To all whom it mag concern.-

Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. BEERY, of Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and Improved Bai1-0hair, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved rail-chair which forms a bearing for the ends of the rails and holds the ends of the rails together. i

The invention consists in a rail-chair formed of sections, each provided with a base plate projecting from the inner surface, and which sections are also each provided with a pin pro jecting from the inner surface, the said pins passing into apertures in the rails held at thei ends between the two sections.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of my improved rail chair, showing the manner in which it is applied. Fig. 2 is an inside perspective view of one section of the chair. ou tside perspective view of the other section.

The chair is formed of two side sections, A and B, which are placed against the opposite sides of the rail, each section A and B being provided with a base plate or plates projecting from the inner surface of the section at the bottom edge, and each base-plate having a ledge or rib, O, projecting frointhe upper surface at the outer edge of the plate. The sec tion A has but one base-plate, A, at the middle of its bottom edge, and the section B has two base-plates, B Bone at each end of the bottom edge. Each section or plate A or B is provided with a stud or pin, D, projecting from the inner surface of the plate or section, the said studs or pins being arranged near the opposite ends of the plates or sections. The sections or plates are curved, so that their upper edges will fit against the under side of Fig. -3 is an the rail-head, and at the connections of the sections and their base-plates pockets are formed for the edges of the bases of the rails. One section is held on the end of one rail, and the other section on the end of the other rail, the sections being held on the rails by the pins f or studs D, which pass into apertures in the rail. The ends of the rails are then brought together, and the rails are placed on the ground and the sections spiked down on the sleepers.

At the joint both rails rest on the base-plate A, and a short distance from the joint each rail rests upon one of the base-plates B. The pins D prevent the rails from traveling in the direction of their length. The ledges or ridges 0 rest against the edge of the base of the rail opposite the edges resting against the inner surface of the section or plate A or B.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A rail-chair formed of two plates or sections adapted to be placed against the oppo' site sides of the rails, with their upper edges resting against the under side of the head of the rail, each section being provided with an inward]y-projecting base-plate having an upwardly-projecting ledge or ridge at its free edge, substantially as herein shown and described.

2. A rail-chair formed of the two sections A and B, having the base-p1ates A and B, provided with the upwardly-projecting edges or ridges O at the free edges, substantially as herein shown and described.

3. A rail-chair formed of the sections A and B, having the studs D, projecting from the inner surfaces, which sections are provided with the base-plates A B, having ledges C on the free edges, substantially as herein shown and described.
