UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
G. ARTHUR IVASHBURN, OF PLAINVILLE, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO ORRIN A. BASSETT, OF SAME PLACE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,879, dated September 9, 1884-.
Application tiled December 29, 1883.
when at rest, and to more firmly secure the knob to the suspending-ears. I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved drawer-pull, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same partly in elevation, and also a sectional view of the drawer-front.
A designates the knob, pivoted to the suspending-ears a a by means of a pin, 12. In order to make a firm and strong connection, I screw the threaded rod 0, Fig. 2, into the end of the knob A, and cover said end with asui able cap or ferrule, (Z. In drilling for the pivotpin I), I drill through the cap d and end of the threaded rod 0, and then pass the pin 1) through the hole in said cap and rod in connecting the knob A to the ears a, as shown. The earsa a, I form on a swivel head or frame, 6, having a hole through it, to receive the outer end of the bolt 13. I form this bolt with the ordinary nut, f, at its inn-er end, and with a head, h, at its outer end. The frame 6 is then slipped on the bolt up against its head h, the hole in said frame being large enough to allow it to turn freely or swivel on the bolt. The flange g is then slipped upon the bolt up against ashoulo 4 The bolt may also be provided, if desired, with thin ridges or wings to prevent it from turning within the drawer-front C. Preferably the ordinary rose, D, will be employed, in 5 which case it is held immovably upon the der, or otherwise secured in proper position.
(No model.)
drawer-front by pressure of the flange g as the bolt is drawn inward by the nut. It will thus be seen that fixing the bolt stationarily within the wood by screwing up the nut does not in the least interfere with the swivel action of the frame 6.
By making the frame to which the pendent knob is secured swivel on the end of a fixed bolt, the knob may be turned to either side. if desired, when grasped by ones hand to pull out the drawer, and when released will drop into a vertical position and present a pleasing effect to the eye. The rose is also seated firmly in place, and is therefore not liable to become loose and scratch or mar the drawer-front.
I am aware that many devices have been before invented to make the knob stand in a pendent position when at rest; but, so far as I know, this has been accomplished only by confining the frame to which the knob is pivoted so that the knob cannot be turned to one side at all. In such a device, if the frame is not set in the proper position when the knob is attached to the drawer, the knob when at rest will stand out of plumb. My pull is more convenient to apply to the drawer, for no attention whatever need be taken of which particular side of the bolt is uppermost when it is placed in the drawer-front.
I am aware that a prior. patent shows a drawer-pull in which a soft-metal knob is cast upon the end of a forked screw, which screw is screwed into the knob proper and pinned to an ear formed on the end of a bolt, and the same is hereby disclaimed.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the fastening-bolt, the swivel-frame loosely mounted thereon, and the pendent knob, secured to said swivel frame, substantially as described, and for the 8 5 purpose specified.
G. ARTHUR \VASHBURN.
