SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,621, dated November 4:, 1884.

Application filed June 4, 1884.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN O. BEEK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pleasant Plains, in the county of Sangamon and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

My invention relates to plows; and it consists in making the heel of the landside thereof adjustable and reversible. In the ordinary plow the heel end of the landside wears away rapidly, requiring replacing and repairing of the worn part. This is a great inconvenience, inasmuch as it usually requires a separation of the landsidc, mold-board, and sometimes colter, to enable the workmen to make the necessary repairs. In the use of my device any farmer, with a wrench, can remove the ad- 20 justable piece upon the heel and turn it over or change it end for end easily and quickly.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective View of an ordinary form of plow provided with my improved landside. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the landside detached. Fig. 3 is a transverse section through the two heel-plates and connectingbolt.

G is the reversible heel-plate, adapted to lie in the recess F and against the face of the heel-plate F.

G G represent countersunk openings in the sides of the reversible plate G, for the reception of the heads of the bolts H. By countersinking the bolt-openings in the plate G on both sides, the bolt-head can be drawn in flush with the face of said plate, whichever side of said plate may be placed outward. The plate G is constructed of a thickness sufficient to fit within the recess F so as to have its outward face flush with the landside F. When the heel of the plate G becomes badly worn, it may be unbolted from the heel-plate F and turned end for end. After both ends of the plate G on one side have been worn down by being used on the heel, said plate may be turned over and the opposite ends of the reverse side presented to the landside until each in turn is worn away. served that the plate G is adapted to present both of its ends on both sides to the heel of the landside until each of the heels thus presented is worn away.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a landside-plow, the combination, with the recessed landside, of the reversible heelplate having apertures countersunk on opposite sides, and adapted to be secured in the recess, with either side out or either end to the rear, as and for the purposes specified.
