Ztl-95) The present invention relates to concr-ete form brackets for attachment to a beam on the outside of a bridge, and 4to forms including such brackets.
When a bridge is to have concrete, marginal overhangs, the construction of suitable forms represents a considerable cost and requires a substantial amount of time. It is the principal objective of this invention to enable such forms to be made more efficiently and economically.
In accordance with the invention, this general objective is attained by providing brackets each of which is adapted to be bolted to an outside bridge beam and has a sill support provided with marginal keepers. After the brackets have been bolted to their beam, a sill is put in place on each support. loists are arranged in parallel on the sills, and the form oor, commonly plywood, is laid thereon. Any adjustment of the form is effected by wedges positioned, as required, between each sill and its bracket support.
In the accompanying drawings, there is shown an illustrative embodiment of the invention from which its several objectives, novel features and advantages will be readily apparent.

FIG. 2 is a section taken along the indicated lines 2-2 of FIG. 1.
As illustrative of the invention, there is shown an outside bridge beam lt) and a laterally projecting concrete overhang generally indicated at 11 whose construction requires a form.
The beam is conventional except, in accordance with the invention, it has a series of spaced pairs of holes through its web. These are located wherever a form bracket is to be located and they receive the bracket attaching bolts 12.
Each bracket has a generally indicated support 13 and a brace 14 joined to the front or outer portion thereof and connected to the rear end thereof by a spacer 15. It is preferred that the support 13 have two members 16 and that these, the brace 14, and spacer 1S be members of right angular section.
The members 16 are so arranged that their portions 16b are vertically disposed and spaced to receive between them adjacent their front or outer ends, one end of the portion 14a of the brace 14 whose other portion 14b is cut away to permit such assembly and the welding together of these portions. The rear end of the brace 14 has welded thereto one end of the portion 14a of the spacer 15 whose other end is disposed between and welded to the other end of the portions 16 to the proximate end of the spacer portion 15b is suitably cut away.
The inner ends of the members 16 have a plate 17 welded thereto. The plate 17 is provided with holes through which the attaching bolts 12 extend. When a bracket is thus bolted in place, the plate 17 and the inner ICC end of the brace 14 bear against the web of the beam 10.
Each of the members 16 has a spacer 18 at its outer end and spacers 19 located along the outer edge. These spacers constitute each support 13 as a seat for pivotally retaining a suitably dimensioned sill 20 in position. Wedges 21 are usually employed between each support and its sill. Joists 23 are spaced in parallel on the sills 20 and these are covered by a floor 24 of plywood or other suitable material.
Such forms are readily assembled with brackets in accordance with the invention and are as readily dismantled after the form has served its purpose. The fact that the brackets may be made for re-use more than offsets their cost so that the invention not only makes possible the more rapd construction of forms, representing a substantial saving in labor costs, but also a saving in material costs.
What I therefore claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a concrete form for use, in the construction of a bridge overhang, in conjunction with an outside bridge I beam, a plurality of brackets spaced lengthwise of said beam, each bracket including a support and means at one end of said support connected to the web of said beam and extending approximately at right angles thereto with its supporting surface spaced below the outer top flange of said I beam, and upwardly disposed keepers, one located on ea-ch side of said support, a plurality of sills, one for each support and extending lengthwise thereof between the keepers, the height of each sill being greater than the height of said keepers, a plurality of spaced parallel joists, each supported by a plurality of sills and disposed at right angles thereto, and a oor supported by said joists with a margin in contact with the undersurface of the outer top flange of said beam, each of said means including bolts extending through said web and located adjacent -to the sill-supporting surface of its support and exposed on opposite sides thereof, and a series of vertically adjustable means carried by each support and spaced lengthwise thereof in engagement wtih the undersurfaee of the sill for that bracket.
2. In a concrete form for use, in the construction of a bridge overhang, in conjunction with an outside bridge I beam, a plurality of brackets spaced lengthwise of said beam, each bracket including a support and means at one end of said support connected to the web of said beam and extending approximately at right angles thereto with its supporting surface below the outer top flange of said I beam, and two series of upwardly disposed longitudinally spaced keepers, each series being located along an appropriate one of the sides of said support, the keepers of said series being spaced from each other and from the ends of said support, a plurality of sills, one for each support and extending lengthwise thereof between the two series of keepers, the height of each sill being greater than the height of said keepers, a plurality of spaced parallel joists, each supported by a plurality of sills and disposed at right angles thereto, a floor supported by said joists with a margin in contact with the undersurface of the outer top flange of said beam, and a plurality of longitudinally spaced, wedge means disposed between each support and the sill therefor, said wedge means being spaced lengthwise from said keepers and protruding beyond the side edges of the associated support, and each 3 of said connecting means including bolts extending through said web and located adjacent to the supporting surface of said supports and exposed on opposite sides thereof.
3. The form of claim 2 in which there is an upwardly disposed keeper at the outer end of each Isupport and Wedge means are disposed between each end keeper and the proximate end of the corresponding sill.

Claims (1)

1. IN A CONCRETE FORM FOR USE, IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BRIDGE OVERHANG, IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN OUTSIDE BRIDGE I BEAM, A PLURALITY OF BRACKETS SPACED LENGTHWISE OF SAID BEAM, EACH BRACKET INCLUDING A SUPPORT AND MEANS AT ONE END OF SAID SUPPORT CONNECTED TO THE WEB OF SAID BEAM AND EXTENDING APPROXIMATELY AT RIGHT ANGLES THERETO WITH ITS SUPPORTING SURFACE SPACED BELOW THE OUTER TOP FLANGE OF SAID I BEAM, AND UPWARDLY DISPOSED KEEPERS, ONE LOCATED ON EACH SIDE OF SAID SUPPORT, A PLURALITY OF SILLS, ONE FOR EACH SUPPORT AND EXTENDING LENGTHWISE THEREOF BETWEEN THE KEEPERS, THE HEIGHT OF EACH SILL BEING GREATER THAN THE HEIGHT OF SAID KEEPERS, A PLURALITY OF SPACED PARALLEL JOISTS, EACH SUPPORTED BY A PLURALITY OF SILLS AND DISPOSED AT RIGHT ANGLES THERETO, AND A FLOOR SUPPORTED BY SAID JOISTS WITH A MARGIN IN CONTACT WITH THE UNDERSURFACE OF THE OUTER TOP FLANGE OF SAID BEAM, EACH OF SAID MEANS INCLUDING BOLTS EXTENDING THROUGH SAID WEB AND LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE SILL-SUPPORTING SURFACE OF ITS SUPPORT AND EXPOSED ON OPPOSITE SIDES THEREOF, AND A SERIES OF VERTICALLY ADJUSTABLE MEANS CARRIED BY EACH SUPPORT AND SPACED LENGTHWISE THEREOF IN ENGAGEMENT WITH THE UNDERSURFACE OF THE SILL FOR THAT BRACKET.
