The panels 38 and 46, in the initial formation of the blank, are preferably connected along longitudinal perforated or weakened lines 48 and 49 by a temporary panel 50 which retains the alignment of the transverse marginal edge 22 of the panels 20, 24, 26 and 28 during the gluing operation by which the glue flap 30 is joined or connected to the panel 20 to form the sleeve 51. The blank 15 as thus glued can be shipped in fiat condition.
It will be noted that the blank 15 has an opening 52 bounded by a marginal edge 53 of the panel 24, by a marginal edge 54 common to the panels 32, 34, 36 and 38 and by a marginal edge 55 parallel to the edge 54 and common to the panels 40, 42, 44 and 46.
The blank 15 also has a side marginal edge 56 common to the panels 40, 42, 44 and 46 and an end marginal edge 57 common to the panels 38, t and 46.
One of the top cover panels, such as the panel 32, preferably has a lock tab 58 formed therein with a hinge connection 31a along the crease line 31 for engagement, as hereinafter pointed out, with a locking tongue 59 formed on the side wall panel 36 and terminated in the panel 34 offset from the crease line 35.
Referring now more particularly to FIG. 7 of the drawings, the blank 16 there shown preferably includes a side wall panel 60 having a gluing tab 61 hingedly connected thereto along a crease line 62 and hingedly connected along a crease line 63 to an end wall panel 64 which is in turn hingedly connected along a crease line 65 to another side wall panel 66. The side wall panel 66 has hingedly connected thereto along a crease line 67 an end wall panel 68. The side wall panels 60 and 66 have bottom wall panels 69 and 70 hingedly connected thereto along aligned crease lines 71 and the end wall panels 64 and 68 have bottom wall panels 72 and 73 hingedly connected thereto along crease lines 71.
The end wall panels 64 and 68 can have cut-outs 74 to facilitate access to the interior of the receptacle.
The blank 16 with the face of the glue flap 61 joined to the interior of the end wall panel 68 along its free end margin and upon setting up from a flat condition for shipping, after completion of the gluing, provides a suitable tray T.
Referring now more particularly to FIG. 8, the blank 17 there shown for the liner L preferably includes an end panel 76 hingedly connected to a side Wall panel 77 by a crease line 78. The panel 77 has connected thereto along a crease line 79 an end wall panel 30 to which a side wall panel 81 is connected along a crease line 82.
The side wall panel 81 is provided with a glue flap 83 connected thereto along a crease line 84 and being adapted to engage and adhere to the interior face of the end wall panel 76 inwardly from the free edge thereof. The panels 76 and 80 can have cut-outs 85 corresponding to the cut-outs 74.
Referring now to FIG. 9, the blank 13 there shown for the holding band B preferably includes panels 86, 87, 88 and 89 connected by crease lines 90, 91 and 92, the panel 89 having connected thereto along a crease line 93 a glue flap 94 which is adapted to engage and adhere to the inner face of the panel 86 inwardly of the free marginal edge thereof.
The blanks 15, 16, 17 and 18 can be glued on a conventional gluing machine and after gluing can be retained in flat condition for shipping.
After the blanks 15, 16, 17 and 18 have been glued, the tray T can, when it is desired to fill the package, be set up from the glued blank 16 with the bottom wall panels 69 and 70 perpendicular to the side wall panels 60 and 66 and locked and held by the flaps 72 and 73 connected to the end wall panels 64 and 68.
The glued blank is then set up and positioned so that the side wall panels and 26 and the end wall panels 4 24 and 28 are in separated relation to provide the sleeve 51.
The sleeve 51 is then slid downwardly in engagement with the exteriors of the side and end wall panels 60, 66, 64 and 68 of the tray T, and so that the free marginal edge 22 is substantially at the lower extremity of the side wall panels 60 and 66 and the end wall panels 64 and 68 of the tray T.
The side wall panels 36 and 44 are then swung downwardly into engagement with the interiors of the side wall panels 6% and 66 of the tray T and with the bottom wall panels 38 and 46 disposed in engagement with the bottom of the tray T. The liner L is then inserted and retains the bottom wall panels 38 and 46 and the side wall panels 36 and 44 in position.
In this disposition, the top or cover panels 34 and 42 will be substantially horizontally disposed and the top or cover panels 32 and 40 will extend downwardly and inclined with respect thereto, as illustrated in FIG. 4.
After the desired articles or materials to be packed have been placed in the interior of the package and in engagement with the interior of the liner L and the bottom wall panels 38 and 46, the sleeve 51 is then moved upwardly. This movement swings the panels 34 and 42 about the pivotal axes provided by the crease lines 35 and 43 and swings the connected panels 32 and 40 about the pivotal axes provided by the crease lines 31 and 39 to substantially horizontal positions, and with the panels 34 and 42 likewise disposed in substantially horizontal positions and in contact therewith.
The holding band B can then be slid into holding position from either end of the package and will retain the panels 32, 34, 40 and 42 and the sleeve 51 in the positions indicated in FIGS. 2 and 3.
When access is desired to the contents, the band B is removed and the sleeve 51 is moved downwardly by a reverse of the operation previously described. Downward movement of the sleeve 51 causes the top or cover panels 32, 34, 4t] and 42 to be moved to their open positions with the panels 34 and 42 perpendicular to the side walls 60 and 66 of the tray. These panels 34 and 42 are effective for the display of advertising messages.
The receptacle in open condition can be tilted so that either of the edges provided along the crease lines 33 or 41 by engagement with the counter top or shelf (not shown) supports the receptacle in such tilted position.
The engagement of the tab 58 with the tongue 59 aids in retaining the opened condition.
