No. 305,508. Patented Sept, 23, 1884.
INVEN TOR I WITNESSES:
ATTORNEYS...
R. PETERS. "nah-Wm Wllhhbn. D. c.
' Texas, have invented a new andlmproved ofthe box.
board A may be detached from the bottom MATENT OLIVER BULKELEY, OF DEXTER, TEXAS.
BALlNG-BOX.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 305,508, dated September 23, 1884.
Application filed January 29, 1884. (No model.)
T0 0. whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, OLIVER BULKELEY, of Dexter, in the county of Cooke and State of Baling-Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my new and improved baling-box arrangedwith bale cloth and cords ready to receive the cotton or other material to be baled- Fig. 2 is a plan. View showing the box opened out for removing the bale, and Fig. 3 is a detailed sectional elevation showing the method of securing the upright end board, A, to the bottom board, A.
The invention will first be described in' connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Arepresents the bottom This is provided upon its under side with the'fixed cross-pieces or cleats B B, and upon its upper side at one end with the end board A and standards 0 O, which cleats project into the sockets f,n1ade in the bottom board, A, said sockets being beveled downward and outward, and the outer edges of the standards 0 being notched and beveled to correspond, as shown at f, Fig. 3, so that the board, A, and replaced at pleasure. The up per ends of the standards 0 0 project above the upper edge of the end board, A, as shown in Fig. 1, for receiving the holding loops or hands D D, as hereinafter described. The cross-pieces B B reach past the edges of the bottom board, A, and the side boards, E E, of the box are hinged to them by means of the cleats F F and bolts a a. The cleats F F reach above the upper edges of the side boards, E E, so that when the said side boards are raised to vertical position the said loops D D may be placed over the upper ends of the cleats F and over the upper ends of the cleats G G, as shown in Fig. 1, for holding the said side pieces, E E, in vertical position for forming the bale. Hinged to the rear edge of the side board E is the end board G, which is provided with the flange g, and is adapted to be closed when the side boards, E E, are brought to vertical position and locked by the fiangeg and the hooks b b, attached to the side boards, A G.
the bale free to be rolled off the box.
board E, thus making a complete box, as shown in Fig. 1. The flange g prevents side strain on the hooks I).
In using the box the side boards, E E, and end G- will be brought to vertical positions and locked by the loops D and hooks b, as shown in Fig. 1. Then the balecords H will be placed in the box with the ends thereof reaching over the, upper edges of the side boards, E E, as shown, and then the bale-cloth I will be put in the box with the ends thereof reaching over the upper edges of the end The cotton or other material to be baled will then be packed in by tramping it in the 'box, and when full the ends of the cloth I will be brought. over the bale and the whole tied by the cords H H, thus completing the bale, which may be removed from the box by removing the loops D D from the upper ends of the cleats F O and lifting the hooks b, which will permit the side boards, E E, and end board G to open, thus leaving The box will then be set again and the side boards and end board G secured, as before, ready to form another bale. In this manner it will be seen that the box is very convenient and adapted for quick and easy handling, and is cheap, durable, and practical.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In a baling-box, the bottom board, A, having cleats B B, and end board A, and fixed standards 0 O, that reach above the end board A, in combination with the hinged side boards, E E, and end board G, hinged to board E, the boards E E being provided with cleats F, that reach beyond the edges of the boards to receive the loops D, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a baling-box, the end board A and standards 0, held to the bottomA, in combination with the hinged side boards, E E, provided with cleats F, the said standards and cleats being of greater length than the depth of the box, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
