(Cl. 21540) The present invention refers in general terms to screw caps and closures for bottles and containers and particularly it refers to some and useful improvements to screw caps and washers in the type known as made of plastic, these washers give an article of the indicated class that gives an hermetic closure which is highly practical because there is no need to take out the washer to open the container because the screw cap keep in place the washer in the moment of opening the bottle.
As it is well known the plastic caps for bottles have to have a good guarantee of closure to prevent the leaking of the product during the distribution and for this they have been used by many types of closures that have not given the proper protection or they have been good but at a very high price.
The washer that I have invented is really practical and new clue to the many tests that it has been submitted and it is really cheap because it works like one piece with the screw cap, it can be used several times and it keeps its position in place.
The complete screw cap simply consists in two pieces, one made of polyethylene or any other soft material and the second one made of polypropylene or any other kind of hard material that makes the screw cap. In that cap the washer is sealed completely in the small sized or just as a ring with a 1'' form adjusting to the cap in such a way that the screw caps made of plastic or metal keeps in its place due to the pressure developed against the lateral walls of the screw cap. In the moment that the cap is screwed on the bottle it develops a pressure that force the washer against the walls of the mouth of the bottle or container obtaining that way a perfect seal with constant pressure in the interior walls of the bottle.
The characteristics details of these plastic washer for screw caps of my invention can be seen clearly in the following description and in the drawing that join as an illustration of it, the numbers in that drawing are the same reference number to indicate the parts in the shown figures.

In the FIGURE 2 we see a transversal section seen from elevation of a screw cap with the washer with T form assembled and before being screwed on the bottle.
On FIGURE 3 we see a screw cap the T washer and the neck of the bottle already closed, in that figure we can see all the deformations of the T washer due to the pressure of the screw cap against the mouth of the bottle.
Before entering to describe in a detailed way the utility of this invention I want to express that the drawing illustrates as an example only, one of the preferred forms to put in practice my invention but this does not limit the specific details that I illustrate and described. I could make variations and modifications that the practice shows to be necessary naturally without modifying the principles of this invention.
As it is showing in the enclosed drawing the closure of my invention is formed by a polyethylene washer or any other elastic material 10 with a T form horizontal. This washer has a cylindrical body 11 that makes that the wing 12 keeps separate from the bottom of the cap 15. The wing or foot of the T washer 12 ends in a vertice 13 that makes easy the assembling of the washer 10 in the screw cap 15. This wing 12 is the one that receives the pressure of the bottle 16 and changes its form to give a perfect seal of the screw cap.
On the FIGURE 2 we see the screw cap 15 in section in which there is a washer already assembled the T form 10 the wing 12 is bent to adjust in the end of its vertice 13 to the screw 14, in that way is kept in place after the bottle is closed.
On FIGURE 3 we can see the deformation that the washer of T form 10 experiments due to the pressure of the neck of the bottle 16 by one side and from the other side from the screw cap 15. This deformation maintains the constant pressure in between the two rigid materials 15 and 16 and in this way it stops the leaks of the liquid contained in the bottles of containers.
I claim:
1. The combination with an internally threaded cap for screwing onto the externally threaded neck of a bottle, or like container, of an annular washer for sealing the bottle, said washer being T-shaped in cross section with the T disposed horizontally so that the leg of the T extends outwardly into deformable contact with the threaded interior wall of said cap for retaining the cap and washer assembled, and said washer being subject to further deformation upon threading of the cap onto a bottle by squeezing of the T leg portion of the washer between the rim of the bottle and the cap to distort the head portion of the T of the washer into sealing engagement with the inner surface of the bottle neck.
2. The combination according to claim 1 wherein said cap is formed of a plastic material and said washer is formed of a softer plastic material.
3. A screw cap for threading onto a container having an externally threaded neck comprising an internally threaded cylindrical wall closed at one end by a horizontal cover, an annular washer frictionally held against said cylindrical wall, said washer being T-shaped in cross section with the T disposed horizontally so that the support leg extends outwardly into deformable contact with the threaded interior wall of said cap for retaining the cap and washer assembled, the head of the T portion of the washer being vertically disposed and engaging the said cover when the cap is disengaged from the container but being adapted to distort and turn into sealing engagement with the internal surface of the container neck when the cap is threaded onto the container.

Claims (1)

1. THE COMBINATION WITH AN INTERNALLY THREADED CAP FOR SCREWING ONTO THE EXTERNALLY THREADED NECK OF A BOTTLE, OR LIKE CONTAINER, OF AN ANNULAR WASHER FOR SEALING THE BOTTLE, SAID WASHER BEING T-SHAPED IN CROSS SECTION WITH THE T DISPOSED HORIZONTALLY SO THAT THE LEG OF THE T EXTENDS OUTWARDLY INTO DEFORMABLE CONTACT WITH THE THREADED INTERIOR WALL OF SAID CAP FOR RETAINING THE CAP AND WASHER ASSEMBLED, AND SAID WASHER BEING SUBJECT TO FURTHER DEFORMATION UPON THREADING OF THE CAP ONTO A BOTTLE BY SQUEEZING OF THE T LEG PORTION OF THE WASHER BETWEEN THE RIM OF THE BOTTLE AND THE CAP TO DISTORT THE HEAD PORTION OF THE T OF THE WASHER INTO SEALING ENGAGEMENT WITH THE INNER SURFACE OF THE BOTTLE NECK.
