This invention relates to separable fastener stringers, Wherin the scoops are fixed to one surface only of the Stringer tapes, producing what I term 1a one-sided fastener, wherein scoops of coupled stringers become invisible when viewing the fastener from the other surface of the coupled stringers.
More particularly, the invention deals with separable fasteners of the character described, where-in the scoops of the stringers are provided one with a hook member and the other with a socket conforming .to atleast part of the contour of the hook member.
Still more particularly, the invention deals with la fastener of the character described, wherein the scoops are formed in pairs on each Stringer and, still further, wherein markings are provided on the scoops of one Stringer :different from other markings provided on the scoops of the other stningers, so as to ldistinguish one Stringer from the other Stringer in production assemblage of the stringers.
The novel features of the invention Will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which: Y

Considering FIGS. l land 2 of the drawing, 10 and 11 represent two small portions of two Stringerl tapes making up a separable fastener. Each tape has an inner bead 12, 13 and an outer bead 14, l5, the term outer being used with respect to the abutting edge portions 16 and 17. For purposes of description, the part of the Stringer tapes between 14, 16, and 117 may be defined `as shelf portions 18 and '19, respectively.
Suitably xed to' the beaded surfaces fof the tapes 10 and 11 are pairs of scoops 2d, 21 and, in considering the structure of FIG. l, as well as the structure shown in FIGS. 3 and 5, if these scoops in the several views are formed as molded for die cast members, attachment to the i surfaces o-f the Stringer tapes and the beads is by virtue of the extension lof the molded or cast material into the interstices of the braid which establishes positive anchonage of the scoops to the str-ingers. At this time, it is also pointed out where reference is made to pairs of scoops, :as in FIGS. l and 3, it will be understood that, n molding :or casting the scoops, they may be cast in ICC pairs or in multiples of pairs, depending upon the capacity of the machine employed in producing the fastener.
The pairs of scoops Ztl may be said to comprise a male scoop 22 land a female scoop 23; whereas, the pair of scoops l21 have corresponding male and female scoops -24 and 25, respectively. The coupling end portion of the male scoops have what might be termed hook-shaped coupling members 26 land `27, respectively; whereas, the female scoops include sockets 28 and 29, respectively, for reception of the members 27, 26 in coupling the pairs of scoops of the twoV stringers. Inner surfaces of the members 26 and 27 are rounded, yas seen at 30 and 31, to receive rounded or bulbous heads 32,133 on the female parts 23, 25, respectively. The male pants 22 land 24 include wear shelves 34 and `35, over which the heads 32, 33 respectively pass, these shelves extending tothe edges lo, 17 of the tapes fand `overlying the shelf portions 18 and 19, respectively. Corresponding wear shelvesare provided` in Ithe recess yor Vsocket portions 2S and 29, as indicated at 36 and 37. Both of the wear shelves overlie the shelf edge portions of the tapes tand part of the outer beads 14 :and 15, as will clearly appear from a considenation of FIG. 2 of the drawing. At this time, it is also pointed tout that portions of the members 26, 27 and heads 32, 33 cverlie these outer beads.
It will be noted that the pair of scoops 22., 23 have, on the exposed surface of the mounting end portions thereof, rectangular recesses 3S; whereas, the pairs of scoops 24, 25 have similar round recesses 29. Tlhe purpose of this -is to definitely distinguish what may be termed" a righthandstringer from a lefthand Stringer to facilitate production assemblage of the stringers. It will-alsov be noted that outer .surfaces of the members 26, 27 and heads 32, 3.3 have relieved portions, as indicated lat 4i), for fa.
cilitating coupling :and uncoupling of the scoops of the two Stringers.
It will clearly appear vfrom a considenation of FIG. 2 of the drawing that the rounded corner portions of the members 26, 27, 32, 33 facilitate movement of these portions over the wear shelves, FIG. 2 illustrating themem ber |27 in section and the head 32 insection.
In FIGS. 3 and 4 of the drawing, I have shown a modi-lied arrangement of pairs of scoops 41, 42 arranged on Stringer tapes 10', 11', Similar to the tapes lll and 11, and having beads 12,', 13', 14', 15', again, similar to the beads of the tapes lilJ and 1.11.
The pairs of scoops 41 comprise scoops 43 and 44 having hook- shaped coupling members 45, 46 at the outer coupling end portions of the scoops. The pairs of scoops 42. comprise scoops 47 and 48 also having, attheir coupling end portions, hook-shaped coupling members 49 and Sil. The scoops 43, 44 have, inwardly of the members 45, 46, female sockets 51 and 52 and the scoops 47 and 48 have similar sockets 53 and 54, the latter receiving the members 45 and 46, respectively; whereas, the members 49 and Sil engage the sockets'51' and 52, as clearly illustrated in FIG. 3 of the drawing. `Itwill beapparent that all of the coupling members conform generally to the contour of the sockets. v
The coupling members and `sockets defined are arranged at the outer exposed surface of the scoops and over wear shelves 55, 56 on the scoops 43, 44 and 57 and 5S on the scoops 47 and 48, these wear shelves being generally `similar to the wear shelves employed in the fastener Stringer shown in FIGS. l and 2. The mounting end portion of all of the scoops have, as an extension tothe female sockets, recesses 59, 60, 61 and 62 for free movement of the coupling members in the sockets in the operation of coupling and, uncoupling the scoops of the stringers. It will also be apparent that the coupling members or heads extend into opposed Stringers to a point overlying part of the outer beads 14', 1S.
At this time, it is pointed out that, in the diagrammatic illustrations of FIGS. l, 3 andr5, no attempt has been made to accurately indicate the contour of the scoops in order to simplify the present illustration. It will appear, however, from a consideration of the sectional views that the walls of the scoops are tapered for free engagement of the parts yand for simplifying formation thereof, particularly when the scoops are molded or die` cast. Furthermore, the Sectioning used in FIGS. 2, 4,
6 and 7 `are notto be considered limitations of the type of material employed, but rather in illustrating one adaptation'and use of the invention. f
With the structure-shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, it will appear thatthe pair of scoops 41 have their coupling members and female sockets facing each other; whereas,V
invisible from the outer surface. However, in some uses of separable .fasteners of .this type and kind, this nonscooped surface of the stringers may be arranged adjacent the body or member, in conjunction with which the fastener is used. .This would be particularly the case in bodyy garments where it would be desirable to have the relatively smooth surface of the stringers bear upon the body of the wearer.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A one-sided separable Ifastener comprising a pair of Stringer tapes, each Stringer having -bead means projecting on one surface thereof, scoops iixed to said surface of the stringers, the scoop of one YStringer having a projecting coupling end portion including a hook-Shaped coupling member, scoops of a companion stringerhaving at its coupling end portion a socket generally conforming to theV contour of and adapted lto receive the hookshaped coupling mem-berof scoops on said iirSt named Stringer, the bead means off said stringers being disposed inwardlyrof adjacent edges of coupled stringers to form on the tapes of the stringers projecting shelves, over which with the `.pairs of scoops 42, 'the coupling members and sockets are in opposed directions to each other to oper- Y atively engage the -pairs of scoops 41. With this construction, it will be apparent that two distinct lefthand and' righthand stringers are employed in producing a sepa- Vrable fastener and the contour of the respective pairs of t are employed, each having a single bead 65, 66 and each of the scoops 67 on the Stringer 63 are of identical construction and the scoops 68 on the Stringer 64 are also of identical construction, but kdiffering from the scoops I' 67. . as at 75,7'merely to compensate for Vthe contour of the yfronti thesections, FIGS. v2, 4, 6 land`7, that adjacent f. edges of the tapes will abut when the stringers are coupled together, -so that the scoops become invisible in viewing the string'es from the lower sides of the coupled stringers, as illustrated in Said Iv-iews on the drawing.
VThese lower Sides are usually the outer surfaces of the coupled stringers, so that scoops-of the stringers are V -strlngen where they j oin the Vattaching Vportion tending in opposed directions to each other, and the scoops in both pairs including Socket portions receiving the coupling members .of the Scoops of the opposed j 8. A one-sided separable fastener as defined in claim 7, wherein the coupling and portions of the scoops on each Stringer incl-udc wear shelves, upon which the cou-Y plin-g members of the scoops of opposed stringers move in coupling and uncoupling the stringers.
9. A one-Sided separableffastener as defined in claim 8, wherein said wear Shelves overlie at least part of the-bead means of each Stringer.
v l0. A one-sided separable fastener as defined in claim I l, wherein the hook-shaped coupling members are on the scoops of one Stringer', the scoops of the companion Stringer including sockets receiving the hook-Shaped members of the scoops of the iirst Stringer when said stringersV arel coupled.

A one-sided separable yfastener as dened in claim 10, wherein the coupling end pontions of the scoops on Iboth stringers `extend the full 'depth of the scoops, and outer pontions of the coupling ends of 130th scoops nclude rounded portions for `free passage ofthe scoops of one Stringer over the tape of a companion Stringer.
12. A one-sided separable fastener as .defined in claim 1-1, wherein said `rounded portions operatively engage the ibead means of a companion Stringer.

Claims (1)
1. A ONE-SIDED SEPARABLE FASTENER COMPRISING A PAIR OF STRINGER TAPES, EACH STRINGER HAVING BEAD MEANS PROJECTING ON ONE SURFACE THEREOF, SCOOPS FIXED TO SAID SURFACE OF THE STRINGERS, THE SCOOP OF ONE STRINGER HAVING A PROJECTING COUPLING END PORTION INCLUDING A HOOK-SHAPED COUPLING MEMBER, SCOOPS OF A COMPANION STRINGER HAVING AT ITS COUPLING END PORTION A SOCKET GENERALLY CONFORMING TO THE CONTOUR OF AND ADAPTED TO RECEIVE THE HOOKSHAPED COUPLING MEMBER OF SCOOPS ON SAID FIRST NAMED STRINGER, THE BEAD MEANS OF SAID STRINGERS BEING DISPOSED INWARDLY OF ADJACENT EDGES OF COUPLED STRINGERS TO FORM ON THE TAPES OF THE STRINGERS PROJECTING SHELVES, OVER WHICH THE COUPLING END PORTIONS OF THE SCOOPS OF BOTH STRINGERS OVERLIE WHEN SAID STRINGERS ARE COUPLED TOGETHER, AND THE COUPLING END PORTIONS OF THE SCOOPS OF BOTH STRINGERS ALSO OVERLIE PART OF THE BEAD MEANS ON OPPOSED STRINGERS.
