RATTNER HOLLOW CONTAINER RECORD KEEPER AND ADVERTISING DEVICE 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Filed Jan. 12, 1960 n mA WE 1c n A N O E Y LB full... .u 3m TF3 ATTORNEYS Unie The present invention relates generally to record keeping and advertising devices and systems, and more particularly to tubular devices which may be safely and conveniently Isupported supported by the shoulder strap of a camera case or camera, and which may be readily fabricated from the carton or box in which rolls of film are normally sold, where the term tubular is intended to define hollow members of any cross section, or number of sides, including cylindrical forms of circular, triangular and square cross-sections.

Rolls of film are sold in paper cartons or boxes, which are normally discarded after ythe rolls of film have been abstracted therefrom. These cartons normally have irnprinted thereon the name of the company which manufactured the film, on at least one of its panels.

In accordance with the present invention, I imprint a schedule on a film carton, in which may be listed a number identifying each film exposure or frame and also the film exposure speed and the lens aperture, which are employed for that particular exposure or frame. The film carton or container is then formed into a hollow tube, in different ways according to several embodiments of the present invention, the schedule and film brand name being exposed on one or more external walls of the tube, and the tube is slipped over the shoulder strap of the camera or camera case of the person taking the exposure.

Thereby, `since the strap extends through the device, the latter cannot be lost or misplaced, and is always conveniently available. The operator of the camera is provided with a convenient device for marking records pertaining yto the operation of his camera, for each exposure in a lroll of film, and the record may be compared with the excellence of the pictures after the latter have been developed. Thereby, the operator of the camera may improve his techniques, by learning to correlate film types with exposure time and aperture.

lIt is, accordingly, a primary object of the present invention to provide a device or system for maintaining records of camera and film performance for Various lens apertures and shutter speeds, the device being in the form of a hollow tube, the term `tube including four-sided vand three-sided boxes, through which extends the shoulder strap of a camera case or camera.

It is a further object of this invention to provide a device which would continually make visible to any observer, the brand name of the film being used, the device being fabricated of the box in which the film roll is sold, and which is formed, according to the invention, in the form of a hollow tube, through which extends the shoulder strap of a camera case or camera.

The above and still further objects, features and advantages 4of the present invention will become apparent upon consideration of the following detailed description of several embodiments of the invention, especially when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring now to the accompanying drawings, the reference numeral 20 denotes a box or container, fabricated of paper from a blank form identified as 21, in FIG- URE 5. The blank form of FIGURE 5 includes four side panels 22, 23, 24, 25, and a tab 27 extending from side 25, which is glued to the back side of the panel 22, in forming a closed tube, as illustrated in FIGURE 2.

Closure of the tube, after a -roll 4of fresh film is inserted, is effected by means of end tabs, generally indicated by numeral 26, and not individually identified. According to the invention, a fresh film roll having been removed from container 20, for insertion into a camera, the end tabs 26 are tucked internally of the tube, as in FIGURE 3, forming a hollow box-like tube. Externally of .the tube, on panels 24, 2S, are provided printed schedules 30, 31 providing a list of exposures or film frames, of which twenty are available in the specific example, and blocked -out spaces for inserting opposite each frame or exposure number, the shutter speed and lens opening at which the frame was exposed.

The four-sided hollow box-like tube of FIGURE 3 may have extending therethrough the shoulder strap 32 of a camera 33 (or a camera case). The shoulder strap 32, taken with the camera 33, forms `a closed loop which retains the four-sided hollow box-like tube 20, and protects the four-sided hollow box-like tube 20 against loss or inadvertent misplacement.

In the system of FIGURE 7 is illustrated a modification of the open ended box of FIGURE 2, identified by the numeral 20a, in which the film brand name and printed schedules 36, 37 are internal, thus requiring no modification of the external appearance of a film roll container as currently used and sold by manufacturers. In forming a three-sided hollow box, according to the invention, the tab 27 is unglued, and the side panels 40, 41, 42, 43, reversely folded so as to expose Ithe imprinted lfilm brand name yand the schedules 36, 37 exteriorly of the tube. The `tab 27 and panel 40 are folded inwardly so that the joining fold of tab 27 and panel 40 nest against the joining fold of panels 42, and 43, ythus forming a three-sided hollow box. The tabs 26 are then tucked inwar-dly into `the three-sided hollow box, locking all sides together to form the hollow lbox of triangular cross section 'as illustrated in FIGURES 1l and 12. FIGURE 9 illustrates the process of folding tab 27 and panel 40 so that the joining fold of tab 27 and panel 40 nests against the joining fold of panels 42 and 43.

3 Some film rolls are sold enclosed in a relatively thick circular cylindrical tube, as 50, FIGURE 12. In such case, a thin paper sheet S1 containing the film brand name and' a .schedule 52 of frames, shutter speeds and lens openings may be secured about the tube 50, or printed thereon, and utilizedas are the four-sidedand three-sided tubes of FIGURES 3 land 10, i.e'., thevshoulderv strap 32 may extend through the tube 50.

While I have described and illustrated several ernbodiments of my invention, it will be' clear that variations ofv the-details of construction which are specifically illus- Itrated-.and described may be resorted to Without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention as dened in the appended claim.

What I claim is:

An equilateral triangular paper tube'formed from a right parallelepiped, said parallelepped having four contiguous side panels of eq'ual lengths and equal Widths, three of said panels having indicia on the interior thereof, end tabs associated inv pairs With each'of said side pianels, another tab contiguous with one of said side panels, and bonded to the side panel most remote from' said lone side panel when the 4tube is a parallelepiped, said end tabs having all the same Widths as said panels, said tabs when folded over being of such size as to form a complete side for said parallelepiped, the triangular `tube having the other of said panels tucked under a pair of said end tabs and in superposition throughout to one of said three panels, said three panels being folded with the indicia bearing faces thereof forming the exterior faces of the triangular tube, all of said end tabs being tucked internally yof said tube in superposition of said panels, said another tab being tucked internally of said tube be tween said one side panel and one of said end tabs.
