Description

Oct. 15, 1963 s. E. JONES- CERTIFICATE FILING AND MAILING PIECE Filed Feb. 25, 1961 w T m V M STEPHEN E, don/5S 8M XM finite This invention relates to containers and, more particularly, to containers, envelopes, and filing folders for certificates and the like.
The purpose of this invention is two-fold: one, the development of wider public interest in the purchase of securities through the stimulation of their use as Christmas gifts, wedding gifts, birthday and graduation presents, etc. This may be done through the manufacture and sale to brokers, banks, and other business establishments of handsome folders and inserts designed to facilitate and popularize the use thereof for presenting and storing certificates.
The second purpose of the invention involves the development of better company-stockholder and companyemployee relationships by increasing the interest and participation in both the stockholders and employees in the purchase of securities of the particular company. This is done by conveying along with such folders or on the inserts associated therewith company sponsored communications, messages, advertising matter, or the like and, also, by printing or stamping such printed matter thereon prior to the delivery or transmittal of such securities to the owner-stockholder or owner-employee.
More specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide an improved folder for transmitting and storing security certificates.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved folder which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture, and simple and efiicient to use.
With the above and other objects in view, the present invention consists of the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the form, size, proportions, and minor details of construction Without departing from the spirit thereof or from the scope of the appended claim.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a view of a folder with a certificate therein according to the invention; and
FIG. 2 shows the folder in folded position with the certificate therein.
Now with more particular reference to the drawing, a folder 11 is shown having a front face sheet 12 and a back sheet 13 connected together along a scored line 14. The folder 11 may have clipped corners '15 to prevent dog-earing and to improve the appearance thereof. The intermediate part of the front sheet 12 may be relieved or notched at 16 to provide more exposed surface and to give a more complete view of an indexing tab 17.
The folder 11 may be of suitable dimensions, for example, approximately 8 /2" x 12", and should be constructed of fairly attractive material such as a high quality heavy paper or the like. An oblong or rectangular shaped window 18 is cut in the front face of the folder and is preferably made approximately two to two and one-half inches wide by five to six inches long and centered between the right and left margins of the folder. It will preferably be disposed slightly closer to the top of the sheet 12 than the bottom.
An insert sheet 19 will be made smaller in area than the front and back sheets and preferably approximately six inches by eight inches inside and made of lighter material. It should, however, be made of non-transparent material. The insert sheet 19 has a rectangular window grates atent 20 formed therein nearer a top edge 21 than a bottom edge 22. This horizontal window may be approximately three-fourth inch wide by four inches long and will be fairly well centered between the side edges of the insert.
Along about one-half inch of the left and right edges of the insert sheet 19, gummed tapes 2'3 and 24 will be placed. The tapes 23 and 24 may be gummed with a pressure sensitive adhesive material on one side so that they can be stuck to the cover sheet 12 at their sides 25 and 26 at 29 and 28, respectively. The tapes 23 and 24 will extend beyond the outer edges of the insert sheet '19. The gummed tapes may have the name of the donee or addressee and the address of that person without disclosing anything else printed thereon. These gummed tapes will preferably not disclose the name of the company whose share is enclosed.
The tapes could also have stamped thereon appropriate seasonal or other style messages or they might be any suitable gummed stickers. For example, any of the messages Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Best Wishes on Your Wedding Day, Congratulations on Your Graduation, etc. could be printed thereon.
In order to use the device, the certificate 27 will be placed face up on a suitable table or the like and centered with the lower edge thereof in juxtaposition to the scored line 14. The insert sheet 19 will then be placed above the certificate 27 and moved around on it to bring the window 20 so that the name of the owner of the certificate imprinted on the certificate itself will show through the window 20. Thus, the name of the donee will be visible through the window 20. The certificate 27 and the sheet 19 will then be secured in position by means of the gummed tapes 23 and 24 attaching them as shown. Thus, a single pair of stickers will hold them in place. A greeting sticker 30 will then be put in place and the folder may then be closed and, when closed, the window 20 will be visible through the Window 18. The folder may then be inserted in a suitable mailing envelope having a transparent window with the name appearing through the windows 18 and 20 and being likewise visible through the transparent window in the mailing envelope.
The above assembly forms an attractive gift package and also serves as a convenient storage device or filing folder.
The foregoing specification sets forth the invention in its preferred practical forms but the structure shown is capable of modification within a range of equivalents without departing from the invention which is to be understood is broadly novel as is commensurate with the appended claim.
The embodiments of the invention in which an exclusive propenty or privilege is claimed are defined as follows:
A folder comprising a front and a. back sheet made of relatively heavy material connected together along a scored line, a large window opening in said front sheet adjacent the center thereof, an insert sheet disposed between said front and back sheets when they are in closed position, said folder being adapted to receive a stock certificate or the like between said insert sheet and said back sheet, said insert sheet having a small window therein, said insert sheet being substantially smaller than the front and back of said folder so that it can be moved laterally and vertically in said folder to bring said small window in said insert sheet into position to overlie a name on said certificate adjacent the center thereof, said large window opening in said front sheet being of substantially greater area than said small window in said insert sheet whereby said insert window will underlie said front sheet large window opening when moved to any of a plurality of positions, and two spaced pressure sensitive tapes, each said tape having a first half of the adhesive r a 3 4% side thereof attached to said front sheet adjacent said References Cited in the file of this patent scored line, one part of the second half of each said tape UNITED STATES PATENTS being attached to said insert sheet at its outer end, an- 7 other part of each said tape being adapted to be attached 1 git? to said certificate whereby said certificate is held in a 5 2304517 White 1942 specific position relative to said insert sheet and said front 2967657 Kushne; Jan 1961 sheet with a specific part thereof showing through said u small Window in said insert sheet and said large Window FOREIGN PATENTS opening in said front sheet. 347,386 France Mar. 6, 1905
