch is appropriate in respect to the plane or position of the associated drainboard and head supporting means of the sink. Then, too, While the couch and sink constitute a combination assemblage the fact that they are separate makes it possible for one to have free access to the sink by shoving the couch temporarily out of the way and also removing the couch whenever necessary for floor cleaning and other dutiful needs.

It is submitted that a careful consideration of the description in conjunction with the views of the drawing and the invention as defined in the claims will enable the reader to obtain a clear and comprehensive understanding of the invention, features and advantages and method of use. Under the circumstances a more extended description is regarded as unnecessary.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes Will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. In combination, a vertical wall providing a stationary support, drainage disposal means embodied in said wall, a shampooing sink mounted on and projecting at right angles from said wall, said sink having a receptacle portion, a drain and a trap-equipped conduit affording communication between said drain and said drainage disposal means, manually controllable hot and cold water delivery means for supplying water at a controlled temperature to said receptacle portion, said sink having a front wall provided at an upper end with an outstanding generally horizontal shelf constituting a drainboard, the latter inclining toward said front wall at a satisfactory drainage angle and having a discharge end merging with 4 said front wall and emptying into said receptacle portion, the opposite end of said shelf having a generally horizontal bead and said bead providing, in conjunction with the shelf, a head and neck rest, and a couch complemental to said sink and shelf, said couch having an elongated gently inclined frame extending at right angles to the lengthwise dimension of said bead, said frame being legsupported and embodying an uninterruptedly elongated washable waterproof cushion, that end portion of the cushion which is adjacent said sink having a gently upwardly sloping portion the top end of which is disposed below the aforementioned head and neck rest.

2. For use in a hair dressing and styling establishment having a hair shampooing, washing and rinsing sink with drainage and other associated facilities and having a front wll provided at an upper end with an outstanding shelf provided with upstanding flanges and an associated bead and constituting a drainboard emptying into the sink, a reclining couch for the intended user thereof comprising an elongated portable leg supported frame, said frame being elongated and embodying at least two fixed panels each inclined in the same general direction, said panels being provided on top surfaces thereof with a gently inclined elongated uninterrupted washable waterproof cushioned pad, said pad having a predetermined terminal transverse end portion which is gently upwardly inclined and disposed at a predetermined level in a man ner to cooperatively associate itself in proximity to and below the level of the aforementioned shelf, said frame also embodying lengthwise spaced parallel rails which are removably attached to underneath sides of the respectively cooperating panels and being situated adjacentthe outer lengthwise edges of said panels, and leg frames separably bolted on end portions of said rails.

The structure defined in claim 2 and wherein each leg of each leg frame is hollow and provided with a foot construction, said foot construction comprising a bolt having a shank threaded in a nut fitted in a lower end of the leg, .the lower end of said shank having a tool grip thereon and provided below the tool grip with a ballshaped head, said head fitting into a socket in a shiftable floor-engaging cup, the cup in conjunction with the bolt, nut and leg providing an adjustable foot construction.

Claims

1. IN COMBINATION, A VERTICAL WALL PROVIDING A STATIONARY SUPPORT, DRAINAGE DISPOSAL MEANS EMBODIED IN SAID WALL, A SHAMPOOING SINK MOUNTED ON AND PROJECTING AT RIGHT ANGLES FROM SAID WALL, SAID SINK HAVING A RECEPTACLE PORTION, A DRAIN AND A TRAP-EQUIPPED CONDUIT AFFORDING COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SAID DRAIN AND SAID DRAINAGE DISPOSAL MEANS, MANUALLY CONTROLLABLE HOT AND COLD WATER DELIVERY MEANS FOR SUPPLYING WATER AT A CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE TO SAID RECEPTACLE PORTION, SAID SINK HAVING A FRONT WALL PROVIDED AT AN UPPER END WITH AN OUTSTANDING GENERALLY HORIZONTAL SHELF CONSTITUTING A DRAINBOARD, THE LATTER INCLINING TOWARD SAID FRONT WALL AT A SATISFACTORY DRAINAGE ANGLE AND HAVING A DISCHARGE END MERGING WITH SAID FRONT WALL AND EMPTYING INTO SAID RECEPTACLE PORTION, THE OPPOSITE END OF SAID SHELF HAVING A GENERALLY HORIZONTAL BEAD AND SAID BEAD PROVIDING, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SHELF, A HEAD AND NECK REST, AND A COUCH COMPLEMENTAL TO SAID SINK AND SHELF, SAID COUCH HAVING AN ELONGATED GENTLY INCLINED FRAME EXTENDING AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE LENGTHWISE DIMENSION OF SAID BEAD, SAID FRAME BEING LEGSUPPORTED AND EMBODYING AN UNINTERRUPTEDLY ELONGATED WASHABLE WATERPROOF CUSHION, THAT END PORTION OF THE CUSHION WHICH IS ADJACENT SAID SINK HAVING A GENTLY UPWARDLY SLOPING PORTION THE TOP END OF WHICH IS DISPOSED BELOW THE AFOREMENTIONED HEAD AND NECK REST.
