(Cl. 4-134) This invention relates to a toilet. More particularly, this invention relates to a toilet adapted to be utilized in bombshelters or the like wherein persons may be conned for periods of thirty days or more.

The toilet of the present invention includes a flat planar base made of wood or the like and supported on legs from a floor or other supporting surface. The base is provided with a hole extending therethrough in 4a central portion thereof. A bag made from an impervious plastic material is removably disposed within the hole with the edge portion adjacent the open end of lthe bag being removably clamped to the base. The plastic bags are intended to be disposable. Accordingly, the plastic bags may accommodate solid and liquid excretions and have its open end sealed by means of a string, a piece of tape, or the like.

It is an lobject of the present invention to provide a novel toilet.

It is another object of the present invention to provide a toilet adapted to be utilized with disposable, expendable, impervious plastic bags.

Other -objects will apear hereinafter.

For the purpose of illustrating the invention there is shown in the drawings a form which is presently preferred; it being understood, however, that this invention is not limited to the precise arrangements and instrumentalities shown.

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention.

FIGURE 2 is a sectional view taken along lines 2-2 in FIGURE 1.

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like numerals indicate like elements, there is shown in FIGURE 1 a perspective view .of the toilet designated generally as 10.

The toilet comprises ya at planar base 12 made from a material capable of supporting the weight of a normal person. As illustrated, the base 12 is made from Wood. In actual use, the base 12 will be made from plywood having a thickness of approximately five-eighths of an inch. The base 12 is supported at its corners by

14, 16, 13 and 20. The legs 14-20 have a length sufficient to support the base 12 from the floor or a similar supporting surface by a distance of approximately eighteen inches.

As shown more clearly in FIGURE 2, the base 12 is provided with a hole 22 extending therethrough. An open end impervious plastic bag extends through the hole 22. The bag 24 is preferably made from a translucent or opaque exible plastic material such as polyethylene, polypropylene, Mylar, etc. Mylar is a trademark for a highly durable transparent Water repellent lm of polyethylene terephthalate resin. The bag 24 will be made from such -a plastic material with a thickness which enables the same to be readily flexible and permit the open end of the bag to be selectively tied in a knot. The open end of the bag 24 is preferably flared so that it may overlie the adjacent upper surface of the base 12 around the hole 22.

An annular groove 26 is disposed on the upper surface of the base 12 surrounding the hole 22. The open end of the bag 24 is manipulated so as to extend across the upper surface of the base 12 to a point beyond the periphery of the groove 26. A metal ring 28 which is V-shaped in cross-section clamps the bag 24 in the groove 26 radially inwardly from the free edge 30 of the bag 3,078,470` Patented Feb. 26, 1953 24. 32 and 34 facilitate the removal of the ring 28 when desired. To facilitate handling and ease of use, the ring 28 may be split in half as shown.

The toilet 10 is utilized as follows:

The toilet 10 may be supported on a floor or the like in a room such as a bombshelter. When it is necessary to use the toilet 10, the ring 2S is removed by inserting ones fingers in the

32 and 34 and exerting an upward pressure. Thereafter, a bag 24 is inserted through the hole 22. The open end of the bag 24 is flared out and disposed over the upper surface of the base 12 so that the free edge 30 is radially outwardly of the slot 26. Thereafter, the ring 2S is positioned `as shown in FIGURE 2.

The toilet 10 is now in condition for use. After a person has made use of the toilet 10, the ring 28 is removed as set forth above. Care must be exercised so as to maintain a grip on the portion of the bag 24 adjacent the free edge thereof. Thereafter, the open end of the bag 24 is tied in a knot. Alternatively, a portion of the bag 24 adjacent its open end may be tied by using string, tape, etc. Thereafter, the sealed bag 24 may be deposited in a storage area, thrown out of the `door of the bombshelter, etc.

The waterproof nature of the bag 24 enables the same to accommodate liquid excretion. By sealing the open end of the bag 24, the necessary sanitary precautions are met. Thus, the sealed bags will not attract insects and the odor therefrom will not be offensive.

It will be appreciated that other means such as clipping i or grasping devices may be used in place of ring 28 to removably secure the free edge 30 in place. A removable imperforate flat plate or board 38 is preferably provided to cover the hole 22 and the base 12 so that the device 10 may be utilized as a ltable or desk when not in use. One end of said plate or board 38 may be pivotably secured to the base 12 along a side edge.

Thus, it will be seen that I have provided a novel, simple, inexpensive toilet which may be utilized in a variety of places such as bombshelters, camps, boats, etc. The toilet 10 is portable and lightweight. Accordingly, the sam-e may be readily moved as desired.

The present invention m-ay be embodied in other spe cie forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof and, accordingly, reference should be made to the appended claims, rather than to the foregoing specification as indicating the scope of the invention.

I claim:

1. A toilet comprising a base mounted on supporting means, a hole extending through said base, a disposable bag impervious to solid and liquid excrement extending through said hole, said bag having an open end overlying a top surface of said base adjacent said hole, means selec-tively and releasably securing said open end of said bag to said top surface of said base, said means including an annular groove in said top surface of said base surrounding said hole, a removable ring for clamping said open end of said bag in said groove, finger slots in said top surface of said base, sai-d finger slots extending from said groove in opposite directions.

2. A toilet in accordance with claim 1 wherein said means includes a discontinuous ring.

Claims

1. A TOILET COMPRISING A BASE MOUNTED ON SUPPORTING MEANS, A HOLE EXTENDING THROUGH SAID BASE, A DISPOSABLE BAG IMPERVIOUS TO SOLID AND LIQUID EXCREMENT EXTENDING THROUGH SAID HOLE, SAID BAG HAVING AN OPEN END OVERLYING A TOP SURFACE OF SAID BASE ADJACENT SAID HOLE, MEANS SELECTIVELY AND RELEASABLY SECURING SAID OPEN END OF SAID BAG TO SAID TOP SURFACE OF SAID BASE, SAID MEANS INCLUDING AN ANNULAR GROOVE IN SAID TOP SURFACE OF SAID BASE SURROUNDING SAID HOLE, A REMOVABLE RING FOR CLAMPING SAID OPEN END OF SAID BAG IN SAID GROOVE, FINGER SLOTS IN SAID TOP SURFACE OF SAID BASE, SAID FINGER SLOTS EXTENDING FROM SAID GROOVE IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS.
