Description

J. R. HARE.
REFRIGERATOR BASKET.
No. 307,299.- Patented Oct. 28, 1884.'
QM & Li7 Z NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN R. HARE, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
REFRIGERATOR-BASKET.
.SLPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 307,299, dated October 28, 1884.
Application tiled September 25, 1884. (No model.)
T 0 ztZZ whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, Joan E; HARE, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Refrigerator-Baskets, 6f which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in that class of refrigerator-baskets in which the walls thereof consist of a wickerwork outer casing, a lining of tin-plate, sheetzinc, or galvanized plate-iron, and a layer of felt or other non heatconducting material placed between the metal and the wicker-work.
In baskets constructed as above briefly described the felt is a very good nonheat-condoctor as long as it is kept in adry condition; but as soon as it becomes wet its non 11eat-conducting properties are greatly impaired, and the value of the basket is in consequence much reduced. Further, the alternate wetting and drying of the felt causes the same to decay,
and it becomes offensive. Now, as it is practically impos'siblein the ordinary use of a basket to prevent it from getting wet on the outside, my invention has for its object the prevention of moisture passing through the wicker-work casing to the felt; and to this end it consists in placing between the wickerwork and the felt a bag of oiled muslin, paper, or other waterproofflexible material, as hereinafter described.
The drawing forming a part hereof is a sec tional view of the improved refrigerator-has ket.
In the said drawing, A is the open wicker- Work casing; B,,the metallic lining, and G the felt filling. D is the ice-receptacle. E is the bag of oiled paper or muslin situated between the felt and the wicker-work casing.
I do not limit myself to any peculiar kind of wicker-work casing or to any particular description of waterproof bag, provided the same is flexible and capable of being easily applied to the basket.
I claim as my invention' Ina refrigeratorbasket constructed as described, a water-proof bag placed between the felt filling and the wicker-work casing, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
