Description

rrnn rarns Parent rrren,
HENRY O. HERRIGK, OF MONROE, \VISOONSIN.
DETERGENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.
309,622, dated December 23, 188 1.
Application filed October 15, 1884. (No specimens.)
roe, in the county of Green and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Detergents; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to detergents, and has for its object to produce a cheap and effective liquidtorcleaningandpolishingnickel-plating or plated ware, glass, and similar articles.
My cleaning composition consists of the fol lowing ingredients, combined in proportions stated, viz: ammonia, one and onehalf pint; kerosene. three pints; extract of lemon, two and one-half ounces; citronilla-oil, two ounces; borax, two ounces; whiting, (pulverized) half pound. The borax is dissolved in two quarts of hot rainwater.
For making one gallon of the liquid theproportions above stated are employed, and the ingredients are mixed together in any way with the dissolved borax.
In using the liquid it should be well shaken up in the bottle and then applied with a sponge or flannel cloth. After standing a moment or two the surface must be rubbed off with a clean dry cloth.
In cleaning badly rusted or corroded surfaces the liquid should be applied a second or third time, as may be found necessary.
In cleaning silver the liquid may be diluted with water and applied with a sponge.
I am aware that several of the herein-named ingredients have been used in detergent compounds; but I am not aware that all of the ingredients of my composition, in the proportions stated, have been used together.
The effectiveness of the compound is espeeially enhanced by the presence of the citronilla oil, which acts to draw out stains, to loosen and remove rust-stains from marble, to neutralize the smell of the ammonia, and to retain the brightness of the surface-polish for a longer period.
I claim The herein-described detergent liquid, con sisting of citron illaoil, bora'x, pulverized whiting, ammonia, kerosene, and extract of lemon, compounded in the proportions specified.
In testimony whereof I atlix my signature in presence ottwo witnesses.
HENRY C. HERRICK.
