TAG.
SECZFICATCI? forming part of Letters Patent No. 3G8,369, dated November 25, 1884.
Application tiled September 16, 1884. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, J. FRED MILLER, a citizen of theUnited States, residing atShelbyville, in thecouuty of Shelby and` State of Illinois, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Tags, of which the following is a speci- Iication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to tags especially designed to denote or indicate the size of the hats in a hat-box, and also the number ot' hats in a box; and the invention consists in the construction and arrangement ci parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in perspective of a tag embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a view ofthe frame and hooks without the paper back. Fig. 3 is a view of the tag made entirely of metal, and Fig. et a vertical sectionalwiew ot' the metal tag.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the frame of the tag, which is struck up from sheet metal, and is provided with a hook, B, for attaching it to the hat-box by engaging the hool; B with an incision made in the hat-box. At its lower end the frame A is provided with an integral linger-piece, G, by which to apply the tag to the box and to remove the tag when a sale from the box has been made. The frame A is also provided with integral inwardly-projecting points D and E, which are passed through incisions in the paper back F,and clinched to secure the paper back in place in the frame A. The size ofthe hat is printed on this paper back F, and a tag for each hat in the box is attached to the box Vhen a sale of a hat has been made, a tag will be removed from the box, the remaining tags still indicating the number of hats in the box and size of each. TWhere this tag is used an inventory of stock can be taken without opening the boxes, as the tags on the outside of the boxes indicate the number ot' hats contained in each hat-box. The finger-piece C is slightly curved outwardly, so that it may readily be taken hold of to remove the tag when necessary. /Vhere the metal tag is used the number is cut out by a die. In other respects the metal tag is similar to the one described above.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The combination, with the frame A, having the hook B, linger-piece C, and inwardly-projecting points D E, of a slitted paper back, F, having the points D E passed through the slits in the paper back F, and clinched to hold said back F in place, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
J. FRED MILLER.
