Description
July 16, 1963 M. J. A. DUPUIS 3,
CATAMENIAL PAD Filed Feb. 10, 1961 FIG I.
INVENTOR Marie J. A Dupuis United States Patent 3,097,648 CATAMENIAL PAD Marie J. A. Dupuis, West Hartford, Conn. (P.O. Box 297, Farmington, Conn.) Fiied Feb. 10, 1961, Ser. No. 88,463 1 Claim. (Cl. 128-290) The present invention relates to sanitary devices in general and in particular to a sanitary disposable catamem'al pad.
An object of the present invention is to provide an inexpensive catamenial pad which is efficient in absorbing action, one comfortable to wear, and one requiring no belt or other support.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a catamenial pad which permits wearing of non-bulky clothing Without the chance of its being apparent exteriorly of the clothing.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a catamenial pad which is simple in structure, one easily and with facility applied and removed, and one which is inconspicuous under ordinary circumstances.
These and other objects of the invention will be apparent from the following description when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawing, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the pad according to the present invention, and
FIGURE 2 is a plan view of the pad before folding.
With reference to the drawing the pad of the present invention is formed from a sheet of soft cloth such as cheesecloth which has been washed to remove any stifiening agent.
Preferably, the sheet 10 (FIGURE 2) is out along two adjacent right angled edges 12 and 14 with the edge 14 longer than the edge .12. The third edge 16 is preferably provided with at least three scalloped parts as at .18, 20 and 22 in FIGURE 2.
ice
The sheet 10 is folded on itself, for use, so that the junction of the edges 12 and 14 forms the narrow end of the pad as at 10 in FIGURE 1 and the scalloped edge parts 18, 20 and 22 form the tapered large end of the pad as at 10" in FIGURE 1.
In use, the tapered end 10 is inserted by hand between the rectal muscles of the user and the main portion is drawn forward for insertion between the labia minor with the tapered larger end covering the clitoris. It will be safely retained in this position during all normal activities of the person using the same and will be completely invisible through the usual non-bulky dress worn by the person.
While only a single embodiment of the present invention has been shown and described, other embodiments are contemplated and numerous changes and modifications may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit thereof as set forth in the following claim.
What is claimed is:
A method for forming a catamenial pad from a sheet of flexible cloth which comprises the steps of cutting said sheet to a size to be worn by a person to form a flat sheet section having two straight edges intersecting at right angles and an arcuately curved edge connecting together the ends of said straight edges remote from said intersection; and folding said sheet section upon itself at the intersection of the straight edges to form said pad in such manner that the intersection of said adjacent edges forms a narrow end of the pad and said curved edge forms a tapered broad end of the pad.
