(til. 35-59) This invention relates to manicuring stands and more particularly to a manicnring stand having means for facili tatirig accurate determination of the appearance of any one of a wide variety of tints on a persons fingernails by superimposing a tinted artificial fingernail over the natural nail; means for coordinating and housing tint containers corresponding to the tint of the artificial nail; means for housing manicnring tools and accessories; and means for displaying fingernail treating products.

Various manicnring stands are shown by the prior art. However, such stands suffer from a number of defects. Illustratively, the prior art manicnring stands do not have means for the accurate determination of the appearance of a tint upon the fingernail; provisions are not made for housing manicuring accessories, nail treatment products or tint containers; or they do not facilitate convenient determination of a desired tint while a second person is having her nails tinted.

A primary object of this invention is the provision of a manicnring stand having a circular platform for housing manicnring accessories and a circular rotatable wheel assembly mounted about the periphery of the platform. The rotatable wheel assembly has means for housing tint containers in a circular pattern substantially concentric therewith and adjacent to corresponding tinted artificial fingernails which are disposed radially about the periphery of the rotatable wheel assembly.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a manicnring stand to accommodate a number of persons during the selection and application of fingernail tints.

Other objects of this invention include the manufacture of a manicuring stand which provides means for: determining the appearance and final shade of a particular tint on a persons fingernail by superimposing a tinted artificial fingernail over the natural fingernail; conveniently correlating the tint container to be employed after determining the suitable tint from the artificial fingernail; facilitating the housing and use of manicuring tools and accessories on the manicnring stand in accessible location during the tinting of a persons nails while others are determining suitabl tints; and means for displaying fingernail treating products.

Still another object of this invention is to provide a device of the aforementioned character which is neat in appearance and highly useful for its intended purpose.

These and other features of the invention contributing satisfaction in use, economy of manufacture and adaptability under various conditions will be more fully understandable from the following description of a preferred embodiment of the invention when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein identical numerals refer to identical parts and in which:

The embodiment of the invention as illustrated in FIGS. 1-4 comprises a base 10 and a hollow upright 12 secured to the base 10. A shaft 16 is secured to the hollow upright 12 by being inserted into the top of hollow upright 12 and non-rotatably secured thereto by pin 14 passing through cooperating openings in upright 12 and shaft 16. Shaft 16 has a handle assembly 20 and an ornamental top iCQ 21 at its upper end. A circular base plate 22 having an opening in the center thereof is mounted horizontally in non-rotatable relationship on shaft 16 by welding 18 or simply by being keyed thereto. A circular platform 26 also having an opening in the center thereof is mounted horizontally on shaft 16 above base plate 22 and maintained in non-rotatable relationship therewith by screws 28, 23 which pass through

A ring assembly 40 has a wheel 44 rotatably mounted in frictional relationship on base plate 22 and sandwiched between base plate 22 and platform 26. Excessive horizontal movement of wheel 44 is prevented by

32, 32. Radial fins 48 extend outwardly from the wheel 44. Mounted upon the inner portion of fins 48 is a series of pockets 46, housing a series of fingernail tint containers such as bottles 67 spaced in a circular pattern concentrical- 1y about the ring assembly 40. The pockets are formed by having cylindrical wall 60, flat horizontal circular disk 62, and outer cylindrical wall 64 and radial dividers 66 cooperatively mounted on radial fins 48. Cylindrical wall 66 is positioned concentrically in spaced relationship to platform wall 39. In the interest of weight reduction the pockets can have openings 68 therein. Also, the pockets can have backing strips 70 in order to add stability to bottles 67 whose cross section is smaller than that of the pockets. A plastic transparent ring 50 having tinted artificial fingernails 52 radially disposed in a circular pattern concentrically about the transparent plastic ring 50, rests on fins 48 and is keyed by fin stud 56 and plastic ring opening 54. The tinted artificial nails 52 can be opaque or translucent and either raised as shown in the drawing or simply fiat fingernail shaped devices, all of which can be adhered or in some other manner fixed to the ring 50. Also, the artificial nail can be an integral part of the transparent plastic ring by tinting specific areas, or using tinted inserts within the ring 50. Since plastic ring 50 is keyed to radial fins 48 and bottles 67, a bottle containing a specific tint can be placed adjacent to the correspondingly tinted artificial fingernail 52.

While a preferred embodiment of the invention has been illustrated in the drawings, it should be understood that the invention is not limited thereto. lllustratively, instead of having an upright 12 the manicnring stand can be supported by legs such as 61, 61 which can be attached to the base plate 22. The combination of base plate 22 and platform 26 can be modified so that the ring assembly is rotatably mounted on the platform 26 by means such as a circular track encompassing the perimeter of the platform 26. The ring assembly 40 may also be rotatably attached to the shaft 16 below the platform. When the base plate is eliminated the platform can be keyed to shaft 16 to prevent rotation. Also, the separate support means including shaft 16 which extends through and above platform 26 can be entirely eliminated so that the bottom portion of platform 26 is self-supporting on a table or shelf and the mounting means of ring assembly 40 can be modified so that the transparent ring 50, pockets 46, and wheel 44, are mounted above the lowest extremity of platform 26. The ring assembly 40 may be modified so that instead of having separate parts such as wheel 44 and transparent ring 50, the entire ring assembly can be homogeneously unitary.

In the operation of the illustrated manicnring stand a customer or number of customers can make a predetermination of the appropriate nail tint by simply rotating the ring assembly 40 and placing their fingers underneath the tinted artificial fingernails 52 so that the artificial nail is b superimposed over the natural nail. The customer can then determine the appearance of the particular tint on her finger. This process is repeated until a desired tint is selected. Since the bottle 67 having the corresponding tint is keyed adjacent to the artificial nail it is convenient for the operator or customer to embark on the actual tinting step. During the selection process While the ring 49 is being rotated a manicurist can be tinting fingernails of other customers and using the manicuring and tinting accessories housed on the non-rotatable platform 26 without interfering with customers selecting a desired tint at predetermined locations about the periphery of the ring assembly 40.

What is claimed is:

l. A manicuring stand comprising an upright having a base at one end, a horizontally disposed circular base plate having an axial opening in the center thereof for reception of the upright, mean to secure the base plate to the upright, a circular platform having an axial opening in the center thereof receiving the upright therethrough and maintained in non-rotatably fixed. spaced relationship above said base plate by means of spacer blocks secured to both the base plate and platform; a ring assembly rotatably mounted between the base plate and platform, said ring assembly having a series of pockets containing bottles of variously colored fingernail tints disposed in a circular pattern about the platform; and a plurality of tinted artificial fingernails disposed radially about the ring perimeter With one of said fingernails adjacent to each bottle; each of said artificial fingernails having a space beneath it for the free introduction of a finger to give the appearance of having the artificial fingernail on the finger, the color of each artificial fingernail adjacent to each bottle corresponding with the color of the fingernail tint contained by the adjacent bottle.

2. The manicuring stand of claim 1 wherein the peripheral portion of said ring assembly consists of a fiat transparent ring keyed to the ring assembly and concentric with said platform, said transparent ring having the tinted artificial fingernails mounted thereon.

Claims

1. A MANICURING STAND COMPRISING AN UPRIGHT HAVING A BASE AT ONE END, A HORIZONTALLY DISPOSED CIRCULAR BASE PLATE HAVING AN AXIAL OPENING IN THE CENTER THEREOF FOR RECEPTION OF THE UPRIGHT, MEANS TO SECURE THE BASE PLATE TO THE UPRIGHT, A CIRCULAR PLATFORM HAVING AN AXIAL OPENING IN THE CENTER THEREOF RECEIVING THE UPRIGHT THERETHROUGH AND MAINTAINED IN NON-ROTATABLY FIXED SPACED RELATIONSHIP ABOVE SAID BASE PLATE BY MEANS OF SPACER BLOCKS SECURED TO BOTH THE BASE PLATE AND PLATFORM; A RING ASSEMBLY ROTATABLY MOUNTED BETWEEN THE BASE PLATE AND PLATFORM, SAID RING ASSEMBLY HAVING A SERIES OF POCKETS CONTAINING BOTTLES OF VARIOUSLY COLORED FINGERNAIL TINTS DISPOSED IN A CIRCULAR PATTERN ABOUT THE PLATFORM; AND A PLURALITY OF TINTED ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAILS DISPOSED RADIALLY ABOUT THE RING PERIMETER WITH ONE OF SAID FINGERNAILS ADJACENT TO EACH BOTTLE; EACH OF SAID ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAILS HAVING A SPACE BENEATH IT FOR THE FREE INTRODUCTION OF A FINGER TO GIVE THE APPEARANCE OF HAVING THE ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAIL ON THE FINGER, THE COLOR OF EACH ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAIL ADJACENT TO EACH BOTTLE CORRESPONDING WITH THE COLOR OF THE FINGERNAIL TINT CONTAINED BY THE ADJACENT BOTTLE.
